I'm surprised that there isn't already a rumors/news thread about the Criterion Collection on these boards, but you have to start somewhere.

In this thread, feel free to post news, rumors, or your own personal thoughts on what the Criterion Collection will or may be releasing on DVD over the upcoming months, but have yet to be "officially" announced by Criterion.

Please include a link, source, or explaination on where you got your information/speculation.

Thanks

To begin, an intriguing bit of news was posted today on davisdvd.com (originally from Fangoria) about a possible VIDEODROME: Criterion Collection 2-disc set coming in August.

see for yourself: http://davisdvd.com/news/rumors.html

Or read it here:
Fangoria reports the Criterion Collection is set to release a brand new two-disc special edition of David Cronenberg's Videodrome in August. In addition to a new director-approved transfer of the unrated version, look for the following extras:

• Audio commentary by Cronenberg and cinematographer Mark Irwin
• Audio commentary by stars James Woods and Deborah Harry
• Cronenberg's short film "Camera," created for the Toronto Film Festival in 2000 and starring Les Carlson
• A new 30-minute documentary by video effects artist Michael Lennick about the movie's landmark makeup and special FX
• "Fear on Film," a half-hour roundtable discussion from 1982 between Cronenberg, John Carpenter and John Landis (all of whom were working on Universal horror films at the time), hosted by director-to-be Mick Garris
• Short promotional featurette from 1982, also created by Garris
• "Samurai Dreams" - the fake Japanese soft-core porn film seen in the movie, presented in its entirety
• Extensive galleries with makeup test shots, behind-the-scenes photos, publicity stills, marketing materials, trailers, etc. and more!

.... This sounds great. Now all Criterion needs to do is get eXistenZ and The Fly out, and they'll have all the best Cronenberg films on DVD.

If this is true, I'll definetely exchange my old DVD of Videodrome for the new one.

Speaking of rumours, I heard somewhere that there's gonna be a box-set of Eisenstein's silent films, including Battleship Potemkin. I think it's gonna take a few months (if it happens) but I'll definetely buy it if does come out.

I just orgasmed all over my laptop's screen.

Like, literally, that is the coolest thing I've ever heard. There are too many great movies in that set.

DVDaficionado.com is listing an Eistenstein boxed set from Criterion as "NOT ANNOUNCED", this is a good sign because usually their site is pretty accurate.

They say it will include the following:

Eisenstein: The Silent Years - The Criterion Collection
- Strike ( Stachka ) (1925)
- Battleship Potemkin ( Bronenosets Potyomkin ) (1925)
- October: Ten Days That Shook the World ( Oktyabr ) (1927)

This would be a pretty nice set!

A Criterion Edition of Slackers would be nice, and I've been hearing rumors about it for a couple months now.

Wes Anderson's first film Bottle Rocket is deserving of a Criterion Release, considering the edition out now is pretty shitty.

Do you mean the 2002 Slackers, with Jason Schwartzman?

...if so, that's a little beneath the Criterion Collection. Most teen comedies are. That would be like Criterion doing Old School or something; it just wouldn't make any sense. It isn't exactly groundbreaking film, in any form.

My sentiments exactly. They're might (just might) be another another film called Slackers out there but you should also keep in mind Criterion also released Armageddon.

I looked on imdb.com... and the 2002 one is the only movie called Slackers.

Armageddon? Yes, well, there is no excuse for Criterion releasing that. They may have been trying to get attention from a more mainstream audience (there are a lot of people who like this movie. Yikes!). If they wanted to appeal to a mass audience, they wouldn't pick Slackers, though, because it's uh... bad.

Isn't there a Richard Linklater film called Slackers?

Slackers with Jason Schwartzman (Rushmore) was a very funny movie, and if it ever came out on Criteron I'd definately purchase it. From what I remember my Slackers DVD didn't contain any special features. So perhaps they were keeping said special features for a more respectful Criteron release?

I think Mr. Orange seriously meant Slacker, the movie by Richard Linklater, but just made a typo with the S. I highly doubt the Orange would actually want the 2002 one on DVD
