If you know from the past, you know that I absoutly detest this film, but one thing that always intrigued me was it's cover, particulary that creepy face. I'd always wondered, was this suppose to be the face of Michael Myers behind the mask? Was it done on purpose to make an audience who looked at the Halloween 3 posters in the theatres anticipate that Michael is coming back again? If not, than who's face is it, really? This always intrigued me and I would love for somebody to tell me. Thanks.

I really don't think it was intended to look like or actually be MICHAEL MYERS because it is a totally different story. But with Hollywood trying to cash in all the time, we could certainly be forgiven for thinking this was the case!
(spoilers)
Personally, the face reminds me of the woman who gets killed in her hotel room (Marge?). She finds a silver shamrock badge that drops off one of the masks, and begins pin pricking it. A bluish laser shoots off into her mouth and fucks her up royally!! She looks like a minging witch if you get the uncut version, and see her face afterwards! :D

i don't think its supposed to signify anything Myers...they wanted to start a new era in the series, so bringing in the old with an attempt at new wouldn't be smart.

THEBOSS-
Hehe! Yeah I love all that gory shit! And that is one of the reasons why I would've thought more people would like this film, because it does have some nasty shit in it!! The snakes coming out of the kids head etc!!! LOVELY!!!!! :D

I thought the face was just supposed to show what happens when the masks "get" you.

I just thought it was an evil face for design. No backstory or meaning but just a cool design.

Yeah, it's just a random "scary" image. The latest cover art is slick, but I'm not crazy about the title's font.

Maybe it was the evil face of the old fart dude who ran the town and factory.
I liked this movie, I liked the concept of Carpenter coming out with a new story every Halloween he really did have a great idea but sadly everyone wanted Michael Myers in every damn thing. If the majority had accepted his Halloween story once a year thing I wonder what other movies he would have given us.

Surely something better than what we've had to settle for. Carpenter should have never went ahead with Halloween II.

At one point I thought the face was Dan O' Herlihy's character Conal Cochran, I can sort of see the cheekbone resemblance.

I'm sure I've mentioned this before, but around about October 1998 (when HALLOWEEN H20 was released), a channel on British tv showed a HALLOWEEN documentary with all new interviews with CARPENTER. He said he really didn't want to be involved in HALLOWEEN 2 apart from being executive producer. But the others involved (presumably YABLANS and AKKAD) desperately wanted him to direct. In the end they settled on him writing it, so CARPENTER reluctantly went about it. He said he bought a four pack of beer, it was around midnight, and the whole 'twist' storyline was the best he could come up with at the time. He also went on to say that none of the sequels hurt the original, so he doesn't have any problems with them (especially because he gets a fat check everytime one is made!!) :D

Yeah it really makes you wander what could've been if H3 was successful.

I don't know, I mean the only thing that I truely say was good about H3 was the soundtrack, if you can find it, pick it up, it's got some very good early 80's synth sounds, truely one of JC's best work composing.

Carpenter should have stuck to his idea, and let Season of the Witch be Halloween 2, and then quench our thirst with H2 as the third installment. Of course that's just an experiment, but I think it would have been accepted better if most fans "not in the know" were thrown this bone.

Yeah I agree that Season of the witch should've been part 2 and yeah the music for the film kicks ass!

I almost forgot to mention, when I first saw that face on the cover of H3, I felt a real errie sense come over me, I forget how old I was, probably like 7 or 8, but I was in the video store, and just remember feeling this sense like foggyness come over me, I can't really describe it, it was really uncanny. And by that time I think I saw my first Halloween film H4 and the rest is history.

*SPOILERS for people who don't know the Halloween or Jason movies*
When H3 came out, did serial killers come back to life? Had Jason been killed before 1982?
I know at the end of Halloween 2, Michael appears to die. I figure Carpenter said something like "He's dead, let's make a different Halloween!"
Michael didn't reappear until 1988, by that time I believe Jason had been resurrected at least once or twice. I figure by then audiences were used to undead serial killers.

I get to thinkin that Michael Myers was alive & mobile after H2, even though in H4, we are clearly show from the beginning him being an inviliant at Smith Groove. I think there's something more to it.
