2001 has been a f@cked up year. I mean with all the s#it movies out this year "Valentine" (2/10)
"Jeppers Creppers" (2/10),"Dr.Dollitle 2" (4/10),"Josie and the Pussycats" (3.5/10),"Crocidle Dunnde in Los Angles" (4/10),"A Kinghts Tale" (5/10),"Angel Eyes" (5/10),"Fianl Fantasy:The Spritis Within (5/10)","What's the Worst That Could Happen" (3/10),"The Glass House" (4/10) and "The One (4.5/10). I don't think I've ever seen a year with so many bad flims and there is still a month and a half left to the year. But then there is some really good flims this year "Memento" (10/10)
"Moulin Rouge" (10/10),"Shrek" (10/10),"Blow"
(9.5/10),"Training Day" (9/10),"Rush Hour 2" (9/10),"The Score" (9/10)"Baby Boy" (8.5/10),"From Hell" (8.5/10),"Joy Ride" (8.5/10) and "Snatch" (8.5/10). There are also some big lets downs like "The Others" (7/10),"Jeppers Creepers" (2/10),"The Glass House" and "Valentie" (2/10) if you didn't notice they are all horror flims and they all were let downs. There were some unexpectedly good films like "Bubble Boy" (7/10),"Driven" (6.5/10),"Bones" (7/10) and "X-PAX" (7.5/10). 2001 realsed some good movies w/bad DVDs like "Traffic" (flim 9/10 DVD 6/10),"America's Sweethearts" (flim 8/10 DVD 6/10),"The Pledge" (flim 7/10 DVD 4/10)
and "Memento" (flim 10/10 DVD 5/10). There have been some really good 2001 DVDs "Shrek" (flim 10/10 DVD 9/10),"Snatch" (flim & DVD 9/10),"Blow" (film & DVD 9.5/10) and "Star Wars - Episdoe 1:The Phantom Menace" (flim & DVD 9.5/10). That's my thought on 2001!

No, I don't think 2001 was a good year at all. Yes it wasn't TOTALLY devoid of good movies, but it was probably just as bad as the year 2000. I don't think we've had a good year in movies since '99.

Memento...I think you have some interesting points and I would like to elaborate on it. here is my take on it...by the end of the year this may turn out to be a very good year for movies, at least better than 2000...lets look at what has been very good so far...

A.I. Artificial Intelligence 9/10
Bandits 8/10
Blow 9/10
Bridget Jones' Diary 8/10
The Crimson Rivers 8/10
The Dish 8/10
Enemey at the Gates 9/10
From Hell 9/10
Hannibal 8/10
Heartbreakers 8/10
Hearts in Atlantis 8/10
K-PAX 8/10
Life as a House 8/10
Made 8/10
The Man Who Wasn't There 10/10
Memento 9/10
Mulholland Drive 8/10
The Others 8/10
Pearl Harbor 10/10
Planet of the Apes 8/10
Riding in Cars With Boys 8/10
The Score 8/10
Shrek 9/10
Snatch 8/10
Swordfish 8/10
The Tailor of Panama 8/10

Now thats 26 films that have already come out that I've seen and thought were very good-excellent...This could be added too by many films coming out in the last month and a half...some of these include...

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
Spy Game
Behind Enemy Lines
Oceans 11
The Royal Tenenbaums
Vanilla Sky
Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
The Majestic
Ali
Black Hawk Down
A Beautiful Mind
The Shipping News
(These are the movies I'm most looking forward to)
These are all big hollywood films with great potential and buzz, and this is not including countless indepedent and smaller films that will be surprises...plus this also includes well liked films which I haven't seen yet...Ghost World, Amelie etc.
I think if alot of these films yet to come out turn out to be winners...this year could turn out to be very good indeed, maybe not as good as 1999 but could come close.

Comedy and Horror had it especially bad this year. It wasn't a bad year for sci-fi fans, though ("A.I.," "K-PAX," "Planet of the Apes," "Final Fantasy").

Otherwise, I'd actually say it's the worst year I've ever seen. January-April was especially sorry.

This year's been so bad I've only seen 12 films, 3 of them being artflicks. Even though I liked most of the movies I saw this year, there were hoards of crappy ones I stayed away from. And in a year when an animated movie about an ogre and his silly donkey friend is the 2nd best movie I've seen, then this year must be pretty bad.

Ha Ha. That animated film with the ogre and his silly donkey friend is #5 on my Best list, not to mention the best film of this summer.

The Other

I've only scene three films this year that get at least an 8/10 and up.

The Others - 10/10
Legally Blonde - 8/10
Shrek - 8/10

But I dunno what to think of 2001 just yet, we haven't gotten to the better movies of the year which come out next month.

*sigh* You've gotta wonder about the tastes of people who think movies like Pearl Harbor, Rush Hour 2, Hannibal, Bridge Jones Diary and Planet of the Apes were actually good movies. They all SUCKED.

Joblo seemed to like most of them. I liked the ones that I saw. What does that say about me? NOTHING, except that I like to have some fun at the movies every once in a while.

Bridget Jones' Diary was a very good film. The performances by Renee Zellwegger, Colin Firth and Hugh Grant are excellent.

This year wasn't a great movie year, but it wasn't a bad one either. I'd say it's right down the middle. Any movie year that gives me a movie I'd rate a 10/10 (a rare rating for me) can't be all bad, and this year MEMENTO got a 10/10 from me. There have also been excellent ones like Shrek, Hannibal, The Mexican, Monsters Inc, Hearts in Atlantis, The Others, Training Day and Bridget Jones's Diary.

At the very least, 2001 was a better movie year than 2000. As others have pointed out, it's not as good as 1999, but I still wouldn't say this year was bad for movies.

Well I don't know if "Rush Hour 2" is a 9/10
. I think it's more like an 8/10. "The Others" really wasn't what people say and I dissagreed with them I didn't see what was so good!

Well..*shrug*..that just tells me not to trust Joblo's opinion much. Oh I like to have fun at movies too, but a movie has to have SOME intrinsic value for me to like it. It's still my opinion that 2001 was a crap year for movies...again, not as horrible as 2000, but nowhere near approaching a good year.

When is a movieyear bad? I think that the stories of movies are getting worse but the movieshots and fX are getting better. I don't see a movie to learn anything, I do that enough on college, i just wanna have a good time. And therefore i think 2001 was a good year. Hut 1 thing i don't understand: How can it be possible that Hannibal was a blockbuster??? It's was so BORING!!!! :-P

I myself liked the movie Heist, even though not too many people thought it was that great. It had one great actor from 3 generations.

Whoops, I meant "The Score" with Brando, DeNiro, and Norton. Guess it wasn't THAT memorable if I couldn't think of the correct name.
