Well, what do you think?
I know they`re completely different from each other, I`m just comparing them because they`re the two most confusing series I could think of.

I`d say "Highlander".
With the "Phantasm" series, the surreal confusing stuff is sorta part of the appeal.
In the "Highlander" series, the confusion was a result of incompotent screenwriters and awful continuity. The 'rules' change completely from one movie to the next.

crappy sequel writing comes with pretty much every franchise, elgyn...

however, i didn't really enjoy phantasm...reggie was the saving grace of the series...

highlander at least had a bomb ass TV show in its honor (adrian paul is one hot boy!)

The highlander films only became confusing due to the sequels ignoring previous events. Phantasm movies are just naturally confusing.

Highlander is an awesome concept, but was screwed up by the films. The Highlander tv series was the shit, and kept track of itself.

Think of it as a massive worldwide Battle Royale that no one knows about, the only way to kill each other is by beheading, you can sense when another immortal is around, and you take his power when you kill your enemy.

But too many times the film tried to create "just one more immortal" acting like every film was for the gold medal, when the series actually showed there was quite a society of them, and others that were becoming immortals via destiny.

Phantasm is a lot more confusing than Highlander

Didn`t "Highlander II" claim that the Immortals were all aliens from another planet?

If theyd stuck to the idea behind the first Highlander film...then the whole thing would have been better.

When they added the stupid plot about the inmortals being from planet Zeist and all that bullshit...well then it all went to hell right there. So are all the other inmortals who are here on earth from planet zeist? Or where they "exiled" as explained in the "renegade version"? Arrrggh...confusing. But not purposely.

Its just that the people who wrote those films didnt know their heads from their asses thats all.

As for Phantasm, they may be confusing...but hey thats the way they were meant to be. They are purposely done that way. Its part of its charm. Part of its dream like atmosphere.

Not so with Highlander.

Haven't even seen the original HIGHLANDER. They don't really appeal to me. I've seen HIGHLANDER 3 - that was ok, and I saw soemthing nasty happen to JOHN C. MCGINLEY in HIGHLANDER 2 which made me want to watch on, but that's all.

Is HIGHLANDER worth watching?

Bearing in mind I hate SCI-FI. STAR TREK, STAR WARS - mostly shit in space etc doesn't appeal to me at all! It looks like a SCI-FI style film? Or am I way off?

P.S - I always used to get it confused with BLADERUNNER as a kid, which I also haven't seen for the above reasons. Is one more SCI-FI orientated than the other?

Hell yeah you should watch Highlander. Its not really a science fiction film perse, I would say it falls more under the fantasy category.

Now the first Highlander actually makes some sense, if they would have followed more the ideas that were presented on the first film, I believe the series could have been less confusing. Its a good film, well directed and well acted. Its one of those movies that makes you wonder, why if the director could make such a cool first part, why the hell couldnt he make an equally great sequel?

The first Highlander is more focused towards the final showdown between the last two inmmortals on earth. Because "there can be only one" the one to survive gets all these incredible powers. It shifts between flashbacks of Conor Mcloud in the times of the Highlanders and Connor McCloud in present day. Actually a preatty cool premise, that was completely fucked up by adding science fiction elements with the sequel.

Highlander 2: The Quickening is actually watchable if you ignore the confusing storyline and go with it. I enjoy some of the action pieces and the swordfights. If only the had not added that whole idea about the Immortals being from another planet the series would have been a lot cooler. Part 2s actually a preatty dark film, showcasing a grim future with no sun.

Blade Runners a fucking master piece man, I think that if your not much into sci-fi films you should watch it anyway. Its a science fiction film told in the old noir style of the detective film from the 50s. Its amazing in the visual department, this is no surprise since Ridley Scott directed it. Its a slow film, but has a great story and unbelievable visuals that still look great by todays standards. Its a dark grim future, but this is the film that started that whole "dark grim future" thing, many films after this one have imitated it in both look and feel. A timeless masterpiece not to be missed.

If your gonna watch Highlander 2 I suggest you try and find the Renegade version since it makes a bit more sense and it the better version. In this version the immortals aren't aliens.

What he said.
Though, personally, I always thought the movie was a tad overrated, it DID start the whole "gothic city" trend that followed into movies like "Batman" and "The Crow". [Though IMO "The Crow" is a much better movie all-around].

It`s a good movie - it`s not really too much sci-fi (not like "Star Trek" or anything). Just think of it as a detective story set in a futuristic city (basically like spacemonkey just said! ).
