I'll elaborate tomorrow night but i've been listening to Vauxhall And I for two days now (I used to own it but a friend borrowed/stole it and I only just got around to buying a new copy). I'm now 100% convinced that it's the best album that Morrissey has ever been involved in. Better than The Queen Is Dead? Fuck yes!!! Anyone agree? Anyone disagree? Answers via email to Psychocandy@Idon'tfuckingcarebecausei'mright.com. Oh...and how good is Speedway? What an adrenaline rush of a song and a brilliant way to close a masterpiece of an album.

Vauxhall(named after a tube station in London near where Morrissey used to live), or Withnail, or whatever its called..

you are right. Its a beautiful fucking album. He was actually planning on retiring after this one, but...didn't.
Apparently it was because of contractual obligations that he kept going for the final two (pieces of crap). either that, or the guy
just couldn't keep his mouth shut.

Speedway is a great track, but I feel the need to mention another little ditty - THE LAZY SUNBATHERS. It sports my very favorite Morrissey line: "Children shelled? That's all very well, but could you please keep the noise down?..

There's actually a REALLLLLY neat story behind that song:

in the first days after Germany invaded Poland there was a HUGE heat wave in Berlin (and a holiday, too, I think?) and people FLOCKED to a lake in the city called the Wahsnee in a bizarro state of denial..

Its no Bona Drag/Viva Hate, though.. and it most certttainly is nowhere NEAR the godliness that Queen Is Dead.

I'll fucking arm wrestle over that, Psycho... :D

Fuck R&J...

I think i'd take you up on that arm-wrestling challenge if a transatlantic arm-wrestle was a possibility. I think i'd win too. I'll try over the course of the next few days to come up with some legitimate reasons for me thinking it's better than The Queen Is Dead (as for Bona Drag/Viva Hate though...please...don't even try to win that one...i'd go all Jeff Goldblum in The Fly on your ass). :D

Oh...and btw...don't read me wrong...The Queen Is Dead is a fucking amazing album...but please don't try to argue that Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others is a better closing track than Speedway.

LOL -

Granted, granted... but a closing track does not an album make.

Howwwever!

Consider the singles on QID to Vuxhall:

Bigmouth Strikes
the Boy With a Thorn In His Side
There Is a Light That Never Goes Out.

-vs-

The more you ignore me
Hold On To Your Friends
Now My Heart Is Full (in which is the hairy bastard poses naked on the cover - minus one point)

is there any comparison.. like, whatsoever?!

I love you!

No one EVER lets me talk about Moz with them. :D For obvious reasons, of course..

I haven't heard much of his solo stuff, but the work he did with The Smiths was pretty amazing. His new stuff is pretty good, too.

I was thinking about the moz the other day. How there will never be another person like him on this earth. The man just stands on his own in his own way making fantastic music. The world is just a bit better because of it.

As far as the argument above... Queen is dead is the better album but by a schmidgen. Best single ever goes to: Everyday Is Like Sunday. Epic song that one is.

As great as the Moz is, you can't forget the equally amazing Johnny Marr. His guitar playing is just.... so amazing, subtle and inventive. He's inspired legions, even if they aren't aware.
