John Carpenter's original Halloween will always be my favorite. The reasons are too numerous to mention, but here's a few: great cast, great story, all a build-up of suspense with minimal gore. Great soundtrack, fantastic editing, and not to mention masterful direction.

HALLOWEEN is by far the best movie but I voted for HALLOWEEN 2 because it's my fave to watch. I'm more likely to put that on than the original because it gets to the point quicker. It's easy to settle into because you know the score. Just chill out and watch. You are ready to watch the bodies pile up whilst being creeped out at the same time thanks to the wicked hospital setting!! :D

The original definately!

What I think made it work so well was that for the most part they kept him in the dark. Several scenes where the characters were going about their business and all you saw was Michael's mask in the darkness in the background. When they did show him in a day shot he was at a distance and not fully clear, like when JLC saw him standing by the car while looking out the classroom window.

I also thought Halloween 3 is extremely underrated. After watching it again I realized it's not really that bad of a movie.

Wow... I find it hard to believe that 'Halloween: Resurrection' has more votes than H5, H6, and H20. Not that I have a lot of love for any of those movies (although the Producer's Cut of H6 is one of the best Halloween sequels in my opinion), Resurrection was just a steaming pile of shit. I think a better question would have been, 'which was your favorite HalloweeN SEQUEL?'. As for me, it would have to be parts 2 and 4. 6 was pretty dam good, H20 ruined itself by not having LL Cool J get killed, and Resurrection completely lost my interest by the time Michael left that insane asylum. Hopefully Rob Zombie's version will land somewhere near the top of this list of favorite HalloweeN films.

I actually kind of liked Halloween III, as well. I read that orignally John Carpenter wanted each Halloween sequel to be a completey different, original movie with no continuity to the last. Obviously when Halloween III flopped, they had to bring back Michael Myers.
