I recently puchased a portable DVD playr (however it cost alot and it took several tries to get one that work since the two first models I had malfunctioned and I managed to exchange both for a good one I own now). I bought it because I'm obsessed with keeping my "at-least-one-movie-I-haven't-seen-yet per day" rule and since I don't read nor listen to music on long trips (some of which can take close to 12 hours) I figured I'd pick it up. It gives me an excuse to listen to commentaries (I don't like listening to them in my spare, at home time). Does anybody else here own one? If so, thought? Opinions?

I've got one. It's only one from Wal Mart. Nice size widescreen. It isn't a great picture, the good name brands look a lot better. I like to use it at night, in bed to catch up on older movies that my wife won't watch.
Casablanca, Adventures of Robin Hood, North By Northwest, Maltese Falcon, ect...
I like it.

Yeah, I have a cheap AMW 7", which actually has a better looking screen than some of the more expensive ones (!). I've watched a buttload of movies on it over the last two months, when I had no TV (I moved from Hawaii to the mainland). Now that I have the TV, I don't need it as much.
However, I plan on buying a velcro strip or two, and placing these strips on strategic locations in my car. I'm gonna buy some real cheap battery powered speakers, and use the player as company on long trips. So I still have good use for it! :D

I do, but the sound doesn't go as high as I wish. Nice 7" Widescreen, it's a real pain in the ass to charge though. Good thing for the 6 hour trips for the summer, and when the power goes out, or when the teacher isn't paying alot of attention during exams.

Don't know if you thought of this, but I have the same model and what I do is use one of those CD Player car adapters, but the cassette in my tape deck and plug the headphone plug into the headphone jack on the DVD player. That way, the audio comes from every speaker in your car instead of some cheap speakers.
