I'm talking both opening weekend and total domestic gross.

If so, will it?

Spider-Man 2 will be huge for sure, but I don't think it will do quite as well as the first one.

That is the sound of the Box office exploding after opening weekend.

It will out gross ROTK---

I kid. What I really want to see is how it stacks against Shrek 2 in dollars. I remember Shrek came out of nowhere that summer and raked it in big time. And although they have successfully killed and beaten the dead horse by using that smashmouth song, the movie still has cameron diaz and eddie murphy at his funniest.

AND kids can see it too.

lots of kids--not just those 13 and above.

Still think Van Helsing will van stink.

I await the return of Wolverine eagerly.

The studio must believe it will, since they are spending 200 mil on it.

I think it'll probably top out at the same level :)

Hmm...possible, but the summer is getting kind of crowded, and the original Spidey was quite a phenominon, it'd be a bit difficult.

$360 million is assured. Past the original? A bit iffy. If they are really spending $100 million on domestic marketing, then almost certainly.

I think it will make pretty much the same as part 1 made.

I think that it will make more than the original.
Because its being heavily marketed, it seems everywhere I look there is some promotional thing for Spiderman 2.

I see the new film totally outdoing the last one. With better reviews and more fans from the last film. Spider-Man 2 will be hard to beat!

I don't know if it'll beat the total of the the original, but I think It'll beat the opening weekend.

I'm figuring the total will be about the same, maybe a few notches higher, but nothing is ever certain!

However, I think the opening weekend will be lower than it was for the first one, simply because the first one came out at a different time of year. People have more family get-togethers, vacations, etc. and things like that in July than they do in May. So while a reviewing freak like myself would prioritize seeing it ASAP, I know most people won't do the same. However I'm sure most of them will eventually get around to seeing it.

It will easily top the first. If Shrek 2 can outgross Shrek by over 100 million dollars Spide-Man 2 should outgross Spider-man

A week ago I didn't think so.

I thought the reason for the huge success of the first one was because it was the first major blockbuster after 9/11 and America needed heros again. Though after watching the second one, I think it would definately outgross the first purely because it is a much better film. Film critics and word of mouth have more power than you might think.

Considering that it made $40.5 million on its opening day (the largest opening in history), it pretty much a given that it will out-gross the first film.

Cant agree with you more.

This film should not only go down in history as the greatest comic movie ever but should outgross the first one without blinking.

The film is too good to not destroy records. Hats off to everyone who made this movie.
