The Wild Bunch with Ernest Borgine and William Holden...Saw it on AMC tonight, think I saw it when I was much younger, but I fully appreciated it even more when I saw it tonight..Noticed how much it has influenced other directors...A lot of Western cliches were started here..Movie was very, very, very good and I hope others express their love for this..

Sam Peckinpah is/was the definitive action movie director. His style was new and different to moviegoers then, and still, today, his movies are just mind-boggling. The Wild Bunch ages very well, and I dig the action in the movie, especially, yes, most especially, the final sequence which in INCREDIBLE!! Not to mention the rest of the film. There was some great acting, especially Holden, and the character development was, well, we don't see too much of that these days. What more can be said about this classic? I still think it is Peckinpah's best film.

My favorite western, but don't leave out "The Searchers", second, and "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly" which is my third.

I have not seen many westerns but my favorite would have to be Unforgiven. I mean how can you beat a cast that includes Clint Eastwood, Morgan Freeman and Gene Hackman. It just doesn't get any better than this.

Westerns equal shit ...
I mean who likes westerns ...
I actually know a guy who likes Clint Eastwood and he called himself the Space Cowboy, it was a long time before the movie came out.

My favorite westerns would be Tombstone and Young Guns.

I Love WESTERNS and to say stuff like that is ridiculous I mean haven't you seen anything by Sergio Leone(The Good,The Bad and The Ugly,Fistful Of Dollars & Once upon a time in the West)or John Ford who made over a 100 films many of which were great westerns (Stagecoach,The Seachers,The Man who shot liberty Valance and many more. Don't be so hard on the Genre it's got it's problems just like any other genre how about Hawks Rio Bravo and The Red River that's a big statement "I mean who likes westerns ..." you know that people like westerns on this thread or the topic wouldn't have been started and there wouldn't have been 2 post before you.I think people like mindless action movies these days pure FLUFF or (popcorn movies)I think people get a little scared when they see it accompanied with a story line that makes you think about the characters and what kind of situation there in. I'm not specking for you just stating something I think about why people don't give the genre a chance you may have a completely different reason and I would love to hear it not just "Westerns equal shit ..." tell me more to what extent and why. It would be much appreciate.

oh yeah and the wild bunch kick-major-ass

Unforgiven is the best without a doubt. Gene Hackman stole that show, but Freeman and Eastwood are great actors as well.

Tombsone was pretty good either. It was better than the Kevin Costner movie by far.

From Unforgiven-

(Hackman)"The Duck of Death"

(Richard Harris)"Ahhh, That's Duke, DUKE of Death"

(Hackman *with evil glare*) "Duck I says"

I just don't see how in the heck "Unforgiven" is better than "The Wild Bunch", that blows my mind. I just don't see it, or maybe it's because you guys haven't seen too many westerns, that is likely the case.

True, I haven't seen many westerns, and I have not seen THE WILD BUNCH. I'll have to check it out. However, I really enjoyed Unforgiven. It's one of my favorites.

Another good western than I forgot is SHANE (1953).

I love every western, all are brilliant and original F-U-N gunho times. I used to watch em' every saturday night with my Grandpa (known as Bubba, whos real name is Western. An American WWII Hero) Until he died last summer. Everytime i see one i love it even more now. Some of my favs are McClintock, Blazzing Saddles, every Wayne & Eastwood Western is awsome!

By far the best western has to be Tombstone! Val Kilmer plays his role great.

Val Kilmer: I'll be your huckleberry.
