What's your top NIGHTMARE?

The first Nightmare gave me many nightmares as a wee lad. It's not that scary anymore, but it's still suitably creepy and downright evil in tone (something the sequels are missing, with the exception of New Nightmare).

"Help me! Help me! Save me from...FREDDY!"

#1, the only one of the series (aside from NEW NIGHTMARE) where Freddy hasn't become a big joke. He actually generated some fear in this one. Aside from the awful ending, this is a grade-A horror flick.

Dream Warriors is by far my favourite Elm Street flick, it had a better story, kills and characters, downside was Freddy being less scary and out of the shadows. But still a great film IMO.

Not a big fan of the series at all. I've always found Freddy to be very annoying with the movies ranging from average to way below average. Here's the way the series breaks down for me (I haven't seen parts 2 and 5 yet):

A Nightmare on Elm Street (4/10)
A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (6/10)
A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master (5/10)
Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare (3/10)
Wes Craven's New Nightmare (7/10)
Freddy vs. Jason (6/10)

It's a close call, but the original because I remember me and some friends gettting a copy of the VHS and watching it about a thousand times during the summer of 1984! :) Ahhh, happy times!

Hot on its' heels though is Dream Warriors, and then New Nightmare. The rest of the entries in in the series are good fun, and I watch them on a fairly regular basis, but they can't hold a candle to parts 1, 3 and WCNN.

Can't beat the original , everything seemed to work in this film from the acting , to the creepy atmosphere , to the tension , to the lighting , to the music , to the set design , it's just perfect , and the sequels never really reached those dizzying heights again , although i agree 3 is prob the second best , it still can't compete with the first . Once Freddy became the homeless Rodney Dangerfiled , the series lost it's edge signifigantly , which happens in part 2 , but recovers somewhat in 3 ( love the original theatrical trailer for this one ) , then just keeps on getting worse with each new chapter .

They are all still entertaining , just not as effective as the first . And how can you go wrong with a young Heather Langenkamp and Johhny Depp in the same horror movie ?

Nightmare on Elm Street: 9/10
What can I say? A classic.

Freddy's Revenge: 6/10
Even as an 11 year old I caught the homosexual undertones. But the pool party scene was -awesome-. Would've been 5, but the party helped it out.

The Dream Warriors: 9/10
I -love- this movie!!!! The core death scenes were replaced with fight scenes, but even the non-core death scenes were awesome! Plus it takes place in a mental institution, which gives it a very fresh twist.

The Dream Master: 8/10
Had the attitude and drive like the last one, and visually it was done very well. Slow motion, weird camera angles, and the coloring was awesome. A lot of reds and greens. Nice touch.

The Dream Child: 2/10
Gag me! EUGH. Not only did I not give a shit about any of the characters that died (Save for Alice's boyfriend), but there were only...3 deaths!? C'mon. Not to mention the whole Dream Child plot just didn't do anything for me.

Freddy's Dead: 8/10
Hey, I first saw this movie when it was in 3D. What a ride for a 9 year old! Plus Maggie's one of my favorite characters. However, the death scenes were limited to only 3(?!?!) again. But I liked the characters. They weren't one-dimensional and I thought they were written well.

Wes Craven's New Nightmare: 5/10
Eugh. Bland. Boring. Heather can't even play herself. The kid annoyed the shit out of me, even more than Jacob. What gave this a higher rating thant Dream Child were the kills. Loved the killer glove, the disembowling, and of course "Skin the cat." Plus Freddy's style was pretty cool. Dug the trenchcoat.

Freddy vs. Jason: 6/10
This one gets an A for effort. Again, I didn't give a shit about any of the characters. Would've liked to see SOMEONE from the original series. Death scenes were fun, and Yu has a great eye for directing, and loves his colors. I loved the shot where Freddy leaps out of the water. Great shot. And his demonic facade that was merely touched upon in that one shot. Great way to look at Freddy this movie was. Could've done without that "Man the torpedos" line. Bah.

A Nightmare On Elm Street. In my opinion, the scariest one. But Dream Warriors is a very close second.

Now my listing for the Nightmare series, (favorite on the top of the list) goes like this.

A Nightmare On Elm Street

The Dream Master
Wes Craven's New Nightmare
The Dream Child
Freddy's Dead
Freddy's Revenge

It's gotta be ANOES. There is no other film in this series that is as creepy as the original ANOES. It's not as creepy now that I've seen the others in the series, but man, when I was little and I first saw this flick, I was so scared.

The List in the order I like them
7. Freddy's Revenge 6/10
6. Freddy's Dead 6/10
5. The Dream Child 7/10
4. Dream Master 7/10
3. Dream Warriors 8/10 DOKKEN RULES! (sorry I couldnt help it)
2. New Nightmare 10/10

Who are you to tell me that my lineup is wrong? People have different opinions man! Face it!

To me, Nightmare 1 was good but didn't hold the power to me that everyone else got out of it. Yes, Freddy was freaky but I didn't really feel on edge whenever he came around, and it seemed like other parts of the movie didn't live up to Freddy himself. And that ending with the booby traps... Seesh!

To me, even though Freddy was making one-liners in Nightmare 3, he delivered them with a serious and cynical side that didn't make him look like the retard he became in other entries. Plus, it felt like the movie kept up with itself. Not to mention the freaky gigantic worm form Freddy takes on when he tries to devour Kristin. *shudders*

New Nightmare... Freddy just came off off dead serious. Even when he made a couple attempts at one-liners, he said them with such a cold, harsh, and serious tone that it freaked me out. I still get shivers when he utters, "Meet your maker..."

But anyway, that's why I enjoy Nightmare 3 and 7 more than the original. Just deal with it. Hell, no one here is going to necessarily agree with my opinions. That's fine. But to make it sound like my opinion is wrong is just disrespectful.

FVJ was great, mostly because Jason kicked Freddy's ass in the end. But then again, I hate this series more than any horror series in existence, so that's a slanted opinion.

The Elm St. series are a sentimental fav of mine even though they weren't all especially good. I grew up during "Freddymania" in the 80's when Krueger was as big a pop-icon as Mr. T.

A Nightmare on Elm St: The one that started it all. An eerie dream-like quality pervades this film. The kills are graphic and Fred Krueger is a real scary mo-fo in this one. Great pacing, a delicious score, and wonderfully creepy atmosphere make this film a winner. An iconic horror movie! (10/10)

Freddy's Revenge: Mark Patton is about the most annoying lead ever cast. And yes, the movie is loaded with homo-erotic overtones. It's biggest problem is that it's very slow in parts, it just feels very uneven. The ending with Freddy ripping out of Jesse's stomach and the pool scene save this one from total obscurity. (5/10)

Dreamwarriors: Great cast and cool plot this time! I dug the dream-powers thing and also the FX in this one. The Freddy worm, the Phillip puppet, "Welcome to prime-time, bitch!!!" So many cool moments in this movie. (8.5/10)

The Dream Master: Didn't care for the cast as much and also didn't like the way Freddy effortlessly dispatched the survivoring Dreamwarriors. Freddy started hamming it up in this one and it was the beginning of the series' downward spiral. (6/10)

The Dream Child: Hated everyone in this movie and very little carnage. The film's saving grace is the cool gothic atmosphere and excellent editing served up by Stephen Hopkins. (4/10)

Freddy's Dead: Complete and utter shite! A horribly cheesey and ridiculous way to "end" a beloved horror franchise. I can't believe that director Rachael Talahay was the same person that produced the first four movies. Freddy has a daughter? WTF?! The trippy dream sequences are the only cool shit in this film. (2/10)

New Nightmare: Wes Craven revisits and attempts to revitalize his legacy in this movie. Great concept jilted by weak performances, bad dialogue, and uneven pacing. And Nancy's kid Dylan made me laugh more than anything else. I did appreciate the fact that Wes made Freddy "scary" again. Really dug the Krueger make-up FX for this one. Not bad but not great. (6/10)

Freddy Vs. Jason: If I had to use one word to describe this film it'd be FUN! It's cast was decent and the story was adequate. The fight itself was beyond awesome. Like a WWE cage match from Hell! It was great watching these two horror icons finally go at it. Enjoyed this movie immensley, probably more than I should have. (7/10)

The original was the best followed by 3.

The only beef I have with anything after 2 was that they started showing too much of Freddy's face. He was more scary in the first two movies when they kept his face partially obscured.

They went back to that in New Nightmare which I liked alot as well.

Tough call, but I'm going to say

1st- A Nightmare On Elm Street 3:Dream Warriors- It was my first horror movie at age seven, and I absolutely loved it! The kills are more inventive, the cinematography was nicer, great SFX(minus the Freddy skeleton), creepy looking Freddy and some decent women to look at :). The begining was excellent with the Freddy shadow and him right behind Kristen!

2nd- ANOES- Creepy Freddy, great SFX despite budget, cool locales(school, jail cell), dark lighting, and one of the scariest moments in motion picture history when Freddy pops up from beside Nancy's bed after she wakes up! Perfect!!! This is where Craven should be NOW

3rd- WCNN- Cool kills(though few), dark vibe, sinister Freddy, solid SFX, better acting than the rest IMO, good editing and camera work as well!!! The very ending was somewhat painful though:)

After those, maybe part 2, only due to its dark tone and an evil Freddy. His makeup looked more realistic here iMO.

This is one of the most overrated horror series.

Gotta go with New Nightmare. Who would have thought giving freddy a trench coat would make him that much more meanacing!

I voted for A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET. It may actually be a tie between A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET and A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 3: DREAM WARRIORS, which isn't an option on this poll.

Freddy Krueger is my favorite horror movie villain. :D

My favorite A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET movie to my least favorite A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET movie list:

A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET
4 stars out of 4 stars

A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 3: DREAM WARRIORS
4 stars out of 4 stars

A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 4: THE DREAM MASTER
3 to 3 1/2 stars out 4 stars

THE NEW NIGHTMARE
3 to 3 1/2 stars out of 4 stars

FREDDY'S DEAD: THE FINAL NIGHTMARE
3 stars out of 4 stars

A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 5: THE DREAM CHILD
2 1/2 stars out of 4 stars

A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 2: FREDDY'S REVENGE
2 stars out of 4 stars

FREDDY VS. JASON
2 stars out of 4 stars

I love every entry in this series besides Freddys Dead, even grew fond of part 2 over the years, but I had to go with the original on this one, being that its my favorite movie ever, not just this series, it was also the first horror movie I ever watched as a kid.

A Nightmare On Elm Street
10/10

The first one but I was hard pressed between that one and Dream Warriors.
