DONNIE DARKO. Can you believe I never got the chance to see it? I've been dying to see this movie since it was released in the US, but here it was never released. I "forgot" about it for a while, but now with this talk about it going theatrical again made me want to see the movie. The only way of that happening is if I import the DVD. But it's quite expensive so... IS IT WORTH IT?! Guys, I trust your opinion, uh?! I love the genre and I'm a pretty big fan of Drew and Jake. What do ya say?

Well, I`ve met a few people who didn`t like this movie (not on these boards), but on a sidenote: They were all stupid bastards, not because they didn`t like the movie, but they just were and for that reason I wouldn`t trust their opinion. Otherwis, almost everyone loves the movie, me included. I`d say it`s a safe buy, but well, tastes are different.

It's mainstream, thus, availible in most video joints. Rent it.

I'm neither a stupid bastard nor did I like DD. My advice would be the same as John Mullets. rent it and see if you like it. I rented it and didn't and thus got to spend the blind buy money on something i did enjoy...

An interesting movie by premise, but once you get underneath the surface you realise A) It's not all that intriging. B) It's downright stupid - don't get me wrong, stupid is fine IF it's funny OR gory OR both - this was neither. And C) You don't care what happens because it's not that interesting and it's stupid.
I'm only speaking for myself. I know alot of y'all like it. It just wasn't my cup of tea. You know why?...........I HATE TEA!!!!

I respect your opinion but 'stupid' is the last adjetive that springs to my head when talking DD.

I blind buy, but after researching the DVDs first. At least, that's how I got Aqua Teen Hunger Force Vol 1 and Space Ghost Coast To Coast Vol 1.

Oh yeah seriously I didn't want to offend anybody, but a man dressed in a bunny suit telling the main character when the world is going to end is the kind of thing I find stupid. But hey my best mate loves it!

Donnie Darko is a great movie IMO. Buy this at once! Or maybe even rent it first. This way your not wasting too much $$ if you end up not liking it. :)
Oh and BTW Morgan, the bunny was an important part of the story. He did more than jes' tell Donnie "when the world was going to end."

Yeah the ending of the world wasn't literal...and him being dressed as a bunny made a lot of sense if you watched the entire movie...

Uh, guys, I don't think you understood: I CAN'T rent the movie, there's nowhere here in Brazil where I can find it in a video store. And the DVD is pretty expensive to import. If it was that easy.... That's why I'm asking your opinion, and I trust you. As of now I'm think "What the hell, buy the damn thing".

Hey, if you end up not liking it, you could always sell it, right? OR you could give it to me and I'll sell it . . . . . and keep the money.

Donnie Darko's a great movie and widely appreciated...but I dont believe in blind buying ANYTHING unless it's cheap. You never know what you'll think. And to me selling is a pain in the ass

If you like the 80's and David Lynch I think this is the film for you.

Well that's not really blind buying is it? More like partially-blind buying. ;)

Yes I'm aware that the bunny was an important part of the story. Hence why I considered it to be stupid. The bunny, the bunny, the bunny - enough with the frickin' bunny already. Oh, I'm not having a go by the way, that's just what was going through my head at the time.
XPATRICKX -
I did watch the whole movie, and yeah the dude being dressed as a bunny did make, what you could call, 'sense' by the time the end of the movie arose. And yeah, everything added up - but I still think it was all very ridiculous.
*SPOILERS*
If it was his fate to die - surely God would send him other 'hidden' messages and hints to make him feel uneasy. (like FINAL DESTINATION). Not a bloody big bunny!
Don't get me wrong I'm not that is how it SHOULDN'T be, I'm just saying that if it was me I would've done it differently, and that particular approach didn't impress me.

I didn't care for DD. I'm not stupid either. It just didn't appeal to me. Actually, it bored me.

Good existential time travel flick..but rent it....why spend the money when they've announced a directors cut to hit the theaters..that will flesh out the charactors....and will eventually hit dvd?

The "big bunny" was the guy who is killed by Donnie.
He happened to be wearing a bunny costume when "it" happened.
That`s why HE was the messenger, he was one of the people who would`ve been most affected by Donnie`s fate.

the first time i saw this movie i only liked it.... but everytime i watch it it gets better and better.... i was die hard swayze fan in the 80s and early 90s, roadhouse is awesome, so having swayze play such a different character was awesome.... some great twists, and an ending that will leave ya thinking for along time to come.... i give it 4 out of 5 bong hits!!!!
