View Full Version : EVERYONE'S Top 10 List

DaN
02-14-2001, 10:30 AM
I've been here a while, and I've seen many many many lists. But now there's been a crapload of new shmoes to start posting. I think it's time that we just set our Top 10 lists DOWN and make them final.

1. A Clockwork Orange
2. Braveheart
3. The Exorcist
4. Pulp Fiction
5. Young Frankenstein
6. Taxi Driver
7. 2001: A Space Odyssey
8. Goodfellas
9. The Third Man
10. Amadeus

COMMENTS: I know that it is probably severely unhealthy to put Young Frankenstein so high on the best movies ever made. But I keep on watching it basically ever weekend, and the damn thing won't die out. And I just love it too much to put it lower.
This is the outcome of a top 10 list that I've had for well over 5 months. It just changes every once in a while.

JUST OUTSIDE: find my top 100 list and Read it.

DON'T WORRY EVERYONE! PLEASE! STEP AWAY FROM THE KNIFE! I'll let all you know that I'm undergoing severe torture for my sin against humanity. This sin being...can I say it...not seeing Boogie Nights. So don't worry, My suffering is more than filling up that gap. But "Ricardo" wont stop the pain! How the hell am i supposed to watch the damn movie? I'll have to think of something smart (falls down bawling with laughter).

Screamer: I have to tell you, it is hard as hell to sneak movies into my house these days. That's how I see most movies that make my lists. I sneak em by. And the best thing is that thiyre free. My library has a BIGASS collection of movies (no new releases though). So I have to get em there and sneak em beyond my parents. I've been trying with Boggie Nights for a few months now. I'm growing impatient...

Shhhhh...don't tell Brock. Oh wait. Crap. /ubb/wink.gif

Umm, I think I'll admit this now. I have not see Boogie Nights R-rated all the way through. It's not my fault, however. My mother won't let me rent it or buy it. She keeps a close eye on everything I own, so I can't sneak out and buy it. I have seen it many times on F/X though.

Oh, I just realized that I forgot to put my list. Despite it's common fluxuations, here is my list:

1. The Usual Suspects
2. Fight Club
3. American History X
4. The Shawshank Redemption
5. Clerks
6. Pulp Fiction
7. Toy Story 2
8. Evil Dead 2
9. Se7en
10. TIE-Monty Python's Holy Grail & X-Men

Keep in mind, however, that my top 6 are all equal, and that Toy Story 2, which I at one time had as being perfect, has since dropped to about a 9.75 rating. The next movie, Evil Dead 2, I have ranked at exactly 9.3122317845, followed by Se7en at 9.222463718, then Monty Python and X-Men are equal at 9.0795843. Those, plus my #11 movie, are the only ones I have ranked higher then a 9. #11 is Dogma, which is rated 9.0018573.

Retard, your list is pretty good, but how could you like X-Men. That movie was a complete waste of time. I mean even for a summer action movie that was mindless. The dialouge was so bad I thought I had lost a piece of my intelligence after viewing it. I love Halle Berry to death (she is hot), but she can't act. Neither can the rest of that cast.

OK, the decimal thing was meant as a joke. I don't really rate down to the exact decimal. My top six are all 10/10. Toy Story 2 is 9.5/10. The rest are 9/10.

My explanation of X-Men. A Guilty Pleasure. I LOVED the comic books, the cartoon, the trading cards(I've got at least $5000 of Marvel Universe cards) and the movie was great in my opinion. Sure, the acting wasn't superb, but it wasn't meant to be. It wasn't meant to be taken seriously, kinda like with Evil Dead 2. It was over the top. If you look at any of the Evil Dead movies that way, they sucked. The acting was horrible in all of them(except with the man Bruce Campbell), but it was supposed to be horrible. It was more of a farce than a serious movie. Like I said, it's a guilty pleasure.

I absolutely hate compiling Top 10 Films but I havent done it for a while so Ill try & somehow filter it down. Obviously in no order, & this list changes every 12 months or so, god Im way to pedantic about my films.

VonEerie999

Rupert,I must agree with you on "State of Grace".It was overshadowed by "Goodfellas"...but Scorcese's epic was so sprawling...it just consumed all films in that genre at the time of release. And,in a classic case of art imitating life, the Italian mob one-upped the Irish.
Great performances by all:Sean Penn,Gary Oldman,Ed Harris,Robin Wright,John C.Reilly,Burgess Meredith...a great cast skillfully directed by Jonau.
This movie was loosely based on the great book "The Westies-Inside the Hell's Kitchen Irish Mob".A terrific read, and remarkably true to the neighborhood and it's "criminal" element.I grew up on West 48th and 10th Avenue in New York City, right in the heart of where the movie and book take place. So,these projects obviously strike home with me.
Rupert Pupkin...one of my favorite Deniro roles. It was cool seeing him affect a "pathos" mentality for a change. The flick("King of Comedy")showcases some of Scorcese's more ambitious moments as a director.Loved it through and through.

PS-It is "Thor-A" that I "adore-A"...

magnumpi28, approximately half of the board is comprised of teens, I believe Dan is 15. I myself am 14 (fortunately with no restrictions as to what I can see) and there are hundreds our age on the board as well. This board is a place where people of all origins, races, religions, sexes, and ages can come together, united by a common intrest: the love of film. That's why I love this board, hopefully you will too, welcome.

Yo GREEN -

Youse a pretty cool dude. ABOVE THE RIM is fucking excellent and PAC is a great bad guy in BIRDIE. I take it you like PAC. I also take it you a big basketball fan. Who's your team?

P.S. - If you like PAC in bad boy gangsta roles, have you seen BULLET? What did you think?

Green
04-01-2001, 03:48 PM
Yeah I have seen Bullet, every movie he has been in has been above average to great.
My favorite Rap/hiphop albums
1. Bone Thugs-N-Harmony - E.1999 Eternal (1995)
2. 2pac - Me Against The World (1995)
3. Warren G - Regulate...G Funk Era (1994)

My two favorite basketball teams
Miami Heat: Great to see Zo back on the court, The Eastern Conference better look out. The last 3 springs have been terrible losing to the hated knicks especially last year, I almost slit my throat!
Orlando Magic: Heart and Hustle, probably going to be the 7th seed and going to knock off the Bucks! Grant Hill will be back next year.

GREEN -

I agree. I love all of PACS' movies. I've got them all. I've also got all of the albums you're talking about. Back in the days when i was just coming to love rap, WARREN G was my favourite. REGULATE is a classic. THA CROSSROADS by BONE is also a classic. My favourite PAC album is ALL EYEZ ON ME - straight up thuggin'!

My team is the SONICS and has been ever since i was 12 when i came to America for the first time. You can imagine my frusrations this year! Our record is good enough to make the playoffs for the east, but the west is so tough, looks like the SUNS are gonna grab the last spot. But hey! Season sweep of the LAKERS! LOVE IT!!! If they ain't careful though, PAYTON will leave.

1.) Dancer in the Dark
2.) Urbania
3.) The Rapture
4.) Bridget Jones' Diary
5.) Santa Sangre
6.) Elvira, Mistress of the Dark (sorry, but it's sooooo funny and campy, and she rocks! --- can't wait for the 2nd movie, "Elvira's Haunted Hills" to hit theatres this Halloween!)
7.) Magnolia
8.) Requiem for a Dream
9.) Living in Oblivion
10.) all 3 "Anne of Green Gables" movies (even the third one, which most LM Montgomery fans hated, but I still loved)

This question was HARD!!! Although these are my all-time TOP 10, I also love the old Hitchcock film "Rebecca," "All About Eve," "The Birds," "The Innocents," "The Shining," "Charlie's Angels," "The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert," and "Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion," as well as at least 80 or 90 others.

Alright I'm gonna do my best not to embarrass myself. I wrote this kinda of quickly but I doubt much woul be chanched if I dwelled on it for hours. Here goes:
10 - Broken Arrow (I know it is not a marvel but Travolta rocks as the bad guy)
9 - Armageddon
8 - 12 Monkeys (Got to love a movie whose beginning is it's end)
7 - Jurassic Park (Still in awe since the first day I saw it)
6 - Matrix (What if...? Anyways sure makes you wonder about chicken though!)
5 - Die Hard (Willis is the only one to play the smartass "Takes a Lickin' Keeps on Tickin'" supercop I can fully enjoy.
4 - Seven (Twisted is the only way to describe this movie. But pure fun to watch. Spacey, Freeman, and Pitt are stellar).
3 - Edward Scissorhands (A complete parody of suburbs but an insightful view of prejudicial stereotypes)
2 - Ferris Beuller's Day Off (The ultimate in teen comedies, it's only two real rivals being Breakfast Club and American Pie. But admit it all your hearts stopped at the final Ferrari scene).
1 - American History X (Stellar script with great performances. If you loved it see White Man's Burden with Travolta)

Close calls:
Breakfast Club, American Pie, Silence Of the Lambs, Grease, Clockwork Orange, One Flew Over.., Schindler's List, and Gone With the Wind.

I appreciate that. But, I'll explain why I like Beetle Juice. That is not a film for everyone, I know that. But, as a kid, I grew up watching it over and over and over. It is not a great film, but a very original and entertaining (for me). I'd probably give it an 8/10. One movie that I can sit down to and watch, knowing that I will be entertained, and it doesn't get worse with each viewing like some films, it stays the same for some reason. I absolutely love the black humor it has, some parts just crack me up. Also the satiric quality it has. Like I said before, I like the originality of it. It doesn't bother me if you don't like it, close friends of mine hate its guts. I like to think to myself that I see something they don't, this is the movie I like, and no one else.

*LOL*

Yeah, originally I gave Casablanca an 8/10, I think. Then it grew to 9/10, then 10/10, then Top 10, and now...here we are. :) That 11/10 rating must've been a one-time thing, though. I thought I'd never done that.

Wow, my list has sure changed. Some of the movies in the list I posted there aren't even in my Top 100 now.

Here's my Top 10 now...

Glad to see that Casablanca now takes the # 1 spot, Colin! :) It had also been # 1 on my list for a while before along with Citizen Kane.

Wow, my list sure have changed since I joined, when I first joined I also had movies on my top 10 that are not even in my top 100 anymore (for example Requiem for a Dream and A Beautiful Mind).
