Judging by Jo's review, I suppose that I'm lucky that I didn't have to sit through the entire film but rather downloaded the trailer (that's why this is being posted here rather than "What did you think?"; don't want to break any of Jo's rules).
Leslie Nielsen has done this schtick before and it was a lot more funny, now it seems dated and boring. Mr. Nielsen, please take some constructive criticism -- leave these types of movies alone for a while, perhaps do something dramatic.

Leslie Nielsen is a genius... his deadpan shtick is classic, and movies like "The Naked Gun" series and "Airplane" will always make me laugh. However -- and this is especially evident in his recent stinkers -- he seems so much better than the material. I saw the trailer for "A Space Travesty", and it looks absolutely fucking terrible. I agree, it's time for Leslie to enter retirement. I would just love to see one more quality spoof film written for him, because he deserves it.
I love the guy and it pains me to see him in such dreck and "Spy Hard" and this latest debacle (though, I don't plan on actually SEEING it). I found "Wrongfully Accused" quite funny, even though most of the jokes fell flat. I wonder if I'm all alone with that conclusion...

He should actually stick to his current job, host of the hilarious Canadian show "Liography", a parody of A&E's "Biography". It's great, and he's great in it.

Leslie Neilson is only funny when he works with the Zucker brothers. All the other comedies that he has made without them have been painfully unfunny.

They must have had NO advertising budget, since the IMDb says it opened here on September 7th. I'd never heard of it until Jo reviewed it, although I'm sure if I had read The Daily News or The Chronicle Herald close enough, I would have realized that it had been in Halifax.

So if this piece of crap was funded and released, why the hell wasn't Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey re-released nationwide this year, like MGM has been promising for years it would be? I mean, for God's sakes, it's been obvious all year that its still in the collective pop culture: HAL, the monolith, et al. If The Exorcist could be successfully re-released, why not 2001? Those fuck-ups at MGM really dropped the ball on this one. I mean, for God's sakes, how can you LOSE money on a re-release??

Well recently MGM hasn't exactly been an on-the-ball studio, so they're obviously too stupid to realize how much profit they could make off of a release of 2001. A cool time to have rereleased it would have been January 1, 2001. I can think of the irony now!
Rereleasing isn't exactly expensive, all it takes is a little touch-up, the addition of some deleted scenes, and the distribution to theater owners. I suppose with the advent of DVD however, people aren't as excited to go out and see a newly refurbished movie when they can buy it PLUS have all the extras. And that's unfortunate, because there's nothing like seeing a big movie like 2001: A Space Odyssey on a big screen with big sound.
