That's right. Fox has greenlighted Serenity, a flick based on the (unfairly) short-lived Joss Whedon TV series, Firefly.

Last I heard, the flick would be a retelling of the story.
You know, if the movie does well, it might fuel interest in reviving the show.

What do my fellow Whedon fans think?

You know not of what you speak! Firefly did not bomb it was basically forced off the air by FOX.

Remember ole CSM was there in the trenches I worked for FOX during this time.

They started the show during the end of the sports season, making sure it rarely aired on the same night or at the same time. They would also skip weeks at a time to air games instead.

Unless you really knew about the show you had no clue when it would be on.

And wow, it didn't make gobs of money after the first 4 episodes so FOX canceled it. FOX as I am sure you are well aware is cancel happy.

But Firefly in my opinion was the best damn Sci-Fi show to come down the pike since Farscape.

Joss had balls and did things no other Sci-Fi TV show ever has. Such as sticking to the fucking rules of physics!

There is no god damn sound in space! He stuck to that and it was very dramatic.

Plus the writing and cast was top notch.

Compared to some other long running Sci-Fi shows like Andrommeda, Firefly was like finding a bag full of hundred dollar bills on the street, it was brilliant!

But again as we all know shows that are actually smart, well written and may take more than one episode to understand the characters are canned to make way for more Jerry Springer.

I am thrilled to see a movie coming. I have my doubts that it will draw a big audience because the show was never given a chance.

But the DVD is out now, so maybe others will find it and come to see the show. I know I will be there.

If you like a good story, witty dialouge, good action, and a little meat to your characters I suggest you check this show out and be first in line at the theater.

See you there.

Another thing that Fox did was air the episodes out of order (like showing the excellent two-hour pilot LAST). Why? Because they think that their viewers are total dumbshits. Firefly was an incredible show that had incredible potential, but was unfortunately cut down by the dickbrains at Fox.
What's the deal with fucking with Joss's shows? First Buffy, then Angel, and then Firefly! Oh well.
Personally, I feel that Firefly had the potential to be greater than both Angel and Buffy combined. I mean, think about it. Look at the first seasons (Hell, maybe even the first TWO seasons) of both of those two shows! The 13 episodes Firefly (only about 10 of which were aired) felt smoother, slicker, dare I say BETTER than the others!

Anyways, I guess what I'm trying to say is...

Fuck Fox. Firefly rocks.

Firefly kicked ass. FOX was fucking stupid to air it the way they did - all out of order, starting with episode 2 and ending with the premier. It was like they wanted it to fail.

Can't wait for the movie.

I never saw the TV show (it was never shown here) but I am a HUGE Whedon fan, Angel and Buffy are two of my most beloved obsessions.

Can't wait for this!

Urban,

My man you need to hunt down the dvd's and either rent them or borrow them or buy them.

If you liked Buffy or Angel you will love Firefly.

I have to agree that the first episodes were great right out of the box. I can only imagine how the characters would have turned out after a few seasons.

I was lucky enough to see the pilot first as they sent it to FOX months before it aired for the stations to check out.

Too bad that no other network picked it up. But Sci-Fi is dead now so I am not surprised they passed on it.

Ahh if only I was a Billionare I would start my own network just for this show.

See you at the theater.

Yeah, if the show doesn't air over here soon I might just buy the DVDs over the net. It looks like a great show. Problem is, it might just start showing, and I might not notice. Angel (only season 4!) airs here 11.15pm every Wednesday, Firefly might be a late show too. I'll have to wait and see, I'll probably end up getting the DVDs either way...

Can't wait for the movie though!
