So why hasn't there been a female president?

And why does it look like that's not going to happen in the near future?

I don't remember where I heard this reason, but I found it to be hilarious...

"Hillary Clinton can't be president. She'll menstrate all over the legislation." - SNL maybe? (help me out...)

But seriously, I think she will be a legit candidate in 2008 if Bush wins or 2016 if Kerry is 2 term. People respect her. I think a woman is more feasible than a minority. I do hope though that in my lifetime there is a minority president and a female one.

Good call ANavissi. Sadly enough, I don't think it will happen. People don't like change...

There was one in the running back in the 80's as I recall.......

It would be nice to see a second attempt on a female candidate in the running and probably take office in the future. Who knows...

Don't know about the US, but I doubt Italy will have a woman Prime Minister in the near future.
Why?
1- Men don't vote for women because a large portion of males here are very anti-feminist
2- Women themselves are reluctant to vote for women for I don't know what reason, they just trust a man more, which I think is ridiculous.

"Why hasn't there been a woman president? I'll tell you- three irrational days a month. What if there's a national emergency?"

Or, something like that, was the reason that Mr. Weir gave for no female prez's on Freaks & Geeks.

I think a chick president will be something that will come in time...I mean...women haven't been able to vote for 100 years yet

It's a very to happen. There just haven't been any strong candidates. Ferraro and Mondale got sunk by the Reagan Machine. I'm not sure if Hillary would ever run. She seems to content making buku bucks.

As much as I loathe her personality, I could actually imagine someone like Oprah going for it. (Someone outside of politics)

I've noticed that Hillarry and Bill haven't been bowing for Kerry lately. Maybe a Hillarry challenge in 2008 Democratic primaries is a possibility?

We have a woman president in Finland right now. If she wants to run for another season, she will win very easily. She's extremely popular.

I dig her quite a lot. She comes off as extremely intelligent and warm-hearted person, with balls. She is one of the few presidents I know who I admit right away to being much more intelligent than I am myself.

As a Western nation, I have no problem with a female president, I'd vote for Hillary Rodham myself.

My issue is that as an American president, our government policies tend to oversee many of the other Western, Eastern, African, and Asian nations. We are funding countries that are currently on thin ice with us as is, and try to do foreign policy by helping other nations be protected under our "Nuclear Halo".

What I mean by this, is that we are a highly advanced nation that is "trying to" democratize the world; like it or no. All investment and potential peace could be tipped over by these third world, Middle Eastern, Asian, and Islamic nations, not to mention others that strictly forbid women in leadership roles by way of their personal ethics or unbending religious beliefs. Islamic nations see the way Hillary Clinton operates, acts, talks, and dresses and view it as shameful.

Some of these nations are very behind and not "up to speed" with many other Western (and/or Asian/Middle Eastern/etc.) nations who view one another not so much as man/woman; but as human beings.

To cater to them is wrong, but in the infant stages of attempted 'globalization', it could sink the ship if we had a female president. I often wonder if Elizabeth Dole thought this, but I doubt it.

I would much more prefer a female vice-president at this time, take a baby step before the whole shittle bam.

I don't know. Women are bitches.. just joking. I wonder if we'll have a black male president first or a female president. Probably a white female president.

If a woman runs for president and her opponent is not someone who I care for, then yes, I will support her.

I mean, to me, gender/race doesn't matter. It's all about whether or not the person believes what I believe and I want to vote for them.

I'd love it if a woman were president of the US.
There would be no more wars..... just some very intense negotiations every 28 days.
