I've quit buying movies now. They cost too much ($30 a dvd) and are really not worth it in the long run for me because I make so little money. Now I'm just gonna rent. I could rent 90 movies for around $180. To me that's the better deal.

Anyone else here not buy movies anymore?

I still buy movies I love, b/c I tend to get them for $8 to $12 a pop using ebay, used dvd stores, etc. For the record, the vast majority of people I know rarely buy dvds. However, I don't think you'll find a ton of them on this site.

I only ever buy the movies I absolutely must own. At the rate that I 'must own' DVD's, therefore, which I only properly began buying a year ago, I reckon I will have about 150-160 per year. I get mine in the sales, usually, which means that, on average, I will pay over £1000 on movies per year. I'm not much of a drinker, etc, so that seems a pretty good replacement. I just hope that I don't run out of movies I want to buy.

I love buying DVDs. Unlike renting, I'm guaranteed to be able to watch what I'm in the mood to watch.

As for the price, if you get the DVD the day it comes out it won't cost you $30. Most places usually have the price dropped down to 15 or 20 bucks.

I don't feel compelled to go out and get DVDs unless I get a gift certificate to Best Buy or something. I only have about 20 DVDs, half of them being gifts.

I have way to many and I am slowing down. I will still get the good, new releases (Big Fish and Last Samurai) and keep a eye out for good, used deals.

I don't ever buy movies for myself, I do for gifts if I know someone wants one, I have received some as gifts also. I hardly ever watch a movie twice, so why buy?

Well I take pride in my growing collection so I have not exactly quit buying DVDs, but what I have done is pretty much swear off new releases.

Unless it's a must own for me, I won't pay more than 15 or so dollars for it. Most of the dvds I buy range anywhere from 5-15 dollars. I only buy if I think it's a good deal really.

I'd say I've quit spending massive amounts of money on movies.

I rent more than I buy... rent like 20 on a good month, and only buy like 1 - 2 titles a month. Not due to lack of funds, just not many titles hold a rewatch value for me.

There was a time when I'd buy every movie I even half-way liked, but after discovering that I only watch the ones I REALLY LOVE, I've decided to only buy the ones that I REALLY LOVE. That means only 10/10's and strong 9/10's.

I always buy movies, new, used. I just like to have them in my collection. I buy up to 2-3 movies a week, depending on whats out, or how much money I have.

I use this little rule for myself....

First I'll rent it.

If later on I feel the need to see it again, I'll just go out and buy it. Usually by that time it will have gone down in price at the store or I can find it used somewhere.

I haven't bought a DVD in some time. It's all because of Netflix, too. If I absolutely want to see a particular movie again, instead of buying it, I can usually wait 3 days for it to arrive from the 'Flix. I haven't bought tons of movies because of this. If I want to see Midnight Cowboy again (9/10, so I wouldn't mind buying it), I just Netflix it, and there ya are.

I buy dvds every so often. The more the better.

I never buy movies. I usually just watch them on the dish. If it's a movie I really like I may tape it.

Pretty much all of ther DVD's and films that I own were given to me as gifts. Heck I don't even have a DVD player - I just hook up my laptop to my TV when ever I want to watch a DVD.

I buy movies that I like a lot. But considering that I am only 16 and still don't have a job, I don't get very many. But eBay is a big help!

... Damn me and my lazy/poor-ness...

I also buy only the movies that I'm in love with. I've had my player for about 4 yrs, and I only have about 30.

$30 a dvd! That is outrageous. I spend $15 max on brand new movies. 1 word, ebay.

Well, it doesn't help being a DVD addict, but when I do buy them, I always shop for the best deals and what not...

but hey, if you can afford it, why not?

So no, I always buy dvds. I haven't been buying as many as I used to, but I figure that's a good thing...(ever since I joined Netflix!)

I rent from netflix but keep buying. For one thing rental dvds can give you problems. I also like having a large collection to sift through for rewatch value. I also rewatch the extras and not just the films. There's a certain sense of pride to be felt in owning one and not just having it out on loan.

As for the price deal....I dont think Ive ever spent 30 on one dvd. Ive bought box sets but they dont count ;) You can get great deals elsewhere

I still buy loads of DVD's just because I work at Suncoast so it is more conveniant, but if i can't find a DVD there that i'm looking for then i also go on to Netflix, and i also rent tons of movies from Netflix as well too, it's cool.
