according to coming soon sky captain and the world of tommorow has been pushed back three months. the new release date is september 17 2004. this really fucking sucks because i was really eager to see this in june. this was on my top ten list for the summer of 2004.

Since the movie is just about all CGI, they probably need more time to finish the F/X. I don't know about you, but I'd rather have good CGI than have them halfass it to meet a June release date.

Goddammit. I was looking forward to this too.
And they can kiss any financial potential goodbye.

Actually it was said that all of the CGI has been done for a very long time. I remember watching a cool show about it, where the director had done all of the CGI, and basically made the whole entire movie. Then he took the actors and did the scenes with them and easily inserted them into the already made scene. Its a great idea cause you can take all the time you want making it without the stress of actors till you need them.
So idk why they would push it back.

What's idk? If it's a typo, forvive me. Not trying to be a dick, but I've seen it before and have no clue what it means.

I'm guessing "idk" is short for "I don't know".
I have reservations about this. September is historically a burial ground for movies... not always, but lotsa times.
Why not push it all the way to the Christmas holiday season? There's alot more money to made there.
Oh well.
I'm hoping this isn't because they suddenly realized the story for SKY CAPTAIN isn't nearly as interesting as the special effects.
But Hollywood would NEVER make a movie like that, right?

Obviously Paramount have gotten major cold feet on this one - I see no other reason to bury it in September.
Such a shame - it really looked like something a bit different.
Now it'll never get a chance at real financial success.

Is it just me, or is Angelina Jolie real hot looking in this? even with the lack of clevage, or a TR bra enhancement. Plus, she has the very out of nowhere eyepatch, complete with black tights. i know this is kinda weird, but i would really like to take that eyepatch off and sku- .., oh wait, i better stop there.
As for the movie being delayed, thats most unfortunate. this and spidey 2 were basically all i was looking forward too. bummer.

I'm not sure this is a good idea. While Summer 2004 is crowded with several potential blockbusters and a guranteed blockbuster (Spider-Man 2), this was really the best time for Paramount to release a film like The World of Tomorrow if they wanted the film to make a good profit. Now that it's being pushed back to September, I cannot see this film making an adequate profit.

I wonder why they don't push it even further to December. No real competition then. Or maybe the film sucks (I hope not) and they think it's best to release it quietly and let it drop out quietly.

I don't know. Judging by the teaser trailer, the film looks like something different, possibly very entertaining, and a potential franchise. I'm not sure if the last one will happen, but we'll certainly see about the other two come September.
Damn! That sounds so far away. :D

So is February, but look at The Passion of the Christ.
But of course, this movie isn't going to be any POTC. It had a good chance to make some big bucks with its June release date (it would have made over $100 million easily), but now I think it'll have to have really good word of mouth to hit the $100 million mark. I see more around a $70 million finish, unfortunately.
This was one of the movies I was looking forward to a lot this summer, but now I have doubts about it, because the only reason I can think of that they pushed it back is that the studio realized it wasn't that good. I hope the studio is wrong though.

That's around the budget, so it won't be so bad.
February is a better month in box office than September. POTC was really a freak of nature, but it still has much more hits than September can dream of, and President's Day weekend is becoming a fairly big spot for films (Hannibal, Daredevil, 50 First Dates).

Pushing back a movie is almost always bad nowadays. A recent example is The Alamo. It promotes bad buzz and makes it look like there's something horribly wrong.
Titanic is a notable exception, of course.

well damn this will hurt my desire to see it, although Im with some of you in the fact that I want them to the best job they can......push backs just tend to be a buzz kill :(

Great idea, folks...I'm gonna be gone ALL summer, so this gives me a better chance to catch this baby on the big screen.
I'm still uber-psyched.

I agree. One old gas-fed properller plane taking on legions of space fighters? Puh-leeze! As cool as this movie looks visually, I see absolutely no room for actual story. Jolie looks like she's piloting a very short ship in the eyepatch, and this is essentially the classic early American hero comic- but it's played by nothing but non-American accents of all types trying desperately to not sound like their respective nations. Not cool.
"Kawling skye kapten. Kawling skye kapten." -not cool
I'm very much expecting this movie to be horribly boring because in the director's attempt to add "mood" they instead seemed to have just taken all the emotion out of what should have been a very very awesome movie.
