July, 2004.
Matt Damon is: Jason Bourne in:
The Bourne Supremacy.
I saw the poster for this today while at the theater for Kill Bill Vol. 2. I have no idea what its about, other than that its the sequel to The Bourne Identity.
If anyone knows what the plot is, post it, cause I loved Identity and wanna know.
I do want to say this though, the tagline for the new movie is "They should've just left him alone".
No shit. 'Identity' was just fine the way it was, and didnt need a sequel. But we all know how money hungry hollywood is so whatever.

I don't know anything about this movie, but I just thought you should know that Supremacy is the second in a series of "Bourne" novels by Robert Ludlum, so if you have to blame someone, it should be Mr. Author Man.

Yeah, Bourne Supremacy is the second book, Bourne Ultimatum is the third book. However, the first movie had almost nothing to do with the book, so I think it would be impossible to actually base a movie sequel off of the book sequel.
I dunno, I really liked the first movie so I'm open to a second. Especially since they got the main actress back, I loved her in the first.

So how many Bourne books are there in total? don't tell me it's a trilogy. EVERYTHING's a trilogy. Whatever happened to stand-alone stories, damn it.

Sorry, but yes, it's a trilogy.

I was disapointed in the first one.. started off good, but just bored me the more it went along, so I'll probably skip the second unless I hear reviews stating that it "surpasses" the first one by leaps and bounds.
Well, I quite liked the first one so I'm willing to give the second a chance. If Franka Potente is back, I'll be there.

The Bourne Identity was a decent action flick. I'll check this one out I guess.

I really loved the first one, and it's great that the whole cast is back, I'm just afraid they might repeat themselves a little bit here. Never read the books (only read a few Ludlum books on the beach as a kid...ran out of Tom Clancy ;) ), so I don't know much about the plot, but here's hoping it'll be decent, new, won't feel like a rehash of the first one, and be good enough to start a new, different trend in espionnage movies. Like the first one kind of did -- no explosions, and the hero only sleeps with ONE girl...and he actually has to TALK to her before he does! :)
But I'll be there. As I said, main problem with it is about the story -- and the writers are Tony Gilroy (THE BOURNE IDENTITY, PROOF OF LIFE, THE DEVIL'S ADVOCATE) and Brian Helgeland (PAYBACK, MAN ON FIRE, MYSTIC RIVER, L.A. CONFIDENTIAL). So I figure it should be ok. :)
Oh, and it'll be interesting to see how much the style of the movie changes from IDENTITY -- as the director changed. THE BOURNE IDENTITY was directed by Doug Liman, this one's directed by Paul Greengrass (BLOODY SUNDAY). Both are interesting choices for an espionnage movie, so I'm intrigued.

The Lord of the Rings is ONE story broken up into three volumes and called a trilogy, but it's not.

I'll look forward to this. "Bourne Identity" was a very smart, slick action movie, and this has most of the cast returning as well as Joan Allen and Karl Urban.
Should be fun.

Loved the first movie. can't wait for this one.
PS. i just saw a small one minute trailer for the movie just then on E! News Live and all i can say is
FUCK YEAH
it looks like it has a kick-arse car chase, excellent atmosphere (hopefully like the first one) and fighting.
i bought the trilogy 3-in-1, but haven't started reading it. soon.

The books are great, but three warnings:
1- They are nothing like the movie. Or rather, the movie was nothing like the books.
2- They're a blast, but very very very very much a relic of the Cold War era, and so parts of them feel a bit dated.
3-The chick is french-Canadian instead of German. Which automatically makes her about a million times less cool. (No offense the Montreal residents floating our boards...)

~ I just was part of the first audience screening of this movie and I'm really impressed with what I saw. It's still a work in progress and it needed a few trimmings but besides that the movie is just as good as the first. This movie is what James Bond should be like nowadays. It put the thrill back in thriller for me.
The plot at first seemed a little bit flimsy but as the movie progressed the plot deepened and actually turned out really well in the end. The story itself is chockfull of espionage and cutthroat spy activities, which leads to some great tense moments and action scenes. But by far the main reason to see this movie is for the best car chase sequence since Ronin. The photography is simply amazing. The whole chase sequence is one for the car chase hall of fame. That alone is worth the price of admission.
Acting wise mostly everyone does a good job of acting shady and Spyish. It really feels like your seeing the internal workings of the CIA. Matt Damon's performance was top rate as well as Brian Cox who as usual brought his great acting chops out to play.
If you’re looking for just a plain old-fashioned balls to the wall action thriller this movie is your calling card.
See it just for the kick ass car chase :)

Me too, i couldn't finish watching it , and the chance to see Clive Owen in action as one of the assasins was the only thing that kept me going after the first 30 minutes or so . Made me wish Owen was tapped for the lead , would have been so much more effective , because somehow i never really bought Damon as some super spy , just like i didn't buy him as a potent gambler in whatever that film was called .
It had some moments , but not enough to keep my attention , and the fight scenes were seriously lacking , somewhat laughable if you ask me , even the Lola babe was wasted in Bourne , even though her english is great , with a cute as hell accent .
Now , in spite of that the sequel is looking nice , better than the first , so i'll give it a whirl .

Wow. That would have been so much cooler with Owen as Bourne.

Well, Franka is only in the very start of the trailer. Then, its all Matt Damon.
I bet she gets killed.

The first one was predictable and boring. The only reason to see the sequel is because Franka Potente is in it.
