Next of Kin (Aka Return to Montclare - New Zealand- Williams)

The Ugly is for me the second best New Zealandian horror movie, the first being Next of Kin.
It is a very creepy and gloomy thriller. If you like Mario Bava, Argento and Hitchcock you will love this atmospheric movie.
I was very impressed by the directing, this film has a slow pace but it does not bore at all because of its dark atmosphere.
Don't expect a bucket of blood it is not about that, it is all about atmosphere.
The acting is pretty good and believable, Next of Kin has a documentary look and that's another good point.

If you like unusual, disturbing thriller this is for you.

Just bought Next of Kin and watched it. Some very nice camera movements and the gothic retirement home is an interesting setting. The best scenes have to be the knocking at the window and keyhole scene. Don’t want to give too much away. Jackie Kerin is good in the lead although the way she turned into Linda Hamilton at the end was out of left field. Overall a solid thriller from down under.
