Anime, manga, japanese animation, Japanime or often crazy cartoonified charaters causing havoc in a city that's several decades into the future. Call it what you will, but Anime is now a high rising commercial bomb, it's exploded, and now there's so many different genre's and styles, I feel as though i'm blinded with artists creativity where ever I happen to look.

What I want to know is your views on it? Wether or not you enjoy watching anime and why? If you do, which ones tickle your tantalising taste buds?

I haven't seen a topic about this anywhere around, so I thought I'd start one myself. I'm currently enjoying (re-watching and enjoying over and over again)

Cowboy Bebep, movie and series
Akira (Never gets old)
Hellsing

I have watched, and own many more than those three, and my lsit is always chopping and changing, but those are the three that are touching me up right now.

So, how about you guys?

It's been becoming more popular over the last 5 years. I think The Animatrix blew it up. Target even has a Anime section now.

I'm a Star Blazers fan. 1979 Anime. Old school.

OK, maybe that fucking Pokemon could have something to do with it too.

The first big anime boom was here in Finland roughly 10 years ago. I love Miyazaki to death, I like some other artists, but I'm indifferent to most. I'm even fairly indifferent towards Akira. Haven't seen Ghost In The Shell, but I intend to.

I've loved anime as an art form ever since I first saw Akira when I was in my early teens. Ever since then I've come to adore the fantastic imaginations that are behind alot of the animes over the years. Some of my faves:

My Neighbor totoro and all the other studio ghibli stuff
Perfect blue
The vampire Hunter D stuff
Grave of the fireflies
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Trigun
Battle Angel
They were 11
and more :)

I loved (and own):

Spirited Away
Grave Of The Fireflies

I liked:

Kiki's Delivery Service

I didn't like:

My Neighbor Totoro

I hated:

Perfect Blue

So yea, overall, anime is pretty hit or miss with me.

I love anime. I used to hate it. But now I realize what its done for animation. Anime can show us stuff "real" films can't with a reasonable budget.

Ones in the genre that I've seen that I can recommend:

Metropolis
Akira
Spirited Away
Ghost in the Shell
Princess Mononoke
Cowboy Bepop: The Movie

I've also seen a few from the 80's that I can't name.

The only anime I have ever taken a shine to is Spirited Away and Cowboy Bebop. The first one is a great family film with amazing animation. The latter is perhaps the only good anime series out there. I have seen and loved every episode (I even saw all 26 AND the movie in a one day period with a few friends!!!) The movie is a great supplement to the film, yet it can also stand on its own. Aside from those I am not an anime person. I will definitely watch the movies like Akira, Princess Mononoke and the like one of these days, but as for series, I don't like them. I have seen a bunch of Dragon Ball and I suffered through all of the Evangelion, scratching my head the whole time.

Anime is brilliant, my favourites are:

Akira
Ghost in the shell
Ninja Scroll

If only hollywood would accept animation as a serious way to make blockbusters cheaply.

I can't stand anime and never understood why people go SO crazy about it.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention Perfect Blue, a David Lynch-esque anime, and Ninja Scroll.

Overall I love anime. As long as it's original. A lot of it covers the same material conscestantly. So there are a lot of them that just are blah.

My favoire anime movies:
Vampire Hunter D (original and blood lust)
Princess Mononoke (10/10 in my opinion)
Armitage 3 - Poly Matrix
Animatrix
Akira

:D

Anime- anime is a wonderful genre that can be appreciated as much as any other genre. However anime isn't showing it's true beauty. So many stories and ideas are overdone. There is no creativity anymore, it's shame that there are only a few essential animes.

grave of the fireflies
akira
perfect blue
ghost in the shell

Anime is so boring, I still watch it for the entertainment but I get pissed off so much that I never seen anything new.

Exploded into freaky fanboy status about a year ago when I first saw The End Of Evangelion. I wasn't interested in that show at all until I saw the movie, but it turned everything around heavily. Before that, I had only seen Nightwalker, Blue Seed and of course Dragon Ball/Z/GT (Dragon Ball Z being my favorite anything back then in 5th grade) but I was never too interested.

In the course of the last year, I've seen dozens of series (the last I saw was Cowboy Bebop, which I fell in love with) and movies. Now I'm much more an anime fan than anything else (I never watch any other TV shows, only Buffy and a few exceptions).

ive loved anime ever since seeing Blood: The Last Vampire 4 years ago and that love only grew as i went on to see Akira, Princess Mononoke, Ghost In The Shell (both film and series), X (the series), Neon Genesis Evangelion and many other series and films

i find anime to be much more interesting and creative than any other kind of cartoon (although not always as fun), the characters are generally a hell of a lot better and more developed, the stories are very diverse and develop as the series continues and series pretty much always run until they end

I could go on and on and on...

I like anime in small doses. It can be very creative and original sometimes, but other times confusing and weird.
