Still bringing in goods amount of cash, Wolfgang Petersen's action epic TROY held at #2 with a 30% drop. After 4 weeks the Brad Pitt flick has a staggering $19,142,458 (US $197,684,358), taking it #62 on the All Time Australian Box Office list. Debuting surprisingly higher than THE PUNISHER and earning a better than expected first week intake, Kate Hudson's romantic comedy/drama RAISING HELEN raised $1,353,609 for itself, but has managed $1,435,434 (US $14,823,741) taking into accounts its Mother's Day screening in early May. New kid on the Marvel block, Tom (formerly Thomas) Jane could only manage $875,581 (US $9,042,133) with THE PUNISHER earning the lowest first week intake of any of the Marvel flicks. Still claiming a position in the Top 5 after 5 weeks in release is newly crowned Tony Award winner Hugh Jackman's vampire slaying alter ego VAN HELSING. The action hit has totalled a respectable $12,012,472 (US $124,052,920), making the 9th Highest Grossing film of 2004 so far. The other two main releases for the week, SUPER SIZE ME and INTERMISSION earned higher than expected debuts both making it into the Top 10. The McDonald's based doco placed at #6 with $353,746, taking its total to $578,972 (US $5,979,049), whilst the small budget Colin Farrell comedy/thriller placed at #9 with $111,002 (US $1,146,318). Crossing the million dollar mark, but dropping 53% in the process, Ashley Judd's TWISTED thriller spent its third week just on the edge of the Top 10. The Andy Garcia accompanied flick has racked up $1,068,601 (US $11,035,453). Halle Bery saw a considerable drop this week, taking her stay in GOTHIKA out of the Top 10 where its spent a total of 5 weeks. Its 6th week is spent at #14, where it has accumulated $4,509,640 (US $46,571,098). Popping up towards the end of the chart this week was the duo of Dutch drama TWIN SISTERS and french comedy BON VOYAGE. The former, released on 12 screens, debuted with $68,170 (US $703,992), whilst the latter, with a 9 screen count, managed $61,111 (US $631,093). Rounding things off this week was DAWN OF THE DEAD which had a less than eventful weekend of Advanc e Screenings before it opens nationally this week. Not a wide release of Preview Screenings, the horror update has $47,621 (US $491,782) to call its own. Hopefully we'll add a few more million to that.
