This one's a riot. An obvious cash-in on the King Kong remake, The Mighty Peking Man weaves a cerebral, high-brow tale of a gargantuan ape who is seized from his natural habit and speedily exploited in the big city. The most original plot of all time. Ever. The lovey-dovey subplot involving a libidinous jungle goddess and a goofy Asian guy is heart-wrenching, the miniatures are oh so convincing, and the script is divested of any lapses in logic. Or...it's a laugh-a-minute b-classic that is impossible not to enjoy on some level. There's so much senseless action, that you almost become numb to it. I do feel that the filmmakers should have coveted an R rating (so many nude scenes, so little nudity; how in the hell does that work?!?), but that's a petty protest. Schlock hounds take note!
