I saw this at my local used movies store....and it said Stephen King's fav film and is from the guy who did The Fly.....it looked creepy and has a the porn star Marylin Chambers in it...the story sounded cool and it had a pic of a 28 days later looking zombie on the back....anyways...it is only 6 bucks...so should I get it?

This is the only Cronenberg flick that I havent see, but now that theres a new dvd coming up Im defenetly going to check it out. Psychopath, if youve enjoyed Cronenbergs style of films, like The Fly, The Brood, Videodrome or Existense then Id defenetly recommend getting it.

Though it is early Cronenberg (I believe this was his second film) its still Cronenberg. The guy improved by leaps and bounds from film to film. If you see his first film Shivers and then see his third The Brood youll notice a big change in the quality of the filmaking. Shivers was amaturish in the technical department, though story wise it was excellent, as are most of Cronenbergs flicks.

Rabid was his second feature, so Im really really curious as to just how good it is.

I taped it off tv a long while ago (unedited) and I remember it being very very wierd. Can't really remember if I liked it or not so I think I'm going to find that tape and watch it again. I do remember it had a very low budget look to it though.

It is very good and definately worth $6. Although this will be the bare bones DVD, I suspect. They released a special edition only two weeks ago, crammed full of extra features.

That said, $6 is still a great price for the film alone.

^ she's not the lead with the...errr.. extra mouth, is she?

All said, this is my favorite Cronenberg flick. For six bucks, its a STEAL.. I plan on shooting a cashier in the head for the SE dvd coming out soon, though.

Damn, that is a steal. I imagine that it falls somewhere in between Shivers and The Brood in terms of quality. I've yet to see it, but I really, really need to.

Pure shit....sorry guys and gals who liked it...but I thought it was horrible....some pussy armpit snake killer thing and no explanation, bad acting, and good idea with people having somewhat rabies running around and the car going off the highway scene but they never are scary and they are just a waste....and thats it....this could of been so good...I took it back to the place and got hide and go shriek unrated on vhs for 1.50 and saved the rest of my money on a store credit for when something else comes along...bad bad movie....oh well....

I guess this proves Cronenberg isn’t for everyone. As if that wasn't evident already. Sorry you didn’t like it. For me it is one of the best low budget, ambitious, director defining efforts of the seventies. I paid 17 dollars for the special edition and I already had the movie. Worth every penny. The interview with Dave is informative with his trademark dry wit and sense of humor (He names a famous Chambers porn movie and says oh I haven’t seen that one yet). Rabid fans should pick it up.

From what i remember , this was sort of an art house , intellectual take on the zombie craze at the time , and it was excellent , i'm going to have to visit this little flick again . Now that i think of it , 28 Days Later may have been influenced by Rabid , because the people who get infected aren't the undead , they become just what the title says , Rabid , and start randomly attacking people , but i don't recall much action , it's like a sci fi drama maybe .
