Schmoes I need some help cos I am thinking about converting to an online dvd rental thing like Netflix.

I've heard rumours that netflix themselves are coming to our shores soon but I was wondering whether there are any other companies that are just as good.

I would be happy having 3 movies out a time and I love all things cinema including hollywood, classics and foreign (e.g asian/south american, etc.)

Cheers in advance.

Okay, your two main contenders are MailboxMovies.Com (http://dvd.mailboxmovies.com/welcome/) and LOVEFiLM.Com (www.LOVEFILM.Com) .

If you want the best FOREIGN selection...LOVEFiLM (formerly DVDSONTAP) is the only one worthy of a subscription.

I've been a member for about a year now, and I can't say I have any complaints about the service. It's good value, prompt...and there's always something worthy of a rental.

I subscribe to the £20 package...I'm allowed 3 DVD's at any one time, pay roughly a quid per movie, and I receive between 15-25(ish) DVD's per month...although funnily enough today I received a FREE upgrade. I'm now entitled to 4 movies per calendar month instead of the usual 3, I think...

Hmm, I'll let you know.

Now back to the Foreign flicks...

MAILBOX MOVIES doesn't even a SINGLE Tarkovsky film ferchrisake!

Here's just an example of a few top-notch Foreign directors, and the amount of movies available on both the MAILBOX MOVIE and LOVEFiLM sites,

Andrei Tarkovsky - MM 0, LF 10

Ingmar Bergman - MM 1, LF 17

François Truffaut - MM 2, LF 9

Akira Kurosawa - MM 6, LF 10

Takeshi Kitano - MM 4, LF 6

Takashi Miike - MM 2, LF 11

Federico Fellini - MM 2, LF 4

Jean Cocteau - MM 0, LF 1

Werner Herzog - MM 2, LF 6

Jean-Luc Godard - MM 3, LF 3

Lars Von Trier - MM 4, LF 7

Dario Argento - MM 7, LF 13

There's no comparison really, LOVEFiLM clearly has the superior selection. It also has the superior website layout, and it just seems a damn sight more professional when compared to the competition.

Anyway, here's a link that might interest you.

Try and compare all the companies, and watch movies FREE OF CHARGE for the next 8 months.

Have FUN.

Cheers for the detailed reply buddy. I've been checking out videoisland which seems pretty cool but the layout is a bit lacking!

Thanks:)
