I recently saw this Edgar Allen Poe adaptation and I have to admit I was surprised at how good it was. I was excepting something cheesy, but what I got was a good story, excellent acting, a great gothic feel and atmosphere, and a memorable final shot. Even the obvious matte paintings looked great. The climax was a bit of a letdown, but watching Vincent Price's slow descent into madness was too much fun for that to matter.

I would like to see this since I'm a fan of Vincent Price. I've seen the 90s Full Moon version and thought that was good.

i really like both films, as in all his films Price is excellent and it has a lot of great sets and scenes
the 90s version was also great, excellent acting, great sets and some kool gore

I too enjoyed both versions but for me the version with Price was just a little better.

Corman’s The Pit and the Pendulum is excellent! Vincent Price plays the part perfectly as with Steele. The final shot is chilling along with great sets. John Kerr is a little stiff but that can be overlooked. The rare prologue with Luana Anders should have been left in the movie. Betrayal cuts both ways indeed.

This is in my opinion one of the greatest horror films of all time. And the castle shots from outside have been used SO many times by Roger Corman in other movies. Price, Barbara Steele, Richard Matheson scripted, Corman directed, you cannot go wrong.
