Alright, I've got a cross-country road trip coming up, and I just netted the first paycheck I've ever had, so my shopping list is as such:

Beck-Sea Change
Franz Ferdinand-Self titled
The Von Bondies-Lack of Communication
Elliot Smith-Schmoes help now
Belle & Sebastian-Schmoes help now

So, for the last two artists, all I know is that I want a CD by them, I don't know which one. Any recommendations? Any reason I shouldn't get the first three?

I have four Belle & Sebastian albums and I would suggest fold your hands child, you walk like a peasant, it's the first one I got and the one I like the most. I'll most likely be the only one to suggest that one though, you'll probably get a lot of suggestions to pick up Tigermilk, Dear Catastrophe Waitress and If You're Feeling Sinister instead; all good albums in their own right.

Great call on Franz Ferdinand, by the way...

For Belle and Sebastian, I'd suggest Tigermilk. I think it's their best, thus far.

You can't go wrong with any Elliott Smith. I'm partial to XO, though Either/Or is also quite fantastic.

Let me know what you think of Sea Change. I have Mellow Gold and Odelay and like them both. Lost Cause is also one of my favorite Beck songs.

I see your Franz Ferdinand and I raise you an Electric Six.

I've listened to Electric Six a bit lately, they're alright, but a little too hokey.

Also, in a completely unrelated choice, I'm getting The Best of Dusty Springfield.:D

No, seriously.

I'm a proud owner of that as well...

Hmm...I went out today and got the Franz, and Figure 8 and XO by Elliott Smith. I've checked 10 different stores, but Lack of Communication isn't available anywhere, so I'm going to try to find that, as well as the rest, en route. Thanks for the advice, schmoes.
