I think it will; "Potter" took a huge drop at the BO this weekend that will help open the door for "Ocean's 11" and- the next week- "Vanilla Sky." Yes, "Ocean's" will beat "Potter."

Of corse, Ocean's 11 will make more then Harry Potter, no doubt ablout it, I mean Harry Potter had enough trouble tryin to beat Behind Enemy Lines this past weekend, HP beat BEL by only 5 million dollers when the week before that HP blew away the second Plce winner by over 20 million, so obviously since Potter barely beat Enemy Lines, I think O's 11 should have no problem what so ever taking number one next week.........

Oceans 11 certainly will make more than Harry Potter this weekend however I think that Harry is gonna hold up well this weekend, dipping maybe 20-25% as it's the only real film other than Monsters Inc. out there for the young'uns. Last weekend's performance was actually typical for the weekend after Thanksgiving, most films generally drop more than 50%........Harry dropped 57% while Monsters Inc. dropped 62%.
My Predictions:
1.Oceans 11
--$ 41.0 million/NEW
2.Harry Potter
--$ 17.9 million/$241.6 million total
3.Behind Enemy Lines
--$ 13.0 million/$ 37.4 million total
4.Spy Game
--$ 8.6 million/$ 59.8 million total
5.Monsters Inc.
--$ 5.8 million/$210.7 million total
6.Black Knight
--$ 3.4 million/$ 28.1 million total
7.Shallow Hal
--$ 2.4 million/$ 66.0 million total
8.Amelie
--$ 1.5 million/$ 12.0 million total
9.Out Cold
--$ 1.3 million/$ 12.5 million total
10.Life As A House
--$ 0.8 million/$ 15.1 million total

It will defenetly make more!! HP is already loosing its legs on the box office! Is a good movie, but not a great movie. So it doesn't have the ability to last in the long run on the box office like Titanic did.

Well, im sure HP will have better legs than Oceans 11. Some critics have already bashed the movie, and the only thing that would get people to see it, after they get by the fact that the fans of the stars will go see it, is good word-of-mouth. It doesnt look that funny, that thrilling, or that entertaining. I think with that many stars they will each be trying to 1-up the other, and the movie will get tiresome. Just my opinon. Oh yeah, and it will beat Harry Potter, at probably around 35-42 million.
Of course it will beat Harry Potter, there's not even a little chance Harry Potter will beat it. Ocean's Eleven will have a good weekend this weekend. I think I'll be going to see it friday night.

"some" critics "bashed it"? you better put on that thinking cap. The Rolling Stones critic, Peter Travers, Variety, the Hollywood Reporter, and the People magazine critic all gave it the thumbs up.

Hey Dopy...check out our #1 RULE in our RULES & GUIDELINES (http://www.joblo.com/rules.htm) section of this board and note that we do not allow putdowns or disrespect among posters. If you want to make a point about something, make it...but no need to tell anyone to "put on a thinking cap"...believe it or not, it doesn't help you make your point any better.
Incidentally, MOST CRITICS did absolutely love HARRY POTTER, but at least 22 of them didn't recommend it, according to ROTTEN TOMATOES (http://www.rottentomatoes.com/movie-1109764/), including yours truly... http://www.joblo.com/ubb/wink.gif

JoBlo, "you better put on that thinking cap"
is a putdown/disrespect? I thought that's a fairly common praise alot of people use.
well, ok, I'll be careful.

I hate to break it to you, but Peter Travers, Variety, Hollywood Reporter, ect. - aok, so they gave it thumbs up?? But those are not the only critics in the world, and even their review of the film wasnt that positive. I think there were more complaints than good things to say in some of them, but it still got "thumbs up" because of the star power; which to me, definately does not make a good movie.

What are you talking about? Travers put this movie in his Top 10 list for this year. and those other critics, that reviewed it, said alot of nice things about it.

Every one of those reviews said that it was very good to excellent. That sounds like pretty positive reviews to me!

Potter has already dropped 59% from last weekend so there is now way it will outdo Oceans 11.
I don't think it will make much more money especially after LOTR comes out.
Out......

You guys might be missing the point. This is asking whether Oceans-11 will beat harry Potter's record for the most money made in it's opening weekend. So while Oceans-11 may end up making more money over the course of it's run in the theater, I think there's no way it'll beat Potter's opening weekend figures. I'm somewhat doubtful with even Fellowship of the Ring will do it (but I hope it will beat out that piece of crap Potter).

Sorry to bust your bubble Jasonite, but the topic is talking about just this weekend?
Looking at JoBlo's review, I hope it does beat HP. After that everyone will realize it(Ocean's 11) is overrated and forget about it. Then they can go enjoy some good movies like Vanilla Sky, Fellowship of the Ring, etc..

and how do you know VANILLA SKY and FOTR will be good movies?
Roger Friedman ripped apart VS, saying, that after screenings, this movie won't be an Oscar contender.

I said "Vanilla Sky, Fellowship of the Ring, etc.". This means all the good December/January movies that are released after this weekend. Sure VS might be bad, but I hadn't seen any mediocre reviews for it yet.
Dopy8899
12-05-2001, 01:05 AM
Travers put O11(like VS) on his top 10 list for this year.
What's your point? and his is the only (positive)opinion(from critics, that is), of VS, that I've read, while Friedman ripped it apart.
What's your point?

Why don't you post all these reviews that trash Vanilla Sky, then maybe I'll believe you. As for Ocean's 11, both JoBlo and allmovie.com have given it lower than expected ratings. The point is that there are going to be a better movies than Ocean's 11.
Dopy8899
12-05-2001, 01:35 AM
*sigh*. Yes, JoBlo, like the rest of us, are entitled to our own opinions.
But why are you and that poster so quick to write off OCEAN'S 11, just because JoBlo and that other movie site you mentioned didn't like it as much as they expected it to, but, en yet, you and that poster are so quick to say how VANILLA SKY, FOTR, etc. are going to be great films?
That poster said he hasn't read 1 mediocre review of VS. I was just pointing out to him(and to you) a critic who just hated it.

hey dopy, you're only dealing with one person here
What I meant by "Sure VS might be bad, but I hadn't seen any mediocre reviews for it yet." was that Vanilla Sky is still pretty much a mystery to me. Now that I've heard what some critics have said about O's 11(some that I happen to agree with most of the time), it doesn't pique my interest as much. The same thing could happen with Vanilla Sky, but I doubt with all the good movies coming out, one won't get some really sparkling reviews.

I tell you what. Go see VS, etc. and we'll continue this chat afterwards.
sound ok?

I really hope Oceans 11 takes over Harry Potter. It's really becoming quite irritating seeing Harry Potter everywhere.

Calm down now everybody http://www.joblo.com/ubb/biggrin.gif Jeez it seems like a lot of discussions are becoming quite intense lately... It's all Osama's fault! Anywayz everyone's entitled to his or her opinions, so don't get mad at each other... A lot of stuff people are arguing about don't have a right answer, so let's just hug and be nice ok?

Oceans 11 will be harry potter harry potter only made like 24 million this weekend and it will probably be less next weekend.

I agree with you Mike Damone, I'm not as interested in seeing it either. I was going to check it out Friday night but now I'm just considering staying home and renting a movie instead. But I still haven't made up my mind yet.

Are you guys really consider critics to know if you should see a movie or not ?
I can't believe that. I mean, I never care about any critics or reviews ... I just go if I feel like going and that's it.
Anyway, I'll be there.

Hey, critics kept me from seeing Pearl Harbor, I can be thankful about that. I see good things about almost all the movies I see trailers for, but I can't see them all(not enough time or money). I see movies that either get good reviews or I really, really want to see.

Jasonite, you're obviously not understanding the question. While the question is a little vague, I think everyone else is answering whether Ocean's 11 will beat Harry Potter for the weekend of the 7th-9th. I didn't mean to insult you or anything, just point you in the right direction. Obviously, O's 11 won't set a new record, but it will probably easily beat Harry Potter's gross just for this weekend(i.e. O's 11 - $40 million, HP - $18 million).
