Anyway, post your weekend predictions for Van Helsing!
I predict $68.1 million.

I'm giving Helsing a good $60 million opening. Possibly $200 million finish.

VAN HELSING will easily finish with over $100 mil, but I see it opening at around $45-$50 million, near to what the 1999 version of THE MUMMY raked in opening weekend.

Why on earth do you people have Scooby Doo 2 in a list of horror flicks and among the likes of Dawn of the Dead, etc.? lol.

I'm surprised Dreamcatcher made any money at all considering. The worst King adaptation to hit, unfortunately, the big-screen.
Scooby Doo?, hardly horror is it.

Great Thread! As for Scooby Doo 2, just because a movie is horrible doesn't make it horror.

My best guess is that SCOOBY-DOO 2 got shuffled into a horror category because it has ghosts, monsters, and the like. So it's pretty much horror in that respect alone.

Scary Movie 3 isn't horror either . The script , the jokes , the performances , the direction , the lighting , the cinematography , the sound design , the slapstick humor , the rap sequence , the amount of money it made is scary , but it's not at all a horror film , i don't even think you can it a comedy , didn't laugh once .
Butt Effect , that's sci fi / thriller / drama , wouldn't put that in the horror category either . Although seeing AK cry is pretty scary , and creepy .

I don't get the terms . . . can someone explain me when someone considers a movie "a hit", "a sleeper hit", "a _ _ _ hit".
Adam J. Hakari
05-21-2004, 12:09 PM
Well, a sleeper hit would be a picture that either opened small or wasn't expected to do well, but it gained enough notice and made more money than most thought it would.

With these legs, maybe minorly in the states, but with the sweep it's making overseas, and then tie-ins and video, I think it will be in the black eventually.

Not like it would matter now, but $160 million.
I am bumping this, as The Village is coming in less than week. Almost two months without horror, and now three horror movies in one month (Village, AvP, Exorcist 0).

Wasn't RE 2 pushed back to Oct 1st , now the official site has it listed for Sept 10th again , man they are killing me , stop changing it already . That's a good thing though , and not just because i don't want to wait until Oct to see it , but also because the competition will be less , until the following weekend when Shaun of the Dead and Saw are released .

The Village is going to do VERY well Lyrik! Definately. My friends and I went out to see it last night and it was all sold out at two theaters. I'm guessing at least $42 Mil. by Sunday.

Wow, What a big opening number for the Village. Unfortunately,Ive heard much dissappointment in this film. I bet the 2nd week numbers drop dramamtically. Also, Would someone tell M.Night Shamalama-Ding-Dong to stop appearing IN his films. Doesnt this dude look like such a geek? Lol. He looks like a med school student who works at the 7-11 at nights or something.

Ouch for The Village. It dropped Hulk-style (-67.5%) this weekend, with $16,468,564 made between Friday and Sunday. While it still has over $85.6 million in ten days, these kind of legs are very detrimental. Updated comparison coming tonight.
