My parents have laid out rules for me and one of them is "Watching and reading horror related material is forbidden". So, I won't be posting in this forum much anymore.
It was good to know you folks. Hopefully I'll see you on some of the other forums on this site.

Ah hell you aint going nowhere. Your parents will probably drop that rule soon because my parents pulled the same thing on me a few years ago. "No more violent movies" It worked for a week then they forgot about it. Dont worry man just work on um, they'll give in.

According to your profile your over 20! Your parents should have NO say in what you watch. They are mainly R rated (or 18s) which means your above that age.
What brought this on?

What brought it on is that they think horror will warp me into a serial killer.

I hate it when parents are like that. Thank god my parents are never like that.
How old are you anyhow and do you have a job or something. How can they not allow you to use the internet?

Don't worry, when something is forbidden it makes it more exciting ;)

I'm allowed to use the internet. I just can't watch or read anything horror related.
I just turned 22 years old this month and I don't have a job. I do have an income though, I'm on disability for Tourette Syndrome. I pay rent here.
If I wanted to move out I probably couldn't. My vocal tics are so loud that I would be evicted from an apartment after a short while.
Living with no horror is what I must do. It's going to really suck because it's my favorite genre but there is nothing I can do about it.
Another rule they made was that I'm not allowed to drink alcohol anymore. 22 and no booze!

22, and your parents are deciding what movies you can watch? Something isn't right there dude, and if you need my advice, get the fuck out of that house, god forbid you want to do something serious like move out, bring a girl over to the house, etc., how can you expect them to be cool with REAL matters, not horror fucking movies?

I don't have to worry about bringing girls over to the house because... well... I don't like girls.
Like I said, I really have nowhere else to go. The worst thing is that the last horror film I watched was S.I.C.K.. Talk about going out a bad note.
Considering I leave my house very rarely (only to rent movies or buy a book) I'll probably go nuts from not having anything to do. Either my interests will expand onto something else or I'll end up slitting my wrists. Either way I won't have to worry about horror anymore.

Wow, that's fucking sad! Torrettes or not, your're 22 and are old and mature enough to make those decsions for your self. I've been watching 18 rated stuff since about, hmmm, 12! Am i a serial killer? no! I've been drinking properly since about 13, any thing wrong with me? no!
I suggest you get a life, move out or kill your parents. Poison them or something...

Again, I want to express a hell of a lot of sympathy for your situation, saruman (not just the horror movie ban). I know my saying that's probably a little annoying (I'm not looking down on you or anything), but . . . well, after reading through this I just felt it justified.
So a big :( to you.
That said, it's not all bad. If you like movies like Donnie Darko and Butterfly Effect that can be disguised as "non-horror" (they're, uh . . . suspense thrillers!), then you still get a good 60% of quality horror.

You probably shouldn't kill yourself. There are plenty of good reasons why you should be able to watch or do whatever you like so I'm sure you can outsmart your parents.
