LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Kelly Osbourne, daughter of rock star Ozzy Osbourne, has checked into a rehabilitation center to treat an addiction to painkillers, her parents say.

Appearing on CNN's "Larry King Live" Friday (April 2), Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne said they had taken Kelly to facility in Malibu, Calif., earlier in the day after confronting her about the issue.

"She admitted it after a lot of twisting," Sharon Osbourne told King.

The Osbournes, whose MTV reality series has been one of the channel's most popular shows in recent years, said they confronted Kelly after a British tabloid called them for comment about a photo that purported to show the 19-year-old buying drugs.
After denying she had a problem at first, Kelly admitted to abusing painkillers, her parents told King. The family's maid also found a bag of pills in Kelly's bedroom.

Kelly Osbourne's admittance to rehab comes about a year after her younger brother, Jack, checked into a clinic to treat a substance-abuse problem of his own. Jack, now 18, will celebrate a year of sobriety later this month, his mother says. Ozzy Osbourne also has a history of addiction.

Kelly signed to co-star in an ABC drama pilot called "Doing It" earlier this year; it's unclear whether her stint in rehab will affect the show. New episodes of "The Osbournes" are scheduled to begin Tuesday, April 6 on MTV.

I can't imagine that the tabloids would do more than they will anyway if Osbourne's parents didn't go out and talk about it. I suspect that they went on tv for damage control for themselves. Their wacky parenting style has backfired on them and they are a little embarrassed about it. But at least they are famous.

Yes, but you said that they were doing it for PUBLICITY. They're doing it so that the situation can start out calm, instead of a media frenzy.

I mean, the idea that they would use their daughter's drug problem for publicity is disgusting, which I think you have to admit, even if you don't like them. I'm not their biggest fan, but if I tried to help my daughter this way and someone accused me of being an attention whore, I'd be disgusted.

You're right. I was wrong to use the word publicity- public relations would be a better choice of word(s)- damage control for themselves is what I mean. I just think they should've kept quiet about it. Grebdron's made a good point that she (Ozzie's too whacked out to notice) probably hasn't been paying enuf attention. I know they do love their kids but they have let the fame thing take over.

First like it or not she is famous, or as some would say infamous.

Second it was the record company's idea to cash in on success of the Osbournes which lead to both the Osbournes Family Album and to Kelly getting based on the success of "papa don't preach'( which even though I like Kelly and I like the song I still don't she should have covered that Madonna song".

Third, yeah she whines about it and I'd like to qoute from Joblo's review of Season Two "the one in which Kelly “snaps” after the deluge of responsibilities as a singer, ultimately get the better of her (this was a cool show because it provided some insight into the “darker” side of fame—oh, you actually have to work hard too??)", it's tough recording an album or acting is like anything else if you want it to be good you have to work at it, plus this probably the first time that Kelly really had to work at anything.

Fourth, she's not 21, she's 19.


Fifth, painkillers are like any other type of drug you can get hooked on them.


Sixth, I understand that you don't like her, but wanting her to die, don't you think that is just a little bit harse.

I don't understand why you think painkillers are a wimpy drug. Painkillers contain opiates, which just makes it a form of legal Heroin and are highly addictive because your body builds a quick tolerance and you need to keep doubling or tripling your doses and that's where it becomes a deadly habit.

I doubt Kelly was using because "she's begging for attention." That doesn't even make sense. It's most likely the other way around. Most people take drugs to escape the crazy world around them or to just not deal with personal issues. Pop a pill, stop the madness.

Whenever I knew someone that was going into rehab, I was glad they were finally taking the step to fix themselves.

While I don't give a shit about Kelly Osborne in the slightest, it's not good that she's addicted to painkillers...painkillers are some serious shit, as are most other drugs.

As much as I can't stand her, I can not say it's a good thing she is addicted. In my opinion, that's just fucking wrong. Just like with all others, if she's serious about getting clean, then more power to her.

I don't agree to an extent to what you are saying. In the dictionary "wimpy" means weak. How are people who get addicted to drugs not weak? I know it's a condition and problem, but is it not "weak" to get addicted to drugs?

To a certain extent. I do see what your saying though.

With me, I never had a chance to even become weak. I awoke from surgery with a morphine tube in my arm, and a button to push every 10 minutes for more medicine. I was bed ridden for 3 days straight, and all I did for 3 days straight, every 10 minutes, was inject more morphine into my body. 24 hours in a day, 60 minutes in an hour, thats 6 times an hour, which is 144 injections a day. Times that by 3 days straight, before I could even sit up, thats 432 injections of morphine. I was in the hospital for 8 days, and had the morphine drip in me until I was able to get up and walk, which was after the 4th day, so add another day to that total. I was then switched to those glorious pills, which I wolfed down 2 at a time every 2 hours. My surgery was on June 15th, and I was still taking morphine at the end of August. The doctor finally realized (with my help), that I hadnt been in pain that long, I just thought I was because I was addicted to the medicine. I never entered rehab, or anything like that. All that happened was, my doctor prescribed lesser and lesser doses until I was able to get myself off of it. About the beginning of October I was drug free. This was clear back in 1999, and ever since, I've been immune to pain medicine, unless its morphine. This past summer, the muscles in my back atrophyed and I could barely move without experiencing excruciating pain, and I went through a bottle and a half of Maximum Strength Tylenol in 24 hours time. I was taking them by the handfuls, and not one of them worked. Im sure that if, during that time, I had taken Morphine instead of tylenol, I would've became re-addicted, because at that time I was extremely weakened, physically.

As for Kelly, I have no idea how she got addicted. Maybe she was "posing" off of other people who have been addicted and got addicted herself, or maybe she thought she was cool by taking them. In those cases, I dont give 2 fucks about her being addicted because that is stupidity. If it was for something medical related, I understand 100% where she is coming from and actually feel sorry for her because I was in the same boat at one time.

I do, though, still find darchangels general assumption that people who get addicted to painkillers are wimps because its a wimpy drug, offensive. Its not a wimpy drug, it kicks your ass all over the place, and most people who do get addicted arent wimps themselves just for doing so. Some people, (i.e. me) just couldnt help it.

I agree. Pain Killers relieve pain, and with Jackson's surgery I can see how that would happen. But Kelly, just doing it to relieve the pain of being a millionaire is different.

No wonder that thier sister Amy does not want to be involved in the show. I mean yeah the family gets publicity off of it but not exactally the kind of publicity that gets you a good reputation. I mean don't get me wrong I love the Osbournes but this is their second kid that has gone into rehab. So obviously they need to watch out for their kids well being a little better.
