This one's a riot. An obvious cash-in on the King Kong remake, The Mighty Peking Man weaves a cerebral, high-brow tale of a gargantuan ape who is seized from his natural habit and speedily exploited in the big city. The most original plot of all time. Ever. The lovey-dovey subplot involving a libidinous jungle goddess and a goofy Asian guy is heart-wrenching, the miniatures are oh so convincing, and the script is divested of any lapses in logic. Or...it's a laugh-a-minute b-classic that is impossible not to enjoy on some level. There's so much senseless action, that you almost become numb to it. I do feel that the filmmakers should have coveted an R rating (so many nude scenes, so little nudity; how in the hell does that work?!?), but that's a petty protest. Schlock hounds take note!

Was it Quentin Tarantino that was backing up the distribution for this movie a couple of years ago? I think this was it though Im not completely sure...sounds like fun.

In the same vein of the old Mighty Joe Young, in other words, a rip off of King kong.

Yep. It doesn't bear any resemblance to Star Wars, so I'm not sure which film you're thinking of.

It was, in fact, distributed by Tarantino's Rolling Thunder Pictures. The company doesn't exist anymore to my knowledge.

Mighty Joe Young may have been a riff on Kong, but the original is an excellent film. I can't vouch for Disney's revamp, but if you've yet to see Joe, do so without delay.
