DEMONS/DEMONS 2/THE CHURCH

I got the dvds today. I seen DEMONS have not seen DEMONS 2 or THE CHURCH. Is chuch aka DEMONS 3? how good are these movies?

i think the Church is the unnoficial Demons 3 and the official Demons 3 is The Ogre

I think there are three different films that have been tagged as "Demons 3" at one point or another – The Church, Demons III: The Ogre (which is currently the "official" third installment), and Black Demons. To answer your second question, The Church is mediocre, as is Demons 2. They're both your typical Italian genre offering. Indecipherable, poorly written, and fairly bloody.

Even if the some of the special effects in Demons 3: The Ogre sucked, I still take it over any other of the pieces of dreck wanting to be Demons 3 even if they are much closer to the feel of the original. Hell, I even hated Demons 2 with a passion.

as Count said, The Church is pretty ho-hum. I've got a cut version -from an old vhs. I dont know if there is an uncut version. This thing runs for about EIGHT YEARS- but the gore is still pretty cool.

I'd imagine a nice transfer would be pretty enough to hold anyone's attention.

I don`t understand all the hate for "The Church"! I thought it was pretty creepy and impressive! Remember the woman getting hit by the subway car? The mass of writhing bodies at the end? And a bunch of kids died too! And it has a young cute-as-a-button Asia Argento!

In fact, I like "The Church" more than the first "Demons"! That`s right, I said it and I`ll stick by it!

It's not that I hated The Church. I completely dug the first half. But then the second half came along, trying to imitate the original Demons instead of trying to be its' own film and it did not gel with me. And they never really explain what the fuck was going on in that film which pissed me off. All I knew was that there was this tomb that when it was opened, made a whole bunch of fucked up stuff happen.

But the mass writhing bodies at the end was awesome.

Demons 1 and 2 are cool cheese-fests. The Church was a decent film, mainly because of the good visuals. It went on far too long though.

Do not hesitate with Demons 2, it is like Die Hard with demons.
A fun and entertaining demon flick, for sure !
The soundtrack is also very good, very 80's !

Demons 1 and 2 - Amazing , two of the best 'Zombie " films ever made . Forget Diehard , D 2 preceded it by almost 2 years , so Diehard is like D 2 with terrorists instead of Demons .


The Church - not a sequel but maybe a side story , or even a prequel to the Demons series . It has a much slower pace , but is very effective because of the ominous , surreal atmosphere on display , and the great visuals ( i like the endless void that's discovered in the basement ) . There is an uncut version that i still haven't seen , may be even better than the one i've seen so far .

Demons 3 : The Ogre - wow , what a waste this film was . It has nothing at all to do with either D1/ D2 or The Church , it doesn't even work as a side story . Hard to believe Lamberto Bava who directed the first two Demon films is responsable for this turd . Nothing is worth mentioning in this film , it fails on every level , doesn't deserve the Demon title .


Black Demons - never saw it , but will soon .

The Church has a definite Argento feel, even though Argento didn't do it (I don't think so, anyway). I have this dvd, and it has some pretty cool visuals and gore (subway scene, folks?), but a very loose storyline that isn't developed which makes it kind of muddy to follow if you like a plot. Some images will stick with you. A good view.

No , i think La Setta is , also known as The Sect . The Church is considered Demons 3 .

By the way , i felt The Sect was horrendous , not even good in a bad way , godawful . Other than that , i don't think Michele Soavi has missed with any of his other directorial efforts .

Oh yeah THE SECT!! My bad, that's the one i meant. I always believed that THE CHURCH was DEMONS 3 and THE SECT was DEMONS 4. But then THE OGRE came out and I got damn well confused!!! :rolleyes:

The Ogre is also considered Demons 3 , officially ( it's on the DVD cover ) , but The Church is aka Demons 3 , nowhere on the Reg 1 release is D 3 mentioned , unless i missed something .


I consider The Church the real D3 because it is more closely related to the other two films , The Ogre has nothing at all to do with them , only the same director , it was an idiotic idea to call it that .

P.S - Why didn't they just do a FRIDAY THE 13th and give them like sub - titles: DEMONS, DEMONS 2, DEMONS 3: THE CHURCH and DEMONS 4: THE SECT?

There is no official Demons 4 in America. We'll just have to wait until a DVD company releases a film and decides to call it Demons 4.

Hey, I'm with you, Elgyn! I liked The Church alot more than Demons which I thought was just ok. Has anybody here actually seen Black Demons? What's that one about?

didn't check out the church, but the first 2 demons were slick and fun... brainless, and basically the same movies rehashed in different settings, but you can't get too far involved with that type of shit in this genre if you ask me...i dug demons 2 the best.

The Sect is a good movie but not for every-one because it is a really weird movie but it has atmosphere and style.
7/10 for The Sect, do not expect a lot of gore it is all about atmosphere and style, like these blue filters !

Zombie slaves! I would have purchased it by now, but I'm not guaranteed to enjoy it and the price tag is unmerited. Actually, I'm just cheap, but it sounds better to say that it's out of my price range. I can't find it to rent.

I can identify with this. Little money, too many ways to spend it.

Anyway, Lamberto Bava is supposedly a capable director, and these sound more linear Italian films that don't toss in every freaking neat idea that comes into their heads... they sound neat.

I have seen the Church DVD around everywhere, but for twenty bucks...Ooooh. A little too rich for my blood.

I got mine for ten bucks at frys. I will watch DEMONS 2 and THE CHURCH today after work.
