I was over at www.horrordvds.com and found out this very bad news
Friday Box Specs Posted by Rhett on Saturday, April 24 2004 2:52 PM
DVD File owner, Peter Bracke, has been dropping nuggets of information about the upcoming Friday the 13th box set due this fall. Those expecting special editions and director's cuts of each film like Paramount did with the Star Trek serious will be sadly disappointed. None of the films will be presented uncut, and supplements will only be added to selected films and the bonus disc. The set will be broken down into 5 discs, with 2 films on each disc (one on each side) and a fifth bonus disc. Here is a breakdown of the supplements currently known today:
Film Extras:
Commentary on Part 3 with the cast, including Richard Brooker, Paul Kratka, Larry Zerner and Dana Kimmell
Commentary on Part 6 with director Tom McLoughlin
Commentary on Part 7
Commentary on Part 8
Bonus Disc:
Uncut footage for Parts 1, 6 and 7
TV footage of Part 4
New featurettes with interviews from the Fangoria Friday the 13th reunion last year, as well as Sean Cunningham, Joseph Zito, Tom McLoughlin, John Carl Buechler, Rob Hedden and Tom Savini
Total supplements will run over 3 hours
The specs are still far from official, but it sounds like this is all she wrote
OK WHO IS WITH ME, LETS BOYCOTT paramount and not buy this bullshit boxset and remebr to get as many people as possible to do the same and so on and so on, what do u guys think

Thats paramount for ya'!!!  So customer friendly!! They screwed us on the "My Bloody Valentine" DVD NOT EVEN A LOUSY TRAILER!! Not even an attempt to issue the UN-CUT version!!!  I guess the paying Horror fans satisfaction isn't PARAMOUNT with the corporate suits!

Somehow I doubt horror fans will stick to this boycott. If hanging around horror boards has taught me anything, most horror fans are total pussies.
How many people here have the minerals to stick to a boycott? Not many, I'd warrent. Remember the anger over the remakes of Dawn and TCM? All the morons going "I'm disgusted they're remaking this, but I'll see it anyway."
Stick up for yourself. If the bigwigs try and fuck you over then don't just crumple like little babies, offering only the explanation "I can't blow off a horror movie." Stick it to the company. If you don't like what they're doing, boycott!

i knew this would happen, i hate Paramount
i suppose ill have to get the current discs of 2-8 so i can have the lot on 8 shiny discs instead of 4
christ, doesnt paramount realise that if they make an excellent box set of all 8 uncut films they could get a shit load of money instead of constantly disappointing

I dont think pussy is the right word. I'd say it's more loyalty to the genre. People see it as 'the more money this makes the more horror related things will be released.' That's true, so I do hope people buy this thing and go see the crappy movies in the theatres. I know I never saw dawn or tcm remakes(until a friend brought the dvd over.) And I know I wont have the cash to drop on this...especially without any good features or uncuts.

This really sucks. I say we should boycott it. Then the dvd won't make any money and then finally Paramount will either release a better edition or sell the rights to a better company like New Line.

This totally SUCKS!! Fuck you Paramount, fuck you! Is it so hard to feature the "Friday The 13th" films UNCUT in their entirety in the films, and not as bonus crap? I hate when studios do that! All I really want of this boxset is to see all 8 films uncut in all their glory, and Paramount can't even do that. I don't care that their will only 5 disks and that promised extras won't be happening. They really have no idea what kind of a gold mine they're sitting on with all this material and all they are doing is pissing on it. Damn you, Paramount, I place a curse on you!

For two years I have awaited this god-damn thing! And for the last 2-4 months I have actually been excited to get the fucking things in my collection, I held off, but now; I think those $13 piece of shit ones (at Best Buy, and many other places, but $13 at Best Buy) will surpass this by FAR!

Paramount always finds new distinct ways to make me hate them even more than I originally did. THis box set was going to redeem them a little in my eyes and now that's flushed down the crapper.

It just defies reason why they've done that, considering the sheer volume of sales they would have achieved had they released all films uncut in the boxset.
I definately will not be buying it.

It wasn't hard to find its website, www.paramountpictures.com. We could register and e-mail them about the boxset (and curse them off for being bastards and all that), it could be featured in a newsletter or something. We could also write to them at:
Paramount Pictures
5555 Melrose Avenue
Hollywood, CA 90038
223.956.5000
And also, write to their Motion Pictures section and/or Home Entertainment section, and not the Paramount Television section.
I suggest we all e-mail and write to Paramount about the F13 boxset. We could all do it together! We'd be an Army! "Don't fuck up our F13 boxsets, you filthy bastards!"

Another reason why I hate Paramount, and I'm not even a big fan of the series. They always skimp out on DVD releases and their movies suck on a consistent basis. And they own MTV and Nickelodeon.
Paramount...

Bad News: We have to wait even longer for the unrated versions.
Good News: I already own all of them on DVD so I won't have to shell out more money for the boxset to get the unrated ones!

While I may not agree with many remakes I still intend to see them. I like to review films and try to see as many as possible, as well as giving them a slight chance. I'm just curious as well. I don't think this considers me weak though :) Just ravenously curious.
As for the paramount box set, it sure is shitty news if this is indeed all true. Some sources have said 7 and nanother will have added footage. I wont boycott the set though because Id rather have it than not. Its better than nothing in my book.
But I also dont have any of the dvds yet. If I already had them I wouldnt be buying this. I have avoided buying the others all this time to save up for an eventual boxset :(
Besides if the set doesnt make as much money Paramount would figure they were right in the first place in taking so long to even release it.

I'm really disappointed with this news...
I was REALLY looking forward to this boxset, but if they can't try, why should I?
For those emailing Paramount, remember a couple things: don't add the word "fuck" in every sentence. Don't threaten them physically or threaten to eat their children.
Inform them you are a consumer and explain why you are dissatisfied. Explain to them how many DVD's you buy. A well thought out email/letter that let's them know you, as a CUSTOMER, are dissatisfied will be taken more seriously then a ranting and raving letter written in blue crayon and/or blood.

hmmmmm......
"Total supplements will run over 3 hours"
Come on people, we aint going to get what we want here but look at the good. We are getting more F13 than we ever have before.
Would I like to see parts 1-8 "uncut" on 15 discs with alternative tracks and eggs and oroginal art and blah? You bet your arse, but knowing what we know about Paramount its pretty useless to bitch. They are atleast doing something and we shouldnt be surprised. And untill I have that set in my hands I will hold all judgement because at least they arent throwing the series together and putting nothing else out.

Its not a goldmine when you are talking how much money it would cost.
Is the Nightmare box set great? Yes, but we are only talking about one movie there that was in demand (part 5) and we didnt get that.
It is impossible to reach expectations with this thing. Bottom line is we will never get what we want because its not reality.
The uncut Friday films will remain a myth. One created by the MPAA and us.

I think you're missing the point, Haddonfield. I know you're not a fan of the Friday series, but there's so much stuff out there on the series, and Paramount is definitely omitting stuff. Like I've said before: Paramount caters to Paramount only, which is basically Star Trek.

This really sucks. I mean, through the miracle of DVD's we get a lot unrated versions of obscure horror films, but as far the F13's are concerned, noooooooooo! The F13 series were the films that marked serious gore in horror movies in 80's. That original F13 is the movie a lot of gore directors tried to outgore. And so many of those gore films are available uncut. But, the F13s? No, we can screw them! God, I'm really hating Paramount right now. It's obvious that the success of FvJ marked Paramount's reasoning for the F13 boxset. It's also obvious that they still really aren't following the wishes of the fans, THE people that care about these movies and saw them in the theaters in the 80's. And, there's a lot of fans out there, that aren't just a minority. Heck an unrated F13 boxset could even spark the interests of uniniated viewers. Paramount, I hope you're listening to me. Release the F13 boxset with the uncut footage in the damn films! That's all we really want!

When The NOES DVD Collection first came out it cost around $110.00.
The Friday Set shouldn't go for more than $50.00. Less dvd's, less box art, less work..ect.

I think the Nightmare set is the BEST horror DVD set out today!!!!!
Or Maybe even the BEST DVD SET of all.
It's hard seeing my self paying more than
$40.00 for the Friday 13th set.
They could have aleast put one movie per dvd instead having a double side dvds.
thebloodfeaster
05-05-2004, 02:50 AM
There are really only two things that piss me off with this. One is the double sided discs so they can cram 2 movies together; but more importantly... why the hell do are they keeping the uncut footage of 1, 6, and 7 seperated? They obviously have it if they're putting it on the bonus disc. There is absolutely no excuse for not putting it in the movies themselves.

You would have better luck winning the lottery. This is Paramount, the studio known for the most asinine prices out there for giving you less.
I think they will slap an $89.95 or up price tag on this sucker. Now, that would be fine and dandy for me if it was some great set like the Aliens set for example.
I would pay very well for a limited edition set of uncut films and a great set. But, thats me.
Haddonfield,
3 hours of extras means nothing if they are either fluff or suck. Many DVD's have tons of extras that basically just suck and are useless. I would rather have 1 hour of the best extras ever than 100 hours of shitty ones.
Not saying these will be shitty, but it's a possibility.

Hate to burst your bubble, but Warner Bros. would actually do better.
They are the ones who released the first movie uncut in regions 2-4. They would have released the others uncut overseas as well, but dont have the rights.
They also own New Line.
Check out The Lost Boys Double Disc Edition that Warners is putting out. Much better sounding than the Friday set and it's only for one movie.

First off, The Lost Boys SE is just one movie. Warner is just as bad as Paramount for putting out bare bones DVDs, or DVDs filled with lackluster extras that no one wants. Plus, Warner still uses those damn clamshell cases. Just because Warner owns New Line doesn't mean that Warner is automatically one of the best company for DVDs, New Line is.

Warner Brothers used to be bad, yes. But they have gotten so much better.
It's not only one movie.
They are releasing about 30 double disc sets this year. Horror isnt the only genre you know.
Although I still cant figure out why the crappy Shining made for tv remake is getting a double disc, but some of their classics didnt?
Also, I didnt say Warners was one of the best. But, they are way better than Paramount. Warner believes in restoration and has restored many films.
Paramount wont even restore the first 2 Godfather films.
Yes, Warner would do much better with the F13 set. If nothing else, they would have at least restored the films.

Prepare to be unhappy. Lol. They didnt even release I Love Lucy Season 1 for below $100 at the beginning and thats only a tv show.
The Godfather set is 80, and thats only 3 films. Their original Star Trek seasons are $250 for all the discs per season. Their other Star Trek series are all over $100 per season.
$89.95 is what I think for 5 discs. If they go back to a 9 disc format after all the bitching to add the uncut films or more stuff, it will be even more.
If this was some spectacular set, I wouldnt care about paying a couple hundred. But, thats me.
I think they should only release this as a limited edition press of 5000 copies or so. That way the set would never loose it's value because it would become rare.

Not even that it seems.
They refused to restore a directors cut of a film even though William Shatner wanted it as did the entire fanbase mostly.
They rip off the Star Trek fanbase horribly, much more so than the other fanbases because they know they can.
Star Trek Seasons (the originals series) cost $250 each by the time you get the discs and are barebones. Just the episodes, nothing more.
