I'm rereading GoF right now and this book is just filled with plot holes! I still love the book, but you can definitely tell J.K. Rowling had a deadline to turn in this book.
Here's a few things I noticed:
* This is actually from the third book, but I thought I could put it here: Why did Fred and George never notice Peter Pettigrew? Ron had Scabbers for a long time and they never noticed that there was a man in their brother's pocket?
* In GoF, when Harry gets his foot stuck in the trick step and drops the Maurader's Map and his egg, why didn't he just use the summoning spell to get them back? He had spent hours with Hermione practicing it, why not put it to some use?
* In that same scene when Snape picks it up, WHY DIDN'T HE NOTICE THAT BARTY CROUCH WAS RIGHT NEXT TO HIM?! That is one of the biggest plot holes in the entire book. Harry saw Mr. Crouch (aka Moody) in Snape's storeroom, so why didn't Snape realize that the map didn't say Alastor Moody, but Barty Crouch?
There's more (like Harry's parents coming out of Voldemort's wand in the wrong order. But this mistake has already been changed in later editions...)
