Just saw the trailer for this on ET. It looks pretty awsome!
As I'm sure you all know, it's a remake of the Frank Sinatra film with Denzel Washington in Sinatra's role and also stars Meryl Streep and the underrated Liev Schrieber. I can't wait to see it!

It could be good, but I doubt it. The original was a true classic. It's a great example of a movie that didn't need to be remade, nor should it have been.
Also, does anyone else think the trailer gave away too much? I mean, it basically tells you
SPOILERS
that Shaw is supposed to assassinate someone, and that Shaw's mother is in on it, which, in the original, you don't find out till the end.
END SPOILERS
Also, Shaw as the politician? WTF? He's supposed to be the stepson of the politician. This is probably gonna be a horrible remake.

I am sooooo NOT there. I saw the original for the first time today (easy 9/10...truly magnificent), and just watched the trailer. It looks like an unnecessary remake. And, if I hadn't seen the original, the movie still looks terrible. Count me out.

I had no inclination to see this at all. Then I saw the trailer, and now I am highly interested. Great trailer. Denzel has two awesome looking flicks on the way (Man on Fire, as well). I didn't think this movie was a necessary remake, but the awesome trailer changed my mind.

Why in the holy sweet Jesus would someone remake this movie?

Frankenheimer [sic] was going to remake it.
Admit it, you'd want to see that.
Too bad he kicked the bucket.

I would, but he was the original director, so it's more understandable. Jonathan Demme's OK, but it's still a furgin' unnecessary remake.

Another remake that's going to ruin the original's name. I hope I eat my words later.

The original was a mixed bag for me. The pace is VERY controversial but yet I was slightly turned off by the film. As the new one. WELL, it does look thrilling but a winner in disguise? I probably would jump for this flick.

The one thing I haven't seen anyone mention is that the title doesn't work, either. Supposedly, this movie's supposed to involve the Gulf War, not the Korean War. The original movie was called the Manchurian Candidate because of the connection to China (Manchuria is a place in China). If the new one involves Iraq, the title doesn't work.

An easy sell to both studios and moviegoers. For me, I'll stick with the 1962 original.
