View Full Version : MP3 of the Day!!!!

Here's how it goes
Find an MP3(on the net somewhere in a link)and post it on here. Although the problem is that there can only be ONE a day. So once one is posted on that day, there can't be another posted until the next day. It goes like that. Just a few tips
Please make it a direct link to the MP3. If people like the song they can just right-click and hit 'Save Target As'
Put the day in your post when you are putting the link up. If it is June 24th your post would say "June 24th" and then the link to the song.
No more than one song per day.
Keep the file size a bit low(don't make it ridiculous like over 10 megs).
This is like the download music tag game except it's a lot more open to everyone. So here it is

What I thought:
Must be dreaming: I love this song off of their cd. It really reminds me of the B52's quite a bit. It's catchy, upbeat and infectious pop. Frou Frou is one of those great sunny day driving type bands.
Wild Pack of Family Dogs: I've never heard this song before, I'm getting more and more into Modest mouse as of late (I know I fucking missed the boat way back when its a long stupid story). This song really didn't do much for me though. It actually kind of grated me.
Track 1? (I don't know the band) I think it's called corporate monkey. I had a balst with this one. It reminded me of high school which was a ska saturated experience. I've ignored the genre for quite a bit of time and this song was a refreshing reminder as to how fun the genre can be. Sort of reminds me of hepcat.
Solo?? (Don't know the title to this one either) but.... I dug it quite a bit. The female vocals had that light raspy appeal to them that really pushes the right buttons in me when used right. The guitar had some haunting moments and I actually liked this song alot :) Who is this? I think it was psychocandy's picks I got them a little mixed up since I downloaded them all at once.
Guster ~ Happier ~
Hmmm at first this song kind of irked me but as it went on It became a grower. The whole escalation of the song really worked for it and the vocals sort of reminded me of the psychedelic furs a bit. A decent song. :)

good idea bowieee!
here is my take on the songs for the day:
Must be Dreaming:
Imogen has such a gorgeous voice, this is probably my third favorite song off the album, the chorus is great and goes a bit faster then some of her other songs. Really pretty.
Wild Pack of Family Dogs:
This song simultaneously annoyed the hell out of me and entertained me. The melody is kinda catchy, but that guys voice to me is like nails on a chalkboard lol.
Corporate Monkey:
this is a cool song, its like mellow ska. Has a good beat and cute lyrics :)
psychocandy's pick:
I'm also really curious to who this is, this is an awesome song! it seems like if you're in the right type of mellow mood, it's a song you could easily listen to over and over, the girls voice is also quite pretty.
Purity and Poison-
I can't even explain my attraction to this song, but I've become rather obsessed with it after multiple listenings to it, to the point where I can honestly say I absoultley LOVE this song!!!!
here's my pick of the day, though Someguy already has it :D

Okay, I'll do 24th May PICKS.
SOMEGUY'S PICK:
I don't know, this is perfectly pleasant enough but it just doesn't tickle my fancy. The gal singing sounds like the bastard love-child of Dido and the bloke from Ace Of Base. I saw the SIGN, and it opened up my eee-eeyes, I saw the SIGN! The 'runs' are more than a bit OTT and it's all kinda saccharine. Give me cheese and crackers any day of the week.
MINMEI'S PICK:
Hmmm, haphazard is a word I'd use…that and tone-deaf. Sorry Lynn, this is horrible...fucking horrible :D. I've pissed more cohesive 'melodies'. Words fail me.
ERINACHAN'S PICK:
The best thus far, by a rather large margin. It's only downfall is the MOR 'feel' (been there, heard that), plus it's a touch too polished for my taste. I prefer my musak just that little bit mucky, ya know...frayed about the edges, grrr. Still, these are very small gripes. Thanking you for the link, a very splendid addition to my easygoing Tuesday afternoon!
BUBBA'S PICK:
Okay, this is bags 'o' fun. I haven't listened to a bit of ska in ages, and it's grand for getting the booty shaking. I really like the VOCALS on this one...smoother than a newborn baby's backside! Currently my favourite.
PSYCHO'S PICK:
For some bizarre reason that intro doesn't half remind me of The Power Of Love by Frankie Goes To Hollywood. I dunno, the geetar...um...I feel all alone out here, teetering on this limb. Ooookay, I really like this...oooh, and you know who else I'm 'getting' - she says, sounding increasingly like Derek Acorah from UK Living's 'Most Haunted' - Kylie! Yup, little Kylie (don't hurt me too much)...but Kylie at her kewlest. Tangent, going of on one. Errr, it's good. It's probably my favourite despite the Frankie/Kylie comparisons. I'm going to stop typing now.
Well for a minute anyway...
HEY!
Did ya miss me?
So, in a word...Ireallylikeit.
BOWIEEE'S PICK:
Great pick Bowieee. Sweet Jesus, the chorus is a bit hardcore! Woah, CHILL OUT sweetheart! Nah, I like this...and I don't really know why. Wahey, there's that shouty chorus again. Oooh dear...I've got one very pissed-off feline giving me the evil eyes right about now. She was mid-way through her 22 hour 'nap', bless her. So, thumbs up from me...paws down from Cheeky, one truly miserable looking moggy.

The track I chose to post was by a Glasgow band called Eva. I kinda know the girl who sings lead vocals and plays violin in the band (she's also a full time member of the current Arab Strap line up). They are a very talented bunch and have just signed their first record deal. Their debut album should be out within the year. There are a few more songs available for download at their website www.evatheband.com and all are worth a listen. There's also an EP available for purchase and I highly recommend it. I've glad you both (Bowieee and BCV) liked it.

Playground Love ~ A Great Air song that I never tire of. That whole album is a dreamy mellow romp that is perfect naptime music. This song in particular has this "drifting" feel to it that I really enjoy
Jerk it out ~ I really liked this Ditty. The whole Dancehall vibe of this song totally put a smile on my face. This is one of those great dance around your room type songs that can be played over and over. :)
Bearsuit ~ Who the hell are these guys? They are damn good and I really liked this whole song. It kept me on the edge of my seat as to what direction the song would go in next and never bored me. I actually just finished listening to it for the seond time and I can safely say this ones a keeper.

Well, they're called Bearsuit, and the song is Itsuko Got Married.
It's from their debut album Cat Spectacular, and I see it being right up your alley way Bowieee.
Review here! (http://www.drownedinsound.com/articles/9158.html)
Oh, and they aint Belle & Sebastian someguy. If you listen to their accents you'll hear they're very English! B & S are Scottish, just listen to their diction...extremely different.
Anyway, I'm going off to download for the 25th and find my own linky.

I know it wasn't them but they had a similar sound.
Plus the whole "clapping" beat of it is really infectious. Maybe I'll take a brief review of it all.
May 24th, 2004.
Lynn Minmei-I didn't like this song at all which isn't surprising considering me and Lynn's taste in music differ a lot of the time. Very irritating and boring.
erinachan-Ah Guster. Amsterdam was a great song but this song is very average to me. I enjoyed it but it's not so good that I would download it to my computer.
BubbaStrangeLove-Good times my man. Good times. :D
Psychocandy-I felt the song went on for too long and eventually lost my interest completely. I'll give it another listen though.
bowiee-If you want to see my review check out the download music tag game :D I enjoy the song but nothing memorable really.
May 25th, 2004.
erinachan-you know what I think of this erin(:))but it's a great "fun times" song. Can get you moving to the beat.
BadCoverVersion-The band DOES remind me of B&S and the beat is incredibly infectious and catchy. I dig. I dig a lot. First song on here that I downloaded to my computer.
bowiee-The opening reminds me of the Requiem for a Dream score. Although that voice...I don't like it at all. I find it grating really. But the music of the song is awesome. If there was a music only version I would get it in a second.
Best song of May 24th, 2004: BubbaStrangeLove's song(Corporate Monkey)
Best song of May 25th, 2004: BadCoverVersion's song(Itsuko Got Married)
Worst song of May 24th, 2004: Lynn Minmei's song(Wild Pack of Family Dogs?)
Worst song of May 25th, 2004: It's difficult to pick since I do like all of the songs. But I'll go with bowiee's pick(Is it called Blondie or something?)

Playground Love-
I love this song, but I always thought it was bit unsettling and haunting, but maybe just cause it was in Vigin Suicides, still a great song, just not one I can listen to all the time.
Itsuko Got Married -
I don't think I've ever heard anything like this. It took me a few listenings to really get into it, but after awhile I really liked it! thank you BCV!! :D
bowieee's pick -
I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE this song!!!!!can you tell me who it's by bowieee? I'll be so grateful!

It's off the new Blonde Redhead album. The whole cd is a masterpiece :)
Someguy I'm really liking this game! The download music tag game was getting harder to play due to not as many people out in internet land putting up their songs for download. This game makes it way easier and still tons of fun thanks! :)
Bcv, I'll be keeping an eye out for bearsuit, that was a nifty song.
Reviews:
Mr. Scruff ~ Get a move on: This song was pretty decent. I love the old jazz vibe but the drum machine in the background began to slightly wear at me. I could listen to this as a novelty every once in awhile but not more than that. It was still a fun pick to listen to though :)
Misty Rowe ~ Young Heart Attack: Holy shit the hairs on my arm stood up in the first chorus. This song made me want to pump my hand in the air ala billy idol style. This song totally took me by surprise and it's a keeper!

Thoughts on 25th MAY...
SOMEGUY'S PICK:
Okay, so I know this song well. I'll keep it short and sweet.
Brilliant.
ERINACHAN'S PICK:
Hey, wakey wakey BadCoverVersion. This is rather funky I must say. It's got a really kewl dancehall vibe like Bowieee says. I could see myself bopping to this after a couple of G&T's. Yup...I like.
BOWIEEE'S PICK:
Niiiiiice. I'm a sucker for a high-pitched girly a la Katy Bush, so this is a real treat for me. I like how this song progresses, it tells a proper little tale.

Sally Cinnamon ~ The Stone Roses:
This is by far the best stone roses song I've heard yet, and I've heard a bunch thanks to Mr. Calf. It just has that whole rock ballad feel to it. The lead vocals warble in that special way that makes me feel all fuzzy inside. This one is a multiplay easily. :)

I absolutely agree that Wild Packs of Family Dogs is a fucking terrible and annoying song.
Modest Mouse have made so much better (Their new single "Float On" is brilliant as is anything on their new album), but that single song introduced me to the band, as I was in a short film and the director had a laptop full of Modest Mouse. When I was browsing it, I came across the song, and because of the weird name, I played it. I laughed at it for a while because it's such a different song. Such a weird song and irritating, but that uneven-ness is attractive to me, I guess. It's a weird love/hate relationship.
Ah well.
In honor of Someguy creating a decent thread, I have decided to post a song I know he and I both like (It exists, somehow).
Even though I haven't listened to this song in a while, I haven't been able to get it out of my head the last few days. And yes, this song you're supposed to like, unlike my last post.
I've come dangerously close to performing this beauty live, but my plans never fell through.
Ah well.

By the way, Sumgi, could we change this thread so that we can post the link as the song's title so we know what the bloody hell we're listening to? Maybe we could have the date above and then post the song's title as the link. Or, if you'd rather keep the suspense, go ahead.
And Madam BCV, I DEMAND a sticky for this thread. DEMAND it.

Some random thoughts on songs here:
bowieee's pick from 5/24:
Whoa. I agree with Someguy...The sound of this is very nice, until the actual singing begins. Pleasant surprise.
Erinachan's pick from 5/25:
Hey, I've heard this several times before. Pretty fun song and whatnot. I guess that makes two songs so far that Someguy and I agree on. Weird-o.
Someguy's pick from 5/25:
Another surprise. I'll have to check out more Air. I liked this, but it could grow too repititous on me.

High Voltage ~ I can't get enough of the electric six. They are one of those bands out there keeping the fun in rock n roll. High Voltage is just a classic sing along song. Put it on during a road trip and try not to sing with your friends... I dare yah!

You bastard Lynn. You bastard. Picking my favourite song. ;)
I think almost everyone knows I LOVE Electric Six's high Voltage. I asked Lynn to listen to the god damn thing for four months and he always said no. At least he likes it.
I like the whole putting dates instead of the title on here. It would be better since it makes the person not know what kind of song they're going to listen to. If someone asks you can give the title out or you can give it out the next day. EIther one. With that said....

Metric ~ Combat Baby:
This song is really addictive. I've listened to it twice allready and I want to hear it again. The chorus is especially catchy. The song has a poppy feel to it with a little darker edge. Nice Pick!
Photobooth ~ Death Cab for Cutie: This isn't my favorite song that I've heard by the death cab but it's still not shabby either. It just feels really generic to me. The story is nice that he's singing about. The song ended rather choppily, I'm not sure if that's due to the download or just the song.

Right...i'm playing catch-up.
Frou Frou - Must Be Dreaming
Neither alarmingly bad nor stunningly brilliant. This song veers from borderline Dido blandness to a sort of electroeuphoric rush that's quite appealing in a limited sort of way. I don't forsee this taking pride of place on my playlist (or any place for that matter) but I don't feel that it's been a waste of the four minutes it took to listen to.
Modest Mouse - Wild Pack Of Family Dogs
Bewilderingly and amusingly bad. Bewidering because I always thought Modest Mouse would appeal to me. Amusing because...well...just listen to it. It sounds to me like the guy is trying to antagonise the audience into throwing something at him. I doubt this is representative of Modest Mouse's recorded output so I still plan to check them out some day.
Corporate Monkey
Reggae is one of those musical genre's that I kinda despise. It sometimes sneaks under my radar (Massive Attack, The Specials...and...um...erm...that's it...). This is cock. Unhygenic, cheesy helmeted cock at that.
Scarlet Symphony - Purity And Poison
The start of this reminds me of an eighties indie band from the UK called The House Of Love. The vocals sound like they wouldn't sound out of place on a song by dEUS. In fact as the song progresses it mimics the sort of manic energy dEUS displayed on their magnificent Suds & Soda single. I like this...A LOT. A great song and a band I think i'll be investigating. Cheers Bowieee.
Guster - Happier
Hmm...vocals are a little weak on this one. Bland...middle of the road. As the song progresses it gets less and less appealing until suddenly I find myself...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Huh...where? Ooops...drifted off just there. Boring song...utterly. Sorry.
Caesar's Palace - Jerk It Out
Heh...the intro of this reminds me of UK indie stalwarts Inspiral Carpets and the feeling persists throughout. I liked the Inspirals and I like this. Has a groovy feel to it and had me grinning like a lunatic. Good shite.
Bearsuit - Itsuko Got Married
Hmm...unusual. Someone else mentioned Belle And Sebastian as a reference point. I'm getting that too. That's not all i'm getting though. This is a lot less precious than Belle And Sebastian. They are sort of perfectionists in their approach whereas this has a loose, thrown together kind of appeal. I like it...i'm just not sure how much. I'd have to hear it a bunch more times (and I will).
Blonde Redhead - Misery Is A Butterfly
Beautiful...absolutely gorgeous. Sounds very elegent in a French kinda way (odd because French isn't as far as i'm aware part of the Blonde Redhead equation). I heard this album for the first time a few weeks back and I plan to return to it at some point in the near future as I enjoyed listening to it a great deal. This song is simply magnificent though. The only song thus far that I immediately listened to again.
Air - Playground Love
Already familiar with this song. Love it.
Mr Scruff - Get A Move On
Not atrocious but it did get on my nerve a bit as it progressed. Sound to me like someone is trying to do for old jazz records the same as what Moby did for the blues. A little too repetative for my taste. There can be joy in repetition...not here though. Kinda average.
Mountain Goats - Family Happiness
I fucking love Mountain Goats (not literaly mind...i've been single for a while but i'm not desperate.................yet). This is a typically ragged and unpolished piece of sheer brilliance. I have a few of their albums and plan on picking up everything I can get my hands on before the end of the year. Absolutely ace!!!
Electric Six - Danger (High Voltage)
Genius...that's all i'm gonna say.
Metric - Combat Baby
This is kinda cool. Nothing especially rousing but a nice little sugar coated rock number. I'll listen to this a few more times before deciding it's ultimate fate.
Young Heart Attack - Misty Rowe
Fuck!!! I'm getting a hair rock alert with this one. Thoroughly unappealing in every way. I had trouble listening to this all the way thorough.
Death Cab For Cutie - Photobooth
Absolutely lovely. I've heard quite a lot of Death Cab For Cutie and this song just serves to further cement my opinion of them. I really need to get a hold of a couple of their albums. The only thing wrong with this song is that it cuts out before the end.
Rilo Kiley - With Arms Outstretched
This I like. Very nice vocals. Reminds me a wee bit of Lucinda Williams. It has that world weary tone too it that runs so deep through Williams songs. This song reeks of hard won experience. I really like this one. Really like it. I'll be checking out more of Rilo Kiley. This is right up my alley.
The Stone Roses - Sally Cinnamon and Made Of Stone
Classics both!!!
I think that's me all caught up now. I'll post my choice for today in just a sec. Need to find something worthwhile.

My thoughts for the 27th...
SOMEGUY'S PICK:
I like the shitty Bontempi stylee keyboard in the background...fucking ACE! Stick it on 'samba' and lets RAWK this joint...but alas that's where my liking begins and ends I'm afraid. I'm just NOT partial to this birds VOICE…in fact, it pains me. Put a cork in it ya daft get!
So, great musak, very great. Horrible everything else.
ERINACHAN'S PICK:
Woah! Another Bontempi!? What's going on here? It's like a live show in your Uncle's 'parlour'. Unlike the last pick, I like pretty much everything about this ditty. Nice VOCALS, nice LYRICS, superlative BEAT. Yes, this is grand. In fact, I've just whacked it straight on my current playlist. Nice one Erinachan!
BOWIEEE'S PICK:
Shit! I love this...it's really something else. I love the chimes, and I love it when everybody joins in, and the CLAPS...man, the CLAPS. This is most definitely my favourite song of the thread thus far. Somebody give me a tamborine and an orange caftan! BRILLIANT CHOICE!
PSYCHOCANDY'S PICK:

The broken family ~ This song just got better and better as it went on. I've been looking fore more country artists that appeal to me and this band looks like one I could really grow to love. The whole song is extremely well written and the flow is perfect. Neat pick :)
Secret machines ~ Hmmm I'm not sure if I like this yet or not...
It has a generic feel to it yet sounds unique when noone is singing. I don't think I could hear this one over and over again.

Yeah, BCV, the track is just wanting you to enter your name and E-mail.

And it plays after that.

Sorry you didn't like The Secret Machines. I didn't take to them immediately meself but MTV2 kept playing them and playing them and playing them...

Oooooh, okay...I'm cooking with gas now.
Still on 27th May...
MINMEI'S PICK:
I didn't review it first time round because...well, is there really any need?
The only way this song could get any better is if it was accompanied by the equally brilliant video.
Fingers and thumbs pointing way up yonder.
PSYCHOCANDY'S PICK:
Right, I'm typing as I listen here...it's taking it's bloody time, oh here we go...big intro, yo. Right, this is NICE enough, but there's nowt really jumping out at me. I like it, and I'm getting a distinct ACHTUNG BABY vibe here...whiffs of 'The Fly' and 'Mysterious Ways'. The vocals are okay, the tune is okay, the whole thing is just...sort of okay. So...okay, it's over...I don't know. It's a DECENT tune, but for me...nothing more than background music, okay?
Shame on ya PSYCHO.
Imagine posting a tune that's just okay!?
The bloody CHEEK of it.

Banquet ~ Bloc Party
This song had my head bobbing around from the get go. I really like the vocals on this one. The whole song has this 80's type feel to it. The way the singer croons ala bono style really gave this song some plus points in the final equation. The music is good and the vocals are excellent making this song a winner in my book nice pick psychocandy :)

28th May:
PSYCHOCANDYS PICK...
This is a bit old school, very obviously cool and kinda Cockerny sounding. My only gripe...a slight whiff of Albarn in parts, and I believe you're well aware of my feelings re: that little skallywag.
BOWIEEES PICK...
Another winner. It's got a whirly flavour, oh and tambourines rule! This one is definitely a keeper...easily one of the best recommendations thus far. Just my bag baby!
30th May:
SOMEGUYS PICK...
I don't remember this from "My Little Eye"...strange. It's been a while though. Sorry Someguy, I see the attraction...but this just doesn't appeal to me personally.
PSYCHOCANDYS PICK...
What's all this? Another blinkin' LICENSE thingummy!? You're having a larf Psycho. Um, okay...I've said yay to the prompt, it's doing nowt! "Why aaaare weeee waaaaaiting, weeee aaaare suuuff-ooooh-caaaating!"
Sod it. Oh, wait just a minute...aye aye, it's going now.
Okay, it's just instrumental stuff. Agreeable enough (dig those lamenting violins) but altogether forgettable. Right...it's stopped, kind off....but I'm watching media player, so I know it's just teasing me, *nudge wink*. So, it's pretty lovely, no arguments there...but to be honest, it's boring the tits of me. Coupled with a Jean Michel Jarre stylee light-extravaganza I reckon it'd be a winner ;). But as it stands...a big fat 'so what!' from me.
1st June:
MINMEI'S PICK...
Now I'm a big fan of "The Love Below", but this isn't a favourite of mine. It's so-so, I wouldn't have chosen it at the next single, but hey...in the words of Randy 'dawg' Jackson...it's aaaaaight!
SOMEGUYS PICK...
I dunno why, I've just never been partial to this tune...and it doesn't help matters that it's been completely overplayed and horror of horrors, used in many a friggin' ADVERT! It's not completely offensive or anything, just a bit dull.
2nd June:
PSYCHOCANDYS PICK...
Now this is just the ticket. Another welcome addition to my current play list. I like the harmonies, and the general mood of the song hit's the spot. It's a wee bit darker than your average country fodder . Yay for this!
ERINACHANS PICK...
Is that the bird from Evanescence (sp?) 'singing' like an alley cat!? Ooooh, not my cup of tea sweetheart, I do believe you've caught me on an 'off-day'.
Well, a mixed bag there folks...still, it's great to hear all these tunes. Keep 'em coming!

Bright Black - True Bright Blossom
Fuck me!!! This a wonderful song. It reminds me of a couple of Jesus And Mary Chain b-sides i've heard (I also detect a major Mazzy Star influence). Shimmering country cool. This is absolutely fucking magnificent. I WILL BE CHECKING THESE GUYS OUT!!! Is this song a good reflection of where their heads are at? Seriously...thanks.
Outkast - Roses
I do like Outkast. But I find their albums to be a little on the patchy side. There's nothing truly bad on them...but the odd less than entirely satisfactory track does slip through. This is one of them. It sure as hell ain't up to the standard of past singles. Just above average. Not bad by any mean...but not brimming over with genius either.
Aerosmith - Dream On
This I do like. Since Pump Aerosmith have not released a single album worthy of anything less than total contempt. I do however own their Pandora's Box box set and it's full of absolute gems. This is one of them. Over the course of three or four albums in the seventies Aerosmith created a legacy that does not in my opinion receive the recognition it deserves. This is perhaps because of how much they squandered their talents during the eighties by disappearing into a drug induced fog. This is a five star classic.

James - Sunday Morning
I like this more than I should. I'm not overly fond of pointless cover versions but this one is kinda cool. The way it turns into a medley of Velvet Underground songs near the end shouldn't work but somehow does. I've always liked James a great deal and coincidentally I watched their Getting Away With It Live DVD this very evening (always disappointed by the absence of Seven in the set). Cheers Mr. Calf. Nice one. Here's hoping that Tim Booth's solo work is worthwhile.

Here I go.... First time I wrote these my computer froze..... Grrrrr, Here to my computer holding itself together for this one:
Bloc Party: I've been listening to this one alot over the past few days. The way the chorus just rushes right in there grabs my ears and pulls them in that special way that makes me get all giddy about this song. This song is what Rock and Roll is all about, catchy riffy, and overdramatic singers doing what they do best. Great pick :)
Hope of the States:This is the type of song that is begging to be used in a movie scene somewhere, it reeks of atmosphere and it totally painted a bunch of pictures in my head as I closed my eyes and soaked it in. Beautiful pick.
Peaches: One of those songs that gets stuck in my head and I find myself singing outloud in places where I shouldn't be singing outloud. Really catchy tune that's a classic by my book.
Roses: Andre is a genius. He's saving mainstream hip hop from it's own stereotyping. Every single time this song comes on I find myself turning up the volume and singing at the top of my voice. It's not just cathcy beats, the lyrics are damn well written. This song deserves all of it's hype and more.
Weightless Again:
I have one of the handsome family's cd's in my shopping cart over at amazon psychocandy. I want it really bad but I also really want the other buffy the vampire slayer seasons so it's going to have to wait but I will get it, yes it will be mine. This song had a dreamy quality to it, the lyrics conjured very vived images in my mind as the song played and this song is selling me even more on this great band. I'm going to listen to this one alot.
Dream On: What happened to Aerosmith? There was a time when I could look at them and proclaim "Hey those guys rock" Now they are just a sad old parody of their former selves. But from their past... this song is their shining star, their ultimate kick ass rock song. No matter how much Aerosmith bugs me nowadays, time stops when this song comes on. A Classic.
Sunday morning: Not as good as the original.... but that's some pretty stiff competetion. I liked it as a whole but I didn't feel like James brought anything new to the plate with this cover. It was fun to hear though :)
The King of Bring: What a sad song. I actually bought the fact that this guy is leading a crummy life. It was a little to "weep for me"ish for me but it was a nice listen just not my my cup of tea.

That track is a good representation of who they are as a band. Live they are just breathtaking. I thought you would like them. :)
I know I'm repeating myself but I have to spread the word about these guys. Every single song I come across is a gem. Watching them play this live had me hypnotized from the get go, in fact te whole show had me hypnotized with their raw talent. Everyone needs to just go out and buy every album ever made by these guys. It's worth it.

Mountain Goats - Palmcorder Yajna
Swiftly becoming one of my favorite bands. I love it when the lyrics of a song are pushed up front and don't prove to be an embarassment to the art of songcraft. The music here is also quite brilliant. Excellent stuff.
Tom Waits - Heigh Ho
This is typical of Waits. Voice like it's been torn from a throat of cracked leather doused in a century old bottly of whisky. Music is all atmosphere and percussion. With Waits I find that him music doesn't work well in small doses. You need to immerse yourself in one of his albums. Good but i'd prefer to hear it in context (though I doubt that there is a context).
Pulp - Birds In Your Garden
BCV knows my opinion of all thing Cocker. This is a beatiful little song. Cocker is a genius and Pulp are one of the most cruely missed bands on the UK music scene.
Interpol - Leif Erikson
I love Interpol and this is one of their best songs. Looking forward to the second album with enormous anticipation.

The band are called Willard Grant Conspiracy. They have a few albums under their belt and every single one of them are masterpieces. Search Amazon for Willard Grant Conspiracy...it will give you hits. The song River In The Pines is from their wonderful Regard The End album. The other albums are Mojave, Everything's Fine and Flying Low. All are very worthy of attention.

I was actually downloading songs from this web site a few days ago. This song isn't Tom at the top of his game but it's still a nice listen. It just doesn't reach the epic quality that most Waits songs meet as far as my tastes go. It's still decent though.

Neutral Milk Hotel - Oh Comely
I think I heard this a long, long time ago at Bowiee's insistance. Not this live version...a studio version. It's a great song. This live version is quite wonderful and shall remain playlisted for a while. Kinda reminds me of early REM as it progresses. Cheers. I really must check out more Neutral Milk Hotel.
Nathaniel Merriweather - Strokers Ace
A nice little slice of trip hop. Very pleasant. I'd like to hear more of the album from which this song is drawn. Sultry vocals and a laid back rhythm combine to form a very relaxing whole. According to a review I just read Mike Patton, ex of Faith No More, provided vocals on one of the other tracks on the album. Intriguing.
Tom Waits - Little Man
Thanks...i'm a huge fan of Tom Waits but hadn't heard this before. It's absolutely gorgeous. How this failed to make it onto an album...well...I have no idea. Wonderful!!!
Beat Happening - Our Secret
Quite slight but quite magical at the same time. The guitar is metronomically insistant and the monotone vocals are appealing. I like this a whole lot. I've heard of Beat Happening before...somewhere. This is excellent. I think i'll be listening to this for some time.
South - Loosen Your Hold
I'm sure i've heard this song before. 100% certain. Perhaps it was a single. It's a good song. No doubt about it. I like it a lot. Something in the vocals reminds me of Simon And Garfunkel at times. This is a nice little song.
Sunday's Best - Saccharine
Not bad. Not overwhelmingly good either. It wouldn't drive me to check out more songs by Sunday's Best but it also wouldn't drive me to change to another station if it came on the radio.
Casket City Wolves - Judas Priest Cul-De-Sac
This is a fucking awsome song. It reminds me a little of a band I like called East River Pipe. Something to do with the distant vocals. This is really fantastic and i'm going to have to check out something more from these guys. Cheers. This is a keeper. Kinda reminds me of the kind of stuff that a certain John Dark would have enjoyed.

Casket of wolves:
This song was o.k. but not my cup of java. It was good but it felt sort of plain too. The guitar was catchy but the lyrics sort of left me unimpressed. It might grow on me after I listen to it a bit more though.
South:
Totally reminded me of the mamas and the Papas at first but then went a route that reminded me a bit of the band Smoke just without the gravely voice. I liked this song quite a bit. I've listened to it a few times since downloading it a few days ago and I'm still not tired of it. This one has long lasting appeal to it :)
That oldies song that someguy put up which I don't know the title to but has a bunch of do run runs thrown into the mix:
I'm sure I've heard this song oodles of times but it also feels like a generic oldie. Some oldies still give me a rush when I hear them others are just kind of just there when I hear them. This one sort of falls into the last category but it's not unpleasant either.
John Vanderslice:
At first I wasn't caught up by this song but it really grew on me as it went. I've heard it three times already and it's gotten better with each listen. The piano really drives the song and the lead singers voice doing that spiral style of singing really etched itself into my head. I like this little selection a lot now I think :)
Whipping boy:
Woah the hairs on my arm are standing up. There is some mighty fine song progression happening in this song. The whole story had me listening and then when the guitars chimed in I felt like raising a beer and singing along with the chorus. Really really good pick!
I know I'm breaking format with this pick but it was too good not to post. I was looking for some mp3's by stellerstar but stumbled on this video instead and it just awed me so I'm putting it down as my pick of the day. To warn everyone this is a video so it is breaking the mp3 format but I really really wanted to share it :)

Arab Strap:
This was a mellow listen that was nice listen especially after the long work week I just finished up. The string instruments were particulary beautiful.
After the Gold Rush:
I haven't listened to this song for years. Why the fuck have I been ignoring my neil records. The man just oozes talent. This song is just pulsating with raw emotion and had me at the first open track click.
Track 2 (Don't know the title):
I love this song... whoever it's by. I really dug the drumming on this ditty. The guitar isn't shabby either. Overall this is a song that I would call great :)
Move your feet:
Good ol Junior Senior. I remember a few months ago I couldn't stop listening to this song for some strange obscure reason. It's so unbelievably catchy. A stew of different genres that equals fun times in my book.

Now I'm not by a long shot a beatles fan. Most of their stuff rubs me the wrongs way. But a few of theirs songs I do really enjoy. This is one of the few. I love the whole surf jam feel to the song. A nice song with a good relisten value.

John Vanderslice - Me And My 424
I've read a lot of good things about John Vanderslice but this is the first song i've heard. It's a jaunty little number with an underlying current of melancholy courtesy of the the orchestration. I'm a big fan of the musical sub-genre that has been labeled Americana in the UK and this is a pretty good example. Me like.
Junior Senior - Move Your Feet
This song was pretty much unavoidable last summer in the UK (was it that long ago?). I like it. A lot. It's one of those songs that carefully treads ever so close to annoying and by doing so manages to be infectious instead. It's a difficult trick to pull off. Junior Senior manage it with ease.
Kaito - Should I
This must have been a single at some point. I remember hearing it quite a bit on UK music TV and making a mental note to pick up the album at some point. Said mental note went unactioned and hearing the song again has reinforced my intentions. Frankly...this is a fucking ace little spiky punk/pop number that is impossible not to like (surely). Sounds kinda like the sort of thing Karen O of Yeah Yeah Yeahs would do if she was an even bigger mentalist than she already is. Excellent!!!
Franklin Bruno - Clean Needle
I love this. Nice and depressing...just the way I like it. The vocals are borderline tuneless in a way that works and the piano passage that forms the centrepiece of the song is cool as fuck. This kind of music gives me a big ass shiver up and down the spine. Cheers.
Beatles - Back In The USSR
One of the few Beatles songs that doesn't make me want to resurrect John Lennon and shoot the fucker myself. Kinda ok in a not too unbearable sort of way. Honestly...the majority of Beatles songs make me want to smash up whatever hi-fi equipment they are playing on. This one doesn't quite drive me into a rage............not quite.

Yeah I was really impressed with what I saw in Concert. I think I'll be picking up this cd this week. They totally blindsided me when they took the stage. I like this song alot. I actually have almost used up my 5 free plays over the last few days. They don't take themselves too seriously and have this eighties feel to them that really shines. The whole band knows how to work the stage as well. These guys are going to be huuuge in the upcoming weeks.

The Killers - Somebody Told Me
A cracking song. It took me a wee while to get a handle on what this band were all about. Essentially they are sort of like a covers band who cover songs that their idols never wrote. They pluck these songs from the ether and make them their own. Unfortunately the album from whence this song comes is a mixed bag. It's half genius and half cack (Glamorous Indie Rock N Roll has me halfway between pissing myself laughing and wincing in embarassment at how idiotic and awful it is). So...not the revolutionary new band I initially expected. But they are halfway there which is further than most other bands get.

Cripple creek:
I love songs that tell stories well. This song does just that. The lead singers voice has that deep grovel that I find really comforting. The guitar playing is beautiful, it sounds almost like it's being played in a classical sense in some parts. Another outstanding pick!
Gorilaz:
The talent behind this band boggles my mind. Almost every single member is a legend in my eyes as far as music goes. Dan the automater is the greatest thing to ever hit hip-hop. The man has an ear for music that is astonishing. This song had me wiggling around like mostly any gorillaz tune does when it pops on. I love how this song has so many different layers of sounds melding together. Great pick!

The Unicorns are one of those hit and miss bands for me. The songs of their first release sway from really good to mediocre. This song falls somewhere between the two spectrums. It's not too plain yet it isn't the greatest song I've heard by them either. It still is a fun listen though :)

Pharoahs Horses:
Now I'm usually a big fan of the disjointed mess of a song approach but that path doesn't seem to be working with this song. It felt like they were trying too hard to be different rather than making quality music. Just in case I was wrong the first time around I listened to this twice but my opinion didn't change.
Matinee:
I really need to get this cd. I don't know why I'm taking my sweet time because I really need this cd in my collection. This song just is burst after burst of good stuff. The lyrics paint a colorful picture along with the music perfectly complimenting the vocals. Outlandishly good stuff.
Someguys Psychedelic video o' fun:
Who is this? I know these vocals but I can't place where I know them from. I don't whether to bust out the lava lamp turn off the lights and dance around my room with some glowsticks or to be afraid of this video. The wolf headed dancer guy gave me the creeps. A nice video by any standards though thanks someguy!
Elbow:
I really hope no one I've ever known decides to become "The corpse in my bathtub". Not a pretty picture but a great opening line of a song. This song had a sort of Jeff Buckley feel to as far as the guitars went. The music was good but the lead singer really sort of annoyed me halfway through the song. Not to say this song didn't have it's moments. The chorus is really peacefull and there were some spots I liked.

Get Hustle - Pharaohs Horses
Shambolic but in an enjoyable way. Reminds me of the sort of loose, halfcrazed songs Nick Cave used to put out before he got all slick and professional (not a criticism). Good stuff but not good enough that I would go an seek out more of Get Hustle's music.
Deerhoof - Apple Bomb
I like this a lot. The vocals are unusual but suit the song and don't offend my ears in spite of their being quite off key. Never heard of them before and the guitar crescendo near the end of the song took me by surprise (in a good way). Did not see that coming. I will be trying to check these guys out.
Raffi - Bananaphone
Almost unbearable...no...scratch that...actually it is unbearable.
The Police - Every Breath You Take
If my hatred for this song could be converted into energy it would be enough to power an entire city for a year.
Eric Clapton - Tears In Heaven
If my hatred for this song could be converted into energy it would be enough to power every city in the world for eternity.
Gorillaz - 19-2000
Not my favorite Gorillaz track but pretty fine nonetheless. It was cool to see Albarn try his hand at something vastly different from Blur and the entire project was breezily enjoyable.
Mercury Rev - The Dark Is Rising
One of my favorite bands. I only got into them with the release of Deserter's Songs and by the time they released All Is Dream from which this song is plucked I had all their albums and considered them one of the finest bands in the world. I saw them live when they were touring All Is Dream and it was a sublime and uplifting experience. They put on a magnificent show. This song was one of the highlight. Very beautiful indeed.
The Unicorns - Les Os
Reminds me a little of Belle And Sebastian at their most whimsical and fey (perhaps a little more edgy though). I heard one of these guys songs before as a result of this thread and I enjoyed it. I like this one too. A lot. Cheers.

This song is full of mellow goodness. I wrote up this big review about how much I loved this song but I don't have the heart to do it again but trust me, I love this song. :)
Bannaphone:
One word Ugh. Actually two words: Ugh and Nightmare.
Every breath you take:
The best song about stalking ever written. A really creepy song that I don't think most people get what it is about.
Tears in heaven;
This song really gets to me. Subject matter doesn't get sadder than this. A beautiful song about a horrible tragedy.
Gorrilaz:
A great track off an even greater record. A song that's packed to the brim with talent. The Gorillaz where rock n rolls dream team and it shows on this song. Plus Dan the automater the greatest thing to ever happen to hip hop is helping out which adds its appeal as icing on the cake.
Les Os:
I've really gotten into the unicorns over the past months but one thing about them is they are hit and miss for me. This song however falls somewhere in the middle spectrum.
Panthers:
This song is o.k.
Moya:
At first I didn't know what to think of this song. As it progressed it became more and more beautiful. It has this fragile feeling to it almost like they are playing with glass instruments. At least that's how I pictured it. Really beautiful pick.
track 2 (I believe this is Vic Chestnut):
I think this is vic chestnut. Every single song I hear from this guy I love. This song is no different by him or not. A great little ditty. I love the back up singers chiming in. A neat pick!
The conet Project:
Ok at first I thought this was the music for the Ice truck from hell.
Then it just got stranger. Not in a good way.
Nothing else matters:
Ahhh memories of my 8th grade year. Wearing my Metallica black album shirt and believing they were the coolest band in the world second only to Nirvana. *sigh* I'm glad my musical tastes have evolved since then. This is still a great song from metallicas last good album. After this album they would become a joke. This however was one great swan song to go out on. I still find myself singing whenever I hear this song playing wherever I'm at.

I've been really getting into this band thanks to Bubba over in the download tag forums and this song is no different in it's quality. This album will be mine! Yes it will be mine!
Godspeed you black emperor:
I've been meaning to check out this band but for some reason I never really have. I've heard great things and this song shows me that the reviews I've heard speaketh the truth. I love music that uses string instruments to bring about that whole song escalation effect. Beautiful.

First Breath after Coma:
I'm a big fan of purely instrumental songs but this one took too long to get to the goods. The end is actually really nice and had almost nice ambient feel to it but the first half of the song just took way to long to fire up it's engines. Maybe with more listens this one will grow because I did like the second half quite a bit.
The soldiering Life:
I've tried to get into the Decemberists. I've relly tried because they play that surrealish folk I usually end up loving but for some reason every song I hear just leaves me numb and untouched in any way. This song falls into that category, it's almost like they try to hard.

Just a little note for all of you mp3 people...
I found a site that can let you upload songs up to 4MB in size. The only catch is that it can't be offensive. So if you have a song on your computer in the right size(you can download an mp3 convertor and reduce the bitrate of the file so the size is smaller-if you need help on that just PM me)and it isn't that offensive just upload it and put the link on here.

A little info...
I heard 3 songs from this band and loathed every one of them. They are all horrible and still are worthless pieces of crap. This song came out though and I thought it was actually good. It shocked the hell out of me, really. Moviefan1234 knows this song and band. Psychocandy heard one of their songs and loathes them. He literally hates them. So don't listen to this for your own good Psychocandy :)

You know...given the current musical climate and the popularity of hearfelt rock music...i'm slowly drifting towards the conclusion that Embrace were an excellent band in the wrong place at the wrong time. Having just listened to this I can honestly say that their return is most welcome. BTW...did you know that this song was gifted to Embrace by Chris Martin. You can detect his hand in it.

i read that in nme he said he wrote it for coldplay but it sounded far too much like an embrace song, when he played it for danny macnamara he said it was the greatest love song he had never written, great quote i thought, but you can definetly hear his influence.
the album is out on the 13th of september i just hope it finally brings them the success i think they have missed out on so far, hopefully a tour will come about as well because they are a great live band.
