I have been waiting for the movie Troy for the past year but i have a question.
I read the Iliad and loved it. As i watched the Trailers of Troy i began wandering were the freaking gods are. In the iliad there were gods and in the movie there are none.
THEY PLAYED A HUGE PART IN THE ILIAD.
What about Patroklus (crap i cant be arse to get the correct spelling) is he in it?
And do you think Troy will be a great movie?

There are no supernatural elements in the movie. The movie offers a suggestion of what might have been the real life events that created the myth.
I think the movie will be very good.

So you're saying that there's no achille's heel or anything like that?

RE:
Achille's heel is there, but...
*** HUGE SPOILERS ***
In the film Achilles is shot with countless of arrows and he dies because of them. The arrows are then removed from his body by his men. However, they miss an arrow from his heel. So when the dead Achilles is carried among his people, they see only the arrow in his heel, and thus the legend is born. I haven't seen the film, but this was told in one very positive test screening review. So I might make some mistakes in here, but this is the basid idea in the film.
I think that's pretty clever, but this "realistic" re-telling of the events might upset purists. Many historians believe that the war of Troy actually did happen once, and the myth was created later on. Illiad is based on word of mouth tradition which was then written into a book by several writers.

I agree that homer didnt exist. I mean Homer means by word of mouth and i heard a story about a king who got several writers to write the iliad. Also i wanna see them make The odyessy with SEAN BEAN as Odysssieus (Or whatever).
BTW SEAN BEAN plays odyssieus is THE iliad.

Actually, in the film, the first arrow that hits Achilles goes into the back of his foot (by the Achilles tendon, duh), startling him and allowing him to get hit with several more arrows from a lone archer. And because he's such a badass in the movie, he pulls out all the arrows (which lodge in his chest and stomach) but fails to pull the one from his foot before he dies.
Off the subject, Brad pitt did a damn fine job in this film. I think y'all should see this one.

I read his death in some test screening review a while ago, so my memory was getting hazy. Thanks for the correction. What did you think of the film in general? Would you mind writing a small review?

Ah , just looks boring , a bunch of glamour boys wearing robes and armor , and there is a huge fight at the end with a bunch of CGI doubles , yayyyy .
After ROTK this film has almost zero appeal for me .

I have read both books by ole Homer and liked them but after seeing Pitt in the trailers I think I will stay away.
I was never really into this flick, and didn't really have a good or bad opinion.
But after seeing a few trailers my opinion started to lean to the bad side especially after hearing Pitt speak.
No skin off my nose I guess and I am sure it will do good with all the hunks drawing in the ladies. But I think the long term success will depend on how much story their is vs battle.
Too much battle the ladies get bored, not enough it becomes a chick flick.
That is very generalized of course. :D

Man this movie is going to be HUGE!! I don't know one demographic that doesn't want to see this movie.
first off you have me
- 21 year old male who likes his action, epic stories and crazy battles - check
then you have my female friends, they want to see brad, orlando in revealing attire, sweating it up...plus they actually like the action
you've got my parents who know the story, who like brian cox, sean bean, brendan gleeson etc...
this movie just looks likes it gonna kick all sorts of ass at the B.O.

I am looking forward to this as much as any Male 18-25 is, but my only worry is that they worry too much about the aesthetics of the movie, and not the story. I'm putting a good deal of stock into it, and really hope that it delivers.

The " Cool guy for the Queer Eye " fans will love this , as will the hosts of that dreadful show .
Yep , CSM , Pitt can be excellent in certain roles , but i'm not buying him in this role whatsoever . Bloom is doing jus another variation on Legolas , and i can't take Bana seriously after the disaster that was The Hulk .
I know the film will look nice , it cost 200 mil , it better look good , it just looks boring , tired , and uninspired .
And again , if i want epic battles , the LOTR trilogy fits the bill nicely .

This movie has everything going for it except for one thing: Orlando Bloom. Who the hell decided to cast that "pretty-faced" piece of shit in the first place anyway?
I'm looking forward to the movie, but the fact that Bloom is in it REALLY irks me.

I know that some of you are expecting this movie to suck but honestly it doesn't. The acting it believable. The casting (while a little too pretty) is well done. The special effects and CGI are, for the most part, rarely noticeable (which is how it should be). The cinematography is beautiful. And the action scenes are on par with those of Gladiator.
Now, the bad: The plot is somewhat nonexistent but that didn't hurt Master & Commander so why should it do so here. It's excessive running time (163 minutes) was also a problem. I like long, epic films but this one seemed a little too long. They definitely could've cut the length down a bit.
So, all in all, I would give this film at least a 8.5/10.

I went into this movie thinking Pitt wasn't going to be able to pull it off, either. I saw the trailers and that one line that (at the time) sounded fake as shit really got to me. And I've always been skeptical of his acting ability in new (more challenging) roles. But since my "movie ticket" was free I saw it anyway.
Brad Pitt is excellent in this film. Don't let the trailers fool you.
And Bloom? Well, he is sort of a one-note actor. So while he wasn't terribly original in his acting, he was at least believable.
And Bana didn't once make me think about The Hulk while I watched this movie. Maybe you won't, either. And he is a good actor, regardless.

Yeah, this is a relief cause I was watching the trailer and the one thing that got me almost cracking up was when Brad Pitt said, "Is there no one else? Is there NO ONE ELSE?!"...it was such a cheesy line the way they did it in the trailer...
That said, i think brad pitt can be an amazing actor at times so it's nice to know that he's good in this film.
