With movies similar like Final Destination for example..... Are we supersitious in everyday real life? What is seen in a movie is JUST A MOVIE but I do take certain things really serious......
-The number 13 by itself and buildings that skips 13. 14 deep down is still 13 no matter what.
-The number "6" in sets of 3's gets me uneased.
- Walking under ladders. I will purposely go around.

Yeah some horror movies can make me real superstitious. Horror movies have caused to me to be completely paronoid. Oh well.

I'm not superstitious, but I'm superstitious. To clarify, I don't believe that walking under a ladder will give me bad luck, but I would never walk under a ladder. I know it's a cop-out, and that I should stand by my convictions, but there's a chance, no matter how minute, that my crazy mother is right. She believes that if you tell someone about a nightmare that you had before you eat breakfast, it will come true!

This is a pretty interesting topic! I feel that most superstitions are based on a certain point of view, we all have beliefs whether they are relgious or spiritual in nature. Superstitions have been around for centuries, most are derived from a certain incident in human history that others have experienced or felt. I have read a few web sites on this topic!! I think that there are things in this world that are beyond mans comprehension. To deny the possibility of anything is pure ignorance in my book!
I beleive in supernatural forces that surround us and have had a facination of such things since I was a kid! Our attraction to horror films are a part of it. The dark side of nature and so on!!

Well, I am superstitious. I've seen too many things to not believe.
As for movies making us believe, no. Our experiences make us that way. Movies are just for entertainment. If it has the certain elements in it, it's just a script...

I don't think a movie can make you believe a superstition, but it can make you more aware of a superstition. Some superstitions I hadn't heard of previously I learned about in movies. If you are superstitious already, I think a movie can cement it in you.
As for walking under ladders, I don't do that anymore, primarily because something fell on me once (paint) when I did.

I'm not superstitious per se' but I also won't tempt the fates. I won't walk under ladders, and I make sure that no black cats cross my path.

I think that specifically, within the last 15 yrs or so yes there is much more of an influence due to the phenomena of the modern horror film on superstitions a/k/a folk legends and myths than ever before. That is to say, I don't think we as a culture and society are as naive or non-secular based about our assumptions to a fanatical degree nearly as much as we were at the turn of the century or into the 1950's. BUT, I do feel that we as a society are now more prone to gullibility in more readily available forms due to the phenomenon of mass media like the internet.
Horror movies and horror in general (news stories, myths, etc) are now more rampant than ever thru the increase of various media forms. More people hear about filtered-down stories than any Salem Witch incident and seem to be prone to believe it more.
I mean, really, how many more horror films have we been exposed to here because of our very association with this board? I mean I for one am really grateful for all the new stuff I've been exposed to over the last two years but, my gullibility (ooh is that a word??) hasn't increased because of it. I have , however, encountered and spoken to many younger people and naive soccer moms that accept so much bullshit as truth to due hearing about it on the internet. And what are they hearing about???
Horrible incidents in horror movies and believing them to be truth.
God, remember the whole Blair Witch promotional thing like a year before the movie came out? Examples like that.
