Good I love this canadian slasher, it is my favorite slasher ever.
The killer (Harry Warden) is very impressive with his miner outfit, his gaz-mask, his pitchfork, his heavy breath.

You can see it is good production, well above the average anyway.
I like the characters especially the love-triangle (Axel-Sarah-TJ), I think they are likable.
The murder-scenes are not bad at all even if this slasher was heavily cut but even cut this slasher is my favorite.
Another good thing is the uncanny setting, the mines are well used and are certainly a spooky.
The music from Zaza is also good and fits to this movie.

MBV: 10/10

Jason, you are so on target! I have always stated that My Bloody Valentine, is very under appriciated. The thing that always got me, was this is one of the few films from the 80's that had good character developement. You actually gave a shit about the people in it when they got offed! I was really pissed when they killed the very loveable Hollis! When a horror film is character driven it works, the real secret behind the appriciation of this film.

Note: the original title of the film was "The Secret"!

I'm sorry Dead One I couldn't have cared less about the characters in MBV it's a bottom of the barrel slasher flick in my opinion. The villain sounds like a reject from a Darth Vador audition.

I have a friend in high places (at FOX!) I have seen a check disc for "Empire"...they went back and actually inserted the Actor Ian McDiarmid, in the scene where vader is in his chambers! It looks great...I am dead serious! I swear on my life, this is a fact!

You mean the scene where his helmet is about to be re-attached???

The scene where Vader, tells the crew to move the star destoyer out of the astroid field to make a clear transmission. Vader enters his private chamber to communicate with Palpetine.

As follows:

Vader-What is thy bidding, my master...

Palpatine- We have a new enemy...Luke Skywalker!

Remember?:)

cant say I agreee. I was really dissapointed. The love triangle was handled really porrly in my opinion and was waiting for those three annoying jerks to die. Also the killer's motive was not really that coherent atlhough unexpected. Most of the film was either boring or annoying to me. The cave provided some nice atmosphere although it ook forever to get there.

3/10

Where in we see it diffrently, which is cool. The truth of the matter is, my bent on the film is the fact that is was better then most of it's contemporaries by far! There was an awful glut on the 80's market, tons of really bad slasher films plauged movie screens.
So for what it was, My Bloody Valentine is a stand out! Thats just the way I see it, beyond it's technical flaws and it's short comings I enjoy it for what it is. Solid entertainment!

I think I was most annoyed with the fact that I wa s under the impression the entire movie took place in the cave. Instead mos t of it happened in t he town which a lot people say was creepy. I just thought it was really foggy not creppy. When they finally did get into the mine shaft it was a cool setting

The town was used to proper effect, imho. The 3rd act took place at the mine, personally I would have found it a bore had it took place in one location. Certain films have characters trapped in isolated locations, for films like Night of the Living Dead, Evil Dead and the Hills Have Eyes it works! Maybe, had the filmmakers utilized a different approach to MBV. If as you would suggest having the story take place in one isolated location, they could have played the story out via flashbacks. Leading back to the final moments taking place in the mine, sort of telling the story out of sync. Who knows? Think of the possibilities! Interesting stuff! :)

I'vs said this before I quite enjoyed this movie as slashers are my scene, but I will never be able to truly appreciate it until I see an UNCUT print! There WAS NO GORE!!! BOOOOOOOOOOOO!!

However, I've heard rumours that the UNCUT print was destroyed by paramount, BUT apparantly the director has said all along that he has the print in his garage at home or something but nobody has approached him about it.

Any truth in this?

You hardly see Harry Warden, even then it's through flash-back.
He was a red herring, not very original either:(

End Credit song...Oh the legend they say,on a valentines day is a curse that will live on and on...and no one will know as the years come and go. Of the horror from long time ago!!!

Sample lyrics from one of the songs that played in the background at "Happy's Bar" ...Women and wine dont thrill me like they use too...I just play my song right or wrong...

God!...Stop me please!!!;) LOL!

I liked this movie. It had that creepy small-town atmosphere, and a cool backstory. Acting was good too.

I didn't care to much for the characters in this movie actually (but they were better developed than most other 80's-flicks).

2 reasons why I'm a fan of "My Bloody Valentine":

*) The awesome setting of the mine! One of the creepiest environments I've ever witnessed in a horror movie...

*) The killer's outfit...very scary!

I'd give this movie 8/10 I guess.

There's some geezer on EBAY selling a region 2 dvd. He's advertising it as UNCUT. He's got to be bullshitting hasn't he?!! Or is it possible that the european edition slipped through in all it's gory glory?!!!

I own this DVD and it's one of my favorite slashers, for the reasons everybody mentioned. I watch it every Valentine's Day. The laundromat scene is my favorite and very creepy.

The only thing I didn't care for was the rushed explanation at the end of the movie for why the killer did what they did. I did like the flashback though, but I wish we could have gotten one of those "psycho spills all to the final girl/guy" scenes. I think it was needed here.

I have the R rated Paramount DVD but would gather up the funds to get an uncut version if I could. It's easy to tell a hell of a lot of gore was cut out of the film, would be a blast to see it all put back in. But of course we all know that "Paramount" and "uncut" don't belong in the same sentence

and if what !MorganOnyx! is saying is true...
To borrow from the Arrow, I would butcher my family... to own "My Bloody Valentine" UN-CUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

The thing is that as I live in the UK I can get the region 2 dvd easily. I work right next to a supermarket called tesco and they even have it in there for about £7!!! I'm just thinking whether I should risk it. It's PARAMOUNT - surely it's CUT??!! :(

Halo...I think I know what to do about these corporate morons at Para-wont-amount to anything!

Here is what I suggest...we beat them with their own golf clubs, then take an Axe-handle to their colons...after that, we pull out their hair plugs with rusted tweezers one folical at a time!!
To finish the deal, we tie their testicles to the tail pipe of a Greyhound Bus...leaving the driving to us!! Then take them out to the set of Camp Crystal Lake, and make them wear Jason Vorhees is pussy T-shirt...leaving them in the hands of Kane Hodder in his Jason get up! Making sure that we give Hodder a massive dose of the rage virus...then let him do his THING!!!
Heh,heh,heh,:p

JAGGED HALO -

Thought so. 'Spaz-burbs'? I don't even know what that means, but I know it's an insult so I'll agree with you. Here's my 50 cents worth - WANKERS, PRICKS, TWATS, SCUMBAGS, CUNTS, FUCKERS, GRANNY SHAGGERS. I'm done....for now.

THE DEAD ONE -

I agree. :)

I do have a question, has anyone else ever hear that the director claims to have an un-cut print of MBV...Just Curious?
