I`ve been scanning through the Hammer movies on the catalogue of the internet shop I buy my movies from and noticed that though many low-budget american horror movies have better editions than in the States, the pride of Brittish horror cinema, Hammer, has no really great editions. Yes, I have found some movies that have a somewhat nice extras list, but most of them only carry a trailer and nothing more. Even now, some new editions are coming out, with really great cover art, like this:

, but have nothing on them. What`s up with that?

Probably just a bunch of cheap good for nothing dvd companies.

Because they're all shit and about as scary as watching KEENAN AND KEL. The companies probably didn't even think anybody would want to buy the Dvd's so put out blatant bare bones editions. All I can say is thank god for the slasher craze of the late 70's/early 80's. If all horror movies were like those awful CHRISTOPHER LEE DRACULA bobbins, then I might have never found a love for the genre. And yes, I'm British, so y'all think I should be proud of these creations. But give me HELLRAISER and LONG TIME DEAD as my examples of good British horror anyday.
P.S. - This is only my opinion. It's cool if anyone likes these movies. I guess they could probably be fun after a few beers.:p

Well, to each his own. I`ve only seen a couple of Hammer horror movies and I just love the old horror aura of them. And I think slasher subgenre is next to the animal horror the worst horror subgenre, but to each his own.

How many Anchor Bay Hammer PAL DVDs are there anyhow? Because from the region 2 DVDs I`ve found, I believe none of them were Anchor Bay.

Well, I checked through most of these titles and didn`t find any of them to be on Anchor Bay DVDs in Region 2. Too bad, because I can only watch PAL DVDs (region doesn`t matter)

At least the Brits have an Amicus box set. There are next to no Amicus films on DVD here in the states. I've had to settle for washed-out videotapes to gorge myself on Tales From the Crypt and The Skull. The House That Dripped Blood recently hit DVD, so perhaps things are looking up. We're definitely spoiled when it comes to Hammer.
