ok ok i know theres a thread but that is about the director, theres going to be new news all the time so i thought this could be the thread for that!
the fantastic four is my all time fav comic, i grew up on it, my dad passed me down the orginal comics (like the first 100 i have everythig from like 4+ plus the wedding comic)
whats the news today, well its horrible news to be honest
Now that it appears that the long-delayed FANTASTIC FOUR movie at 20th Century Fox will go before cameras sometime this year, rumors about possible casting considerations have started to be heard. Last week the news was that Michael Chiklis (THE SHIELD) and Tim Robbins (MYSTIC RIVER) were possible players. Now a scooper has contacted us with what they've heard is being said on the set of BE COOL, the sequel to GET SHORTY that's presently filming.
According to our scooper, actress Christina Milian is one of the ladies being considered for the part of Susan Storm, a.k.a. The Invisible Woman in FANTASTIC FOUR. Milian is starring in BE COOL as Linda Moon, an up-and-coming singer who attracts the interest of Chili Palmer (John Travolta) and eventually represents Moon as her manager. Milian was seen earlier this year in TORQUE and in last year's LOVE DON'T COST A THING. She has already established a diverse successful singing and songwriting career, having several hit singles of her own as well as writing the hit song "Play" for Jennifer Lopez.
Please remember that this scoop comes from a new scooper and is unconfirmed at the present time, and as should be taken as an interesting rumor first rather than fact.
please just be a rumor please, she really young and well sue is a sexy blond, plus sue's a mom for gods sake, booooooooooooooooo
the script review at lation gave me so much hope, argh

i've said this type of thing before, and i'll say it just in case again...im in no way racist, but why cast a black girl for the role of her?
spacemonkey
04-13-2004, 11:09 AM
Im thinking, since all the characters in the comic are white, they want to change that, because by putting a more diverse cast in terms of race, they would attract a larger demographic to see the film.
But to be honest I dont agree with it, it should stick with the way the original concept is. Did they change Blades character to white to attract a larger audience? No, they stuck with the original characters concept, and as evidenced by box office returns that worked.
People dont like it when they fuck up characters that they have come to know and love, but oh well, who am I to try and stop the big hollywood studios?
They should stick to what people know as the Fantastic Four, I dont think more people will see it just cause one character is black.

I agree that it would be wrong to stray from the comic. I'd bitch even if they kept Sue Storm white but made her a redhead instead of a blonde; that's just the nit-picky fanboy geek that I am.
Anyone have suggestions for the casting of Dr.Doom? I just CAN'T see Tim Robbins pulling it off. Right now I'm drawing a blank except for George C. Scott in his fourties or fifties. Unfortunately he's no longer with us.

A good Dr. Doom? Hmm..well lets see...basically his just a guy with an Iron Mask on. But his personality is ruthless. Think of Hitler with a mask.
So who could pull off that Hitlerian vibe? Who could play a ruthless dictator without a heart? Hmm...Ill think about it and get back to you..but Ill tell you this. Tim Robbins it aint.

04-13-2004, 02:11 PM
Paul Walker is up for the role of The Human Torch...but it aint confirmed yet, so heres my question:
If Sue is going to be black...then I guess the human torch should also be black if they are both brother and sister in the comics. Now I dont remember Paul Walker being black last time I checked, so whats up with that?

Heres a cool cast for some of the characters:
- George Clooney would be perfect for Reed Richards. He even looks the part.
- Cameron Diaz as Sue. She defeneatly looks the part and looks mature enough to play her as well. Not to old not too young, but still hot as hell.
- James Mardsen as The Torch. He played psyclops on X2. I think he could defeneatly play the strong tempered Human Torch, and younger brother to Cameron Diaz.
- Arnold Schwarznegger as Dr. Doom, but unfortunately hes no longer with us.

Wow Tim Robbins would suck
So would Paul Walker (and whats up with him being a different colour to his sister?)
And Im sorry - but I may be the only one that thinks Chiklis would suck as well.
Being short and stocky is not enough to do that role.
My personal cast would be...
Reed Richards - George Clooney
Sue Richards - Bridgette Fonda
Johnny Storm - Matt Damon
The Thing - Dwayne 'The Rock" Johnson
Dr. Doom - Gary Oldman.
That to me is a perfect cast.

So help me god if they cast this movie like this I wont see it ever! All Im asking for is one flawless comic book movie, I dont want to watch something with all the directors creative differences wrote in. I think the Mike Chikilis as The Thing is the bomb, hes got the new york accent going on and Grim will most likely be CGI.
Im sick of directors trying to market their movies to a wider audience, maybe this movie is only for comic book nerds to see but so what? Id rather watch the old Fantastic Four movie now.
Nice Marmot
04-22-2004, 12:39 PM
People, Chiklis would only play Ben Grimm. The Thing would be CGI or the biggest dude they could find in a costume or something. He'd still have Chiklis's voice.
Having the Thing only be as big & tall as Chiklis would be a joke.

Dr. Doom - Gary Oldman.
That is the worst choice of the entire thread. Gary wouldn't fit this role in the least bit.
Actually, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, Paul Walker for any role in F4 would be an outrage. But your dr. doom choice comes close.
Maybe
Dr. Doom - Travolta, Cage, Fishbourne, or even Kiefer Sutherland.
Definitally KIEFER SUTHERLAND FOR DR. DOOM.

Is Brendan Fraser Up for Mr. Fantastic? Source: IGN Filmforce Wednesday, May 26, 2004
'Stax' alerted us that IGN Filmforce has learned that Brendan Fraser is in the running to play Reed Richard, aka Mr. Fantastic, in 20th Century Fox's Fantastic Four.
Sources close to the studio confirmed that the 35-year-old thesp is a contender for the lead role but emphasized that no official casting has taken place.
According to the industry trades, Fraser, an oft-mentioned contender for Superman, has no other film projects lined up for this summer. That makes him available for Fantastic Four, which begins filming this August in Vancouver.
Meanwhile, you can also check out casting breakdowns for the roles of Dr. Doom and Susan Storm at Star Search Casting.

Kate Bosworth
after watching win a date with tad hamilton, she would be perfect for looks and acting, so if its true that studios are really looking into movie webpages then please take this into serious consideration

George Clooney As Reed Richards
Bridgette Fonda As Sue Richards
Kip Pardue As The Human Torch

Latino Review reports a rumor about the Fantastic Four casting...
Our trustworthy scooper 'Becks23' has alerted us that actress Kate Bosworth is in the running to play Sue Storm aka The Invisible Girl. She fits the description of Star Search casting call. Also in the running for the part are Christina Milian, which Cinescape mentioned and Julia Stiles, which Ain't It Cool News mentioned.

I hate when they do this crap. I don't care about skin color one bit except when they screw up classic books or comics like this.
What if Heidi Fleiss played Storm in X-Men?
Or if Sean Astin played Blade.
I would be just as pissed.
It's just like they said on the Dave Chapelle Show (in reference to Tom Cruise being the Last Samurai).
This is a quote from CHAPELLE SHOW:

I wonder if they are going to make Doctor Doom have powers like in the new Ultimate Fantastic Four comic since last i heard they were changing his name to Van Damme. (ugg!)
In the new comic his metal is actual his skin and he is exposed to radiation along with the FF and recieves powers along with them, but like The Thing, cannot change back.
I flipped through it yesterday, and saw a pic of him peeling his skin off his hand and the metal is underneath. He still looks pretty much the same excpet the metal is organic.
Really, if they go in this direction i wouldnt mind it, he looked hella cool!

Ugh, they better pick good actors for this movie. I really like the comics.

Johnny Storm - Jonathan Rhys Meyers
The Thing - Michael Chiklis (Maybe Brendan Gleeson)
Dr. Doom - No idea...Christopher Walken? ;)

Jo just mentioned Rachel McAdams for the Invisible Woman which I am all for since Rachel is an awesome actress and should be in more stuff.
The only comic book movie where i disliked an actor who played a part in the movie was Michael Clark Duncan. Not because he's black, i couldn't care less about the race, but just that there is not a man in this entire world, big enough to play the Kingpin.
But as far as Christina Milian being Sue Storm I don't really like the idea. Actually i haven't seen her in anything so she might be a good actress but the whole pop stars acting irritates me, plus i think she's too young.

Jessica Alba?
Now I've never read the comics but i always wanted to, so I'm 99.9% sure that Sue Storm is supposed to be Johnny's mother, so what's with Jessica Alba playing a mother to a guy who i'm pretty sure is a bit older than her

I seriously hope the Invisible Woman and the Human Torch aren't related in this film adaptation, because the actors playing these characters look nothing alike. Thus far, this ain't looking like a Fantastic Four film. Instead, it's looking like a re-imagining of the Fantastic Four comic-books.
I wonder if Tim Story has even touched a FF comic.

I think they do kinda look alike. Plus the fact that it would be kinda hard to actually find either a brother and sister that could play these parts or two actors who REALLY look alike.
And name one actor off the top of your head who'd be better as The Thing (Off the top of your head, don't you dare use Google :D )

Good point. I'm not asking for identical twins here, all I'm really asking for is two actors who fit the roles. I used to be a huge Fantastic Four fan. I read the comic-books nonstop. And in my honest opinion, Jessica Alba and Chris Evans do not seem like the right choices for their respective characters. Hopefully, for the sake of the film, I'll be dead wrong.
As for your question, I would love to see The Rock as The Thing. Granted, The Rock is a different color than the character, but I think he would fit The Thing's physical appearance, and especially his personality and moods perfectly.

Not only that, but apparently Victor Von Doom (aka Dr. Doom) will be known as Victor Van Damn for a good majority of the film. He will also be the technical 5th member of the Fantastic Four. I suppose the name change from Van Damn, to Von Doom will take place towards the end of the film?

Not only that, but apparently Victor Von Doom (aka Dr. Doom) will be known as Victor Van Damn for a good majority of the film. He will also be the technical 5th member of the Fantastic Four. I suppose the name change from Van Damn, to Von Doom will take place towards the end of the film?
I actualy like the change to Van Damme after giving the Doom story arc a chance. In the new Ultimate story line the Van Damme line is desencants of the bloodline of count Dracula, the son of the devil.
Doom is such an ego-maniac in this new comic that the old Doom would look humble in comparison. When Doom was thrust intot he negative zone with the FF it changed him as well. It hasnt shown much of what he looks like under the robes so far, but it HAS shown that his skin has flaked off and armor that he wore in the old FF comic is now his skin!
..and he also has hooves now. Its goofy if u think about it but pretty sweet to see. It goes with the whole "devil" motiv they have now. I really dig it, its a great read and a pretty daring concept on such an established character that REALLY pays off for me. Totaly badass.

According to Entertainment Weekly:
"The Fantastic Four are cast. The Sheild's Michael Chiklis is the The Thing, Dark Angel's Jessica Alba (That hot little minx) is The Invisible Woman, King Arthur's Loan Gruffudd, is Mr. Fantastic, and The Perfect Score's Chris Evans is The Human Torch. The movie is a sizzling July 4th, 2005, tent pole"
That's straight from E.T. Weekly (except for the little minx part)

So far Doom has been the only decent casting choice if indeed, it is Ray Lolita.

COMIC-CON: The Fantastic Four Cast Speaks! Source: Superhero Hype! Wednesday, July 28, 2004
Three of 20th Century Fox's and Marvel Studio's Fantastic Four talked about the summer 2005 big screen adaptation at Comic-Con this weekend. In attendance were Michael Chiklis (Ben Grimm/The Thing), Jessica Alba (Susan Storm/The Invisible Girl) and Ioan Gruffudd (Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic). Chris Evans also plays Johnny Storm/The Human Torch in the Tim Story-directed film.
Here are Chiklis, Alba & Gruffudd, with an exclusive audio clip featuring Chiklis says "It's Clobberin' Time"! Just click the link to the clip when you get to it in the interview...
It sounds like from what Avi Arad and director Tim Story have said, you're trying to do this treatment of "Fantastic Four" the way the public deserves to have it done.
Chiklis: That's what it is all about. I, I think among us, was the fan of and the most aware of the "Fantastic Four" growing up. Of course, that makes me the oldest (laughing). You know, I really truly was a fan and I think that we're all aware of how rabid the fans are, how aware they are of every nuance and every aspect of this - more familiar than we are about it. I'm a fan. Like I said downstairs in the press conference, I thought I was a fan until you come here and you realize people can quote just about every episode number. It's taken to an extreme so, you know, I think we all feel the weight of it. But at the same time, we're so thrilled to have the opportunity to be involved in it that we're just going to have a blast and we're going to do it right and enjoy it.
Despite all of the special effects and everything, do you see any similarities between this character you're playing in this film and characters you play, like the one on "The Shield?"
Chiklis: Interestingly, yeah. There are some similarities. This is a guy who can be very scary and also be really likeable and downright cuddly. So, yeah, there's kind of a through-line in that way. But you know, his problems - meaning Ben Grimm/The Thing's problems - are different certainly than that of Vic Mackey or other characters I've played. There are broadstroke similarities and some specific differences.
Avi Arad, in a recent interview, said the story here would follow much more the new comic book the "Ultimate Fantastic Four," which is very different. As a fan of the Fantastic Four, can you talk about how this is a departure of the last 40 years and a new way of looking at the team?
Chiklis: No, in a word. I can't... I'm not nearly as familiar as I thought I was. I was just a kid who loved comics, who read them. I didn't study them. I didn't memorize them. I liked them. I had a particular affinity for Benjamin Grimm, for The Thing, just because I related to him. I could understand, you know, a guy feeling like unattractive and feeling like he's kind of on the outs, but yet feeling like you had something to offer. And feeling like there was something that you could do, and having a good inside of you and all of that. So I just liked him on a personal level, you know so… As far as the nuances between this version versus that version, you are much better off asking Avi than I or Tim [Story].
Are we going to see the love triangle between your three characters in this film.
Chiklis: Not in this installment. You're referring to the love triangle between Ben Grimm, …., and …. I thought you were referring to my girlfriend. That's a later thing down the road. There is no triangle here. It's a square.
Jessica, can you talk about your character and the aspect of her being the peacemaker of the group? She's always trying to mediate fights between The Thing and Johnny.
Jessica Alba: Yeah, The Thing and Johnny - and keep Ben from strangling his best friend for making him the way he is, and from Doom, you know, becoming a maniacal, evil bad guy. She keeps trying to keep everybody together. She just wants everyone to be okay. It seems like when she's trying to do that, everyone is so caught up in their problems that's when she disappears. And so it's very metaphorical. I love it. I'm not that familiar with the comic book and I read the script, and it's just great. It's about family and it's so hopeful. With so many families breaking up and with so many people so quick to sue people and to go and fight and go to war and do all these things, this is just about solving problems.
What was it that the producers and director saw in you that related to your character that you were cast in?
Alba: I don't know.
Ioan Gruffudd: I'm a mathematical genius (laughter). Gosh, I don't know.
Chiklis: I'm a thug that you want to hide from.
They saw so many people to choose from for these roles. There were a lot of people going out for them. Why do you think they chose you?
Gruffudd: I don't know. I think getting to know each other a little bit today and you getting to see us today, we're sort of down to earth people. And I think that's the main attraction of these characters, that they are real people that you can associate with. They're just in these incredible situations. I think that's the main attraction and possibly we'd like to think we've been cast because of that.
Did you test together for "Fantastic Four" or did you meet for the first time pretty recently?
Chiklis: The latter.
Alba: We actually met at an award show. We were presenting together. And then I met [Ioan] at a hotel bar lobby.
Is that a scandal?
Alba: (Laughing) No, with the director. He was doing press for "King Arthur" and he was in the middle of all his stuff. I honestly didn't know that this was going to happen because I so easily get typecast as the like kick-ass girl or the hot girl or whatever kind of thing, half-naked in this or that. And this is really who I am. I am a problem solver. I've been working since I was 12. I come from a really big family and I'm the oldest of 14 cousins, and we all live in Southern California. So I've always had to mediate. And I think when I sat down with Tim, he kind of saw that that's my nature.
Do you think that your role in Sin City prepared you at all for another comic book character? Did it make you more comfortable in tackling that?
Alba: Not at all. (Laughing) Sin City is a whole other thing.
What have they told you so far about the special effects particularly in regards to your characters as far as the CG enhancements?
Gruffudd: Nothing much really. I think all the other movies have raised the bar now. "Spider-Man 2" in particular. I have every faith that this is going to take it to the next level again.
Chiklis: I find it interesting, I don't know about you, but thus far we've been kept in the dark about an awful lot of things, and now things are starting to be revealed. I think part of that was because there's such anticipation and there's so many people wanting to know early what's going on that the policy for them, being the studio, has been the fewer people we tell, the less the leaks.
Alba: Even though we're the cast (laughing).
Chiklis: (Laughing) Even though we're the 'people'. But you know what? It's a need to know basis. But I've been assured many times that the resources are there, they're going to bring everything to bear. There are going to be some spectacular effects in this.
For my part, I did not want to do this if Ben Grimm was going to be a CGI. If he was going to be done in the way that The Hulk that was done. I felt that I would be wasted. I was assured from the get-go that that wasn't going to be the case, and I was thrilled. They would use some CGI enhancements in creating nuances, and he told me a couple of ideas that I just thought were so hot sh**.
For an actor, it's a thrill to be involved in this type of thing. I've not done really anything of this scale. Everything I've done has been about the acting work, about character development, about people interacting. This is still very much like that, but with a huge scale of technical support around it. That's what really attracts me to this project from a directorial standpoint. Tim has said from the beginning the technical will support the character development. I think fans will love to hear that, too. That's a thrill. All too often, as we all know with big, huge multi-hundred million dollar pictures like this, the studio or the director often makes the mistake of rushing to the next explosion. As you all know, if you don't care about your central characters, you don't care if they blow up or not. So the idea that the onus will be on the development of this family and that's why I think personally "Spider-Man 2" is so successful and it's so good. Well-drawn and well-developed characters and yeah, there's spectacular effects, but you care about Tobey Maguire and Kirsten getting together. You know, you care about them so they take you on the ride and so those effects are effective.
There are no secret identities in "Fantastic Four." Will the nature of celebrity be explored?
Chiklis: That's a very different thing than any of them. We become discovered.
Alba: And what's great is Johnny Storm, he acts as every pop star young guy who's in the Star magazine, in the People magazine, the US Weekly, who gets a bunch of money and the cars.
Chiklis: He relishes it.
Alba: He loves it, and he's living out the fantasy of every pop star/"American Idol"-wannabe guy. [Reed's] the scientist and he doesn't really...
Gruffudd: I'm [wracked] with guilt.
Alba: Yeah, he doesn't capitalize on the fame thing. I think actually Ben Grimm has a really difficult time with it, and can't really get away from it.
Chiklis: I'm the one who looks at it as a malady. She's still gorgeous, but she can knock people down with this force field. She can disappear. He can stretch himself but he's still the handsome, dashing cad (laughter). I'm this leper. And then when I… I don't want to give anything away, but I'm dealing with a sense of betrayal in this picture, as well, because I want to believe. That's one of the great things that's written about this. You have Dr. Doom who's trying to create a wedge between the relationships of the Fantastic Four, particularly [Reed] and I and causing mistrust and a feeling of betrayal. And it's like Jessica said, it's about overcoming that and those feelings and coming together as a core. And then obviously the ultimate metaphor is as a core, as a family, overcoming evil.
What about the playful part of the "Fantastic Four" story, where Reed and Ben are like brothers going through this?
Gruffudd: Yes, I think so. I mean, I think the beginning of the story is us as real people and our friendship, and then the accident happens. So yes, certainly you'll have that element to it.
Your temples? What color will they be?
Gruffudd: I'm not sure whether I play him from the beginning that he went gray from the age of 19. I think that's the starter. Or do I then… Since the accident does he develop those little graying hairs? That's something to play with. We'll have to talk about that and discuss that.
And you're already blonde for the role.
Alba: I was actually blonde in "Sin City" and "Into the Blue." This is my third.
Chiklis: I'm blonde too (laughing).
Will you be throwing any couches in the movie?
Chiklis: I'll be throwing all kinds of things. I have a really cool moment with a lamppost in this movie. You know it's one of those things as an actor, and I know you guys are going to hook up to this, where you read the [script] and you go, "Oh cool honey, I get to do this!" You know what I mean? Like there's… No, I can't tell.
Oh, go ahead.
Chiklis: There's so many moments where I'm reading it going, "Oh, that's awesome!" It's really well-written, I have to say.
Alba: It really is.
Chiklis: As an actor, the hardest thing in the world is when you read a script and you go, "Oh boy," at all, on any level. And even if it's just okay, then there's this feeling that you have to lift it. You have to bring something more to it. When it's good on the page, all of a sudden now it raises your confidence level because you go into it feeling armed. The best example I have of that is I did a one-man show on Broadway once. It was really successful, and it was successful because it was a great script. And I used to go out there on Friday nights, which is the worst night in the world on Broadway because it's all the New Yorkers who are sitting there like this, "Alright assh***. I paid $65 a head, make me laugh." In Defending the Caveman. But I felt confident because I knew I was armed with the material. So I could go out there and go, "Okay, you're copping an attitude now but I know by the time to get to 'Alright I'm an assh***' I'm going to get the laugh." It really feels good to be armed.
Will your character have a blind girlfriend?
Chiklis: Yeah, yes. And I don't know who she is yet and I can't wait to meet her (laughing).
When does this start for you guys?
Alba: In a month.
Did you have to prepare physically for this?
Chiklis: I'm training like a freak, personally. (Laughing) I need to trim down at the waist and bulk up at the [chest]. I'm hitting it big time.
Alba: I always train before a movie because it's actually quite exhausting. I mean, we're on the set literally and have to be there 14 hours easy, [on an] easy day. In order to be able to do that, you've got to be on your game.
Have you tried on the costumes yet?
Alba: (Lauhging) Yeah. I tried mine on. Did you guys try yours?
Chiklis: I think one of the most humiliating moments of my life was putting on spandex, personally. It's always nice when four women pull you into spandex when you're in jockey shorts. Yeah.
Alba: With the zippers on the inside.
Chiklis: And the pinching…
Alba: I was so scared of the pinching. She had to use a tool to get my right leg.
Chiklis: Did they have the fan blowing on you?
Gruffudd: Yeah.
Chiklis: That causes shrinkage.
Alba: I had the guys making the costumes kind of looking at me like [puzzled expression]. I was like, "Is there a problem?" "No, I'm just looking."
Chiklis: That guy prides himself on being pro, too. He looks at you like you're a mannequin, not like you're a person. He's doing his job.
Alba: Yeah. The costumes are very cool and they are spandex and we do have gloves and boots.
Will the costumes have 4's on your chests?
Alba: Yes.
Chiklis: Now, of course, they are also building The Thing deal. Thankfully thus far they've spared me a lot of the pre-stuff. They are basically going to pare the process down to about five hours before they try it on me. Right now they are doing it on my life cast.
Which company?
Chiklis: Someone has got to tell us the name of the company again because we've all forgotten the name of the company. I think it is Spectral Motion. What is Mike's name?
Alba: He did Hellboy.
Chiklis: They're a fantastic group over there. They make it as comfortable as possible. I know if you're a claustrophobe, it's a nightmare. Thankfully, I'm not. I don't know if they are.
Alba: This was really strange for me because I was with a bunch of guys and I was by myself, and it was 8 in the morning. I had this body suit-thing on and they're like, "So we're going to put Vaseline all over your body." I was like, "Oh, okay… Like, everywhere?" They're like, "Yeah, everywhere." So I'm like, "Okay …" And then they got closer and closer to those certain areas that only, you know, certain people are allowed to go (laughter). And they were lubing it up. That was a little weird.
Why did they lube you up?
Alba: They have to lube you up before they put the cast thing on so it won't stick to you.
Chiklis: The life cast.
Why did they need the cast?
Alba: I think they just wanted it so they can build the costume on it. I don't even know.
Chiklis: The life cast. There's a number of purposes for them. They're for action figures. They are for the spandex suits, [which] have to fit exactly anatomically correct. And you know a life cast, once they rip it off you in half, put it back together, they pour the liquid cement in there, it dries, they pull it off and they have Jessica Alba's body exactly. I don't want to say the other reasons why they wanted to make these things (laughing). No, but I mean there are all practical issues for all of it.
So all four of you went through the process?
Chiklis: Not him.
Gruffudd: I'm a perfect specimen.
Are you guys ready to see all three of your likenesses in Toys R Us?
Alba: I have never been in Toys R Us, by the way.
Chiklis: I have been. I have 3 children. [Jessica's] lived that and I have too with "The Shield" now. They made a bobble-head.
Alba: It's very strange.
Was a good likeness?
Alba: I've had two of them. One was a very voluptuous and the other one was very masculine, so we'll see what this one's like.
Comic book fans are really opinionated and there's been a lot of speculation on the Internet as to who would be cast in your role. Do any of you ever pay attention to those comments?
Alba: Honestly, I was worried. Absolutely, obviously. But at the end of the day, when this opportunity came I couldn't say no. I just feel I wouldn't be able to sleep at night if I turned this movie down. It's such a great story and I'm going to work my ass off. And hopefully people will be pleased.
Is there anything you're doing to non-physical get prepared to start filming? Are you researching the comic books?
Alba: Falling in love with a guy who just won't tell me his emotions? Yeah, I'm doing that (laughing).
Chiklis: You know, I'm re-familiarizing myself with the comics. I think we're all looking back at that.
Alba: Graphic novels.
Chiklis: Yeah. And also, I think we're all hungry to get out there and see a lot of the nuts and bolts aspect of this. How we're going to achieve certain things. It's one thing when you read it in script form and you see it in your mind's eye. But then you go, "How the f*** are we going to do that?"
Alba: Yeah, especially that first moment when they put their things to use. It's pretty f***ing, excuse my language, incredible.
Chiklis: The thing with me and the Doc going down in the subway. That's going to be…
Alba: You can't say things!
What about the coat and the hat? Will you be wearing those and the sunglasses? The classic Thing look.
Chiklis: I will be.
What about "It's clobbering time?"
Chiklis: You will hear [in The Thing voice], "It's clobbering time." I think that's about the right pitch.
Do you have a lot of "brainbox" patter to get through?
Gruffudd: Yes, a lot of that which I will make very interesting for you all.
Chiklis: I'm so thrilled to be the center of attention.

Doctor Rounds for McMahon on 'Fantastic'
Tue Aug 3, 2004 03:13 AM ET
By Chris Gardner
LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - "Nip/Tuck" star Julian McMahon could be slicing his way into "Fantastic Four."
The actor is in talks to round out the cast of the comic book adaptation as the quartet's main nemesis -- Dr. Doom. McMahon got the offer Friday, and sources say a deal is likely to be made for him to join cast members Michael Chiklis as Benjamin Grimm/the Thing, Ioan Gruffudd as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, Jessica Alba as Susan Storm/the Invisible Girl and Chris Evans as Johnny Storm/the Human Torch.
The 20th Century Fox/Marvel Studios actioner follows the adventure-seeking four who develop superpowers when their spaceship is exposed to cosmic radiation. Tim Story ("Barbershop") will direct.
The role would be McMahon's first studio feature, a boost propelled by the critical and commercial hit "Nip/Tuck" on FX. His name also has been on the list as a possible replacement for Pierce Brosnan in MGM's James Bond franchise, sources said. McMahon has worked largely on television on such shows as "Charmed" and "Profiler."

"The role would be McMahon's first studio feature" IE. he's prepared to work for peanuts.
"His name also has been on the list as a possible replacement for Pierce Brosnan in MGM's James Bond franchise, sources said" Yeah right & Pauly Shore's up for villain.
"McMahon has worked largely on television on such shows as "Charmed" and "Profiler."" & after this flick that's where he'll work largely again.

I agree, especially since they're going for the younger FF.
He's great on Nip/Tuck and he can be pretty evil judging by what I've seen of him on Charmed

I'm worried the origin of Dr. Doom will conflict with the origin of Darth Vader. Similar characters and stories opening within a few months of each other. I imagine Dr. Doom will loose his cape to distinguish them a bit more.

are you basing this on strictly the fact that they wear a mask?

Dooms origin will be nothing like Vaders.
Vader was a jedi who was seduced by the dark-side.
Doom was an ego-maniac that burned his face by putting on a iron mask (that was still hot) to hide a small scar.
Mr. Fancy Pants

The Dr. Doom story I remember from when I was a kid was his face was pretty badly disfigured before the mask went on.
And I thought when Darth Vader's mask came off he looked kind of gnarled up too.
It's more than they just wear a metal mask. They both only have one outfit and it's kind of similar. Anybody out there on my side?
adamjohnson
08-11-2004, 09:47 PM
Welp, heres the scoop on the mask. It WAS disfigured from the mask, but it healed while making the mask. But, of course, Doom still saw himself as disfigured so he rushed the mask on. Still being too hot, the mask fused itself onto his face, and horribly disfigured him again.

AJ called it pretty close
i dont think they are goina be compared at all.... Doom is much more evil than Vader is IMO, i really hope they can pull this off on the big screen and if they can then its going to be amazing

Now I haven't been one to really delve into F4, but I like it. This movie looks like it could be really good, I think that what matters most in movies like this is effects. Good ones equals major bucks, lets just hope that whoever's putting this "thing" toghther....(comic humor :D )

I have a problem with this picture. It doesn't look right. The Thing look considerably small compared to that taxi in the background.
I've studied it hard and the more i look at it, the more the taxi looks larger. Anyone else agree?

It's my belief that Thing will be phtographed with forced perspective (did anyone else hear this?), a la the hobbits in the LORD OF THE RINGS. That way, he will appear much larger onscreen.

Hey Im willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. Taxi and Barbershop were good films with in their genre (At least I thought so). I think we should give him the benefit of the doubt. Now on the other hand if Fantastic Four sucks, he will go down in my little black book of people I have to kill.

I'm optimistic about The Fantastic Four (because of Tim Story), as well as Singer's Superman (because I'm very UN-familiar with Routh. And to be honest, he wasnt my ideal choice as the man of steel).
But I'll hope for the best with both films.

Hey, it LOOKS good so far. I was worried after reading some wrap about how the Torch was NOT going to be "flamey", and he was just pretty much going to be the male-equivalent of Liz Sherman. Thank GOD they got it 100% right (from what I have seen from the footage).
Mr. Fantastic looks just fine, as does Sue Storm. I was a bit scared about them casting a brunette as Torch, but like I said, the CGI footage of him blasting up near the fire escape (nice little tongue-in-cheek shot) looked JUST fine.
What I DON'T understand is why people are so quick to bash Dr. Dooms look. Does he NOT fit his comicbook-counterpart ENOUGH, or is it too MUCH? I don't get it, but then again, I DO read the TB'ers from AICN more than the opinions here at the JoBlo.com M-Boards. Which will stop as of now :D.

I honestly don't know what to think. I can't really tell too much from this clip, I'm guessing it could go either way. I just hope that there's no "wink, wink" "Nudge, nudge" humor. I hate that.
It will probably make $150-200MM domestic.
Chris Evans is HOT (no pun intended - Just hope he doesn't say "Flame On!" He'll NEVER hear the end of that). Jessica Alba is Hot (and I'm gay!) If there's enough gratuitous nudity, you'll have all the gay guys, all the straight guys, and straight girls too.
p.s. the video of the human torch is GREAT.

What people are hating bout is they changed the orgin of Doom, he now is a new york buisness man, and he went on the flight with the FF and that is how he gains his powers, and he has organic metal skin, everyone is loving the costume, but they are pised off about all of the above

I agree. Best part of the trailer, IMO.
Cant say I've ever been a die hard FF fan, so the tweeks in Dr. Doom's origin doesnt really bother me as it does to some I suppose. I actually kinda like the idea that he's technically the 5th member. But not so much on the "New York business man" scenerio.
Oh well, looking forward to this movie regardless.

After thinking about the changes Dooms backstory I think itll make the movie less corny since the Four would have to travel to Dr Dooms castle and back this would just give us more CLOBBERIN TIME!!!! Oh and I dont know what Jessica Alba did to herself but shes hotter than ever before!!

I don't know, I though the exact opposite, jOvy. While A Perfect Circle isn't a fave of mine, I did find that the song (Counting Bodies Like Sheep To The Rhythm Of The War Drums) was fitting, even though the song has a totally different meaning to it (which is best left in the Political Thread). The industrial sound really made that trailer. If it were a crappy nu-metal band doing it, I don't think it would've come off as such. Hopefully the film doesn't turn out to be a letdown after that trailer (everyone nods and says 'The Punisher').
By the way, is it just me, or does Ioan Gruffudd (Mr. Fantastic) look like John Stewart in some shots?

Fantastic Four was new when I was a kid. I learned how to draw from copying Jack Kirby. I've been waiting 40 years for this. Origin stories usually bore me but I hope it does well enough to get a sequel and I hope that sequel is the story of the Inhumans and I hope they make it before I die. Jessica Alba is only thing in the trailer better than my imagination but it's enough to give me hope.

Couple of things I didn't like about the trailer...
1. The Thing might have saved the innocent person by knocking out the truck, but the impact probobly killed the truck driver.... way to there 'hero'..... Lets hope a bad guy was driving, eh?
2. The last shot of the Thing throwing the car was terrible, look at it again, he didn't even touch the car!
3. In between the "Changed" and "Forever" titles at the beginning, we see the all famous normal-then-sped-then-normal shot of Alba used in sooo many action trailers.... It has never looked more ridiculous than now.
4. "July Fourth"----"4TH!"-----"4 ever!-------"enough bad puns!"
5. "1 will be bad. Four will be Fantastic!"... common... I know its a comic book movie but did they have to make it 'that black and white'? This is the extent of the plot.
Though I have to admit the last half was edited nicely, lets hope this isn't another adventure film where the trailer is better than the movie.

I just had the chance to watch the trailer for the 1st time, I I liked it a lot. I thought it was well made. It teased a lot, gave away a few things, but not too much. I really thought the music accented the trailer, not detracted from it. When ever we see the word "bad" we get that badass bassy riff that starts. I thought that was pretty effective in picking up the tempo/action from that point on. This is definitely higher on my must see list now. However, there are just way too many good films coming out in 2005. This is still behind STAR WARS 3, BATMAN BEGINS, KING KONG, and SIN CITY.

It would be lame in a comic book as well. Maybe it sounded cool in 1960, but this aint then.
That was the problem i had with the first Spider-man, many of the lines were just so high on the cheese-o-meter that it made me cringe. (SM2 was great tho)

Looks corny. And to paraphrase a major problem I had...
"4... 4... 4... 4... 4... 4... 5, 1... 4... 4... 4... 4... "
Ehhh... anybody else catch that one?
And I guess now, Doctor Doom is with them when all of this happens? Or something? Wha?
And the song (or part of it) they're using is pretty much solidly "industrial"... which this movie isn't... (were they trying to imply Doctor Doom with it?) as much as I hate to say it, yes I would have settled for (the instrumental part of) a nu metal band. The trailer needed a lot more guitar, much more drumming, and a lot less techno-esque.
Not to mention Doom is wwwaaayyyy too thin, and Darthy... he's supposed to be a very tough dude who's also !!! RULER OF AN ENTIRE NATION !!!... him looking like Darth Doom makes me wonder if they scrapped that part of his story too... blech... Not to mention the guy playing Torch still looks way too much like Mr. Fantastic.
Anyway, back to the realm of not-complete-whining... would it have killed them to have the moneyshot of Doom on his throne (just a flash)? If they pulled off that one shot in the movie, it'd be worth the price of admission for me.
EDIT: NM, I went back and saw someone posted a newer pic of Doom. My ticket offer is revoked. [whine]

It's not based on the 60s comic
It's based on the ultimate fantastic four series
And i guess in that doom was with 'em.
Not to mention Doom is wwwaaayyyy too thin,
And Wolverine was too tall.

In the Ultimate Fantatic Four Doom has metal skin, hooved goat legs, can shoot his metal from his body, and his internal organs have been converted to a poison gas.
..realy nasty makeover they gave him, he looks a bit like the devil, NOTHING like the sith-lord Doom they have set up for the movie.

The Doom in the movie has more of a Ultimate FF origin while maintaining a smaller version of the old school's appearence. Latvera, I believe, is now the name of his company, instead of his nation. However that is what I have heard from early Script Reviews. I have no idea what changes have been made since theN.

It's funny, though, there was rumors a while back that Fox would be worried about Dr. Doom not working since Episode III is being released the same year.

Yeah, i remember that silly rumor. I guess they decided to run with him anyway since the only other COOL villian the FF has ever faced is....uh.....hrm...yeah.

They have plenty of cool villians, I hope they use Gallactis for the sequal if it's successful.. That would be awesome!

I agree, Shockwave (with both of those). And I have to admit, I'm not too impressed with the first images from the trailer (especially Dr. Doom), but I am intrigued. And props to the song from A Perfect Circle. Hopefully the full trailer will be more satisfying, or just better overall.

Who copied who?

No one copied anyone, but FOX (im convinced) is run by monkeys, who do not have time to worry about real problems, so they invent their own in new and exciting ways.
this is my most anticipated movie of the year and the best trailer of 2005.

Well I finally saw the previews for this and wow! I loved the thing smashing that truck! And throwing that car across the street!
Though that truck smashing scene reminded me a lot of Hellboy. I half expected The Thing to say "Orange means stop!" :D
Also Dr. Doom is looking mean! I gotta feeling Im going to love this one!

I get the same feeling!
I know it's still early yet but Fox/Marvel has got to start promoting this film. I love what I've seen and heard so far but I've had to hunt for the info myself. To my knowledge, the FF trailer has only been shown before Elektra. So, that means NO ONE has seen it yet. If word gets out, the FF will be a huge hit.

I agree. I've always been a fan of the trailers that introduce us to the charactors on a more individual basis and not just through random footage.
