Here, I am a HUGE Cure fan, I heard the new Single the other nght on the radio. I love it. Sounds a lot like their old stuff, which is a good thing. The single is called "The end of the world". Catch it out ASAP!

I'm halfway through listening to this right now and my immediate reaction to what i've heard so far is that this is the closest they have ever come to producing something as majestic as Disintegration. If the rest of the album maintains the level of quality displayed by the first five songs then it's getting a solid 9/10. I was disappointed by Bloodsongs. It was half a great album. This is much more like it.

Us Or Them is fucking awesome. Smith sounds like he's at the end of his tether while the band conjure up a bilious soundscape full of torment driven rage. Brilliant stuff.

I'm thinking about buying this. I haven't heard the new single and Disintegration is one of my favorite albums ever and if this is supposedly just as good, I'm there.

It's not as good as Disintegration...but it's probably the closest they have come since. I enjoyed Wish but it was a bit schizophrenic. It was a head on collision between POP CURE and ROCK CURE. It worked well but didn't feel as cohesive as Disintegration. Wild Mood Swings was all over the place and left me kind of cold. There are good songs on there but they are weighed down and drowned by the cack. Then came Bloodflowers (not Bloodsongs as I erroneously stated in my prior post). It was supposed to be the thematic conclusion to the trilogy of albums that started with Pornography and continued with Disintegration. It's not a patch on either of those. The new album is a little bit better than Wish and a lot better than Wild Mood Swings and Bloodflowers. It's not quite as good as Disintegration.
Disintegration - 10/10
Wish - 8/10
Wild Mood Swings - 5/10
Bloodflowers - 6/10
The Cure - 9/10 (this could go up or down after I live with it a little longer)

I CANNOT WAIT! The Cure is one of my favorite bands ever!
And when I hear it`s supposed to be more like their old stuff, that gets me even more excited!
Psychocandy I pretty much agree with you about "Wild Mood Swings (some good songs, but album doesn`t 'flow' at all) and "Bloodflowers" (flows very well, but not all the songs are great).
Though personally I have found that "Bloodflowers" gets much better the more you listen to it.:)

The Album comes out Tuesday. So far all I have heard if "The End of The World" and I told myself to just wait untill the Cd is released, insted of downloading it as I would usualy do. Cant friggen wait though, if it is half as good as Disintegration(10/10) It will be some great, moody, Brilliant stuff.

I just got through listening to the first single and I must say that the song is just a magical as their old stuff. I am a huge Cure fan and they have definitley hit a mark with this song. I will be sure to buy this CD when it comes out. And I can't wait to go see them in concert this July.

Ok...i've had a couple of days to let this settle in. My more educated opinion is that it's perhaps not quite as good as I initially thought. It certainly doesn't come close to Disintegration (what does though?). I'd even hesitate to say that it's a better album than Wish. I have a real soft spot for that album. It is a pretty complex piece of work though and it could be that it's going to take a while for it to sink it's hooks into me. The first time I listened to Disintegration I thought it was very average. It took a long time to creep into my psyche. Wish was more immediate than Disintegration simply because it's a more approachable collection of songs. Sure there are morose moodscapes on Wish to rival those on Disintegration but there are plenty of pure pop moments that knock your socks off immedately. The Cure is a cracking album but i'd like to lower my score to something around 7.5/10 at the moment.

I had quite the opposite reaction. It was love at first listen.
Anyway, the new album doesn't approach Disintegration in terms of consistency, you're right.
But its still a very nice album. Nothing mind-blowing, but an album that should grow on me. Some songs have already struck me as simply gorgeous, like Labyrinth, Alt.End and The Promise. Sadly, others have left me unmoved.
If I'd rank their discography (from what I've heard):
1. Disintegration
2. Pornography
3. The Head on The Door
4. Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me
5. The Cure
6. Seventeen Seconds
7. Bloodflowers
8. Wish
9. Wild Mood Swings

I just bought it and listened to it and I have to say it's by far the best CD I've heard this year. I've only heard three of The Cure's records, which are Pornography, Disintegration, and this. I liked every song on the album and I have to say this may be the best CD I've listened to of the 2000's. I may have to give it a few more listens to see if it matches up to Disintegration. Us or Them is a fantastic song and my favorite of the album.

I'm suffering from wild mood swings (lame joke alert) where this album is concerned. Every listen reveals something new. I particularly love how angry Smith sounds on some of the songs and the closing track, The Promise is just amazing. I think this will rank quite highly in my year end Best Of list. So far it's been a great year for music.

I`ll be picking it up during my break at work today. I`ll be sure to post my thoughts on it.

All I can say is WOW! This is one of their best. Robert shines on all the songs. His voice is louder on this one then any of their other albums. I think the band lineup is one of the best yet. As for the dvd that came with the disk, I dont think its all that great. It's a bit boring. But as a Cure fan its a wonderful collector's item. I cant wait to see them in Atlanta on July 29th. I dont think I can sleep until then.

Wow.
I have to say, I`m a little dissapointed.
This is NOT what I was expecting at all. I thought this was supposed to be more like their 80`s stuff......but it`s not really.
To me, this feels like a collection of b-sides.........not unlike "Wild Mood Swings".
However, I really love the song "Anniversary", This is the kind of material I was expecting.
I find it hard to believe that everyone is going nuts over this album.......yet no one seemed to give two hoots when "Bloodflowers" came out. Cause "Bloodflowers" was a much better album, if you ask me.

Just wanted to say a few of the songs have grown on me, namely "Before Three", "End Of the World", and "I Don`t Know Whats Going On".
But I still don`t think it`s a very good album.
