Who do you think was the best Batman and why?

Who looked the part the most?

I would have to say Michael Keaton was the best thus far in terms of looks, attitude and carrying the character but I'm looking for Christian Bale to really step up and surpass Keaton in the next Batman.

Me too. I really think Keaton has been the best, but I'm waiting to be impressed by Bale. I love that "You wanna get nuts? COME ON, LETS GET NUTS!" by Keaton. I love that scene.

Keaton by far! Nobody comes close although Kilmer was pretty good and, to George Clooney's credit, he did the best possible job any actor could have done given the material he was given to work with.

Like I said before, I'm not a fan of Christian Bale, but I am a fan of Christopher Nolan and trust in his ability to deliver. So I'm willing to give him a chance.

Keaton gave the best performance so far, again I am hoping for Bale to be great.

Keaton no question. I think Kilmer did a good job also. He's a good actor. But Keaton was the best Batman. Gotta watch out though. Bale is a terrific actor. Loved his acting in Equilibrium.

lol no comment on Clooney.

Although I can't back it up yet, I think Bale could be the perfect Batman. I mean, this guy could look dark and brooding on a ferris wheel with a hawaiin shirt and an ice-cream cone. Something I read today that stood out to me was the difference between Batman and other super-heroes -- Most super-heroes are people hiding their super identity, but Batman is a superhero hiding the fact that he actually is human.

Keaton just isn't dark enough. His movies were great, but I just can't accept him as a symbol of intimidation.

I totally agree. I think Bale will be the best Batman. Right now it's Keaton, but not for long....

Also, I think Keaton made the best Batman because he was playing off of the best villian. Nickelson ruled as the Joker, and made Keaton look better. The other Batmans didn't have as high if quality villain to play against. Can Ken Wantanabe and Cillian Murphy do as admirable and respectable job as Jack Nickelson? I doubt it, but I'm hoping they do well. The hero is only as good as the villain is bad. Am I making sense?

I think the point your trying to make is that villains need to be better than the hero. If there's no challenge, what's the point. Two Face, The Riddler, Poison Ivy, Mr. Freeze... They're all a bunch of losers in the movies. The Joker was actually intimidating.

Keaton, then Kilmer, then Cloony, then West.

Bale will soon be the best.

Michael Keaton, no question.

I have great hopes for Bale, as thus far, I've only really liked one Batman movie (it came first), and I am convinced in my shrivelled, cold, lawyers heart that Bale could really do it a power of good.

God I hope so...

I am one in the few who think Keaton was barely beaten out a tidge by Kilmer. Just barely. I loved Kilmer's subtlety, he seemed disturbed, and yet kicked ass, was the master of Wayne Manor, yet, Alfred kicked his ass... (not literally).

1. Kilmer
2. Keaton

The rest never even felt like Batman to me, not even Adam West.
I am looking forward to Bale, I am a huge fan of him!

There was one thing Adam West had over all the other Batmen... TAFFY. And he's a Batman that LOVES his taffy. Mmmm.

Haha. Man, any time is a good time for a Family Guy reference.

val kilmer. he was perfect as both the dark knight and bruce wayne. i love the scene where he takes out twoface's goons during the circus scene. that was a classic wayne moment.
