Gov't Calls Dolly Parton 'Living Legend'

Associated Press

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Dolly Parton will receive "The Living Legend" award Wednesday from the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C., a spokeswoman for the entertainer said.

Parton, 58, will perform at the ceremony for a taped special that will air in May on the cable channel "Great American Country," publicist Kim Fowler said.

Selected by the library's curators and specialists, honorees include artists, writers, entertainers, activists, filmmakers, physicians, sports figures and public servants.

Among the past recipients are musicians Johnny Cash and Ray Charles; filmmakers Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese; comedian Bob Hope; and baseball player Cal Ripkin Jr.

Parton is a singer, songwriter, actress and businesswoman. Her hit songs include "Jolene" and "9 to 5."

Umm..is it because they're all white? Or uh...Jewish?

Seriously, is that it? Cause I don't know.

Well, congrats to her anyway. Especially for being one of the few singers in the world that nobody can think of a good reason to hate.

SHIVER ME TIMBERS...I MEAN REALLY, DOES ANYBODY HAVE ANY BEEF WITH THIS WOMAN?

The original quote from the article was "Among the past recipients are musicians Johnny Cash and Ray Charles; filmmakers Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese; comedian Bob Hope; and baseball player Cal Ripkin Jr." I think it's safe to assume that he was given the award while he was alive.
