I think it's Apocalypse Now!
Tim Burton comes to mind.....Edward Scissorhands.
Peter Jackson's Heavenly Creatures is also a superior example.

The Cell is a pure trip. The first scene of Robin William's heaven, all done in Van Gough's style, in What Dreams May Come is very cool too.

I dunno, I don't think Heavenly Creatures was a good movie at all.

I'm basing this only on trailers and pictures but.....
I'd have to say Kubrick's BARRY LYNDON. Kubrick purposely made each shot seem like a painting in the style of the period of the setting of the movie. The whole thing really just seems like a bunch of paintings.

DISNEY'S FANTASIA
2001 A SPACE ODYSSEY
SHREK

Punch Drunk Love has some very artistic elements to it, but I also think 2001 gets the prize.

When I think "artistic", I think of films by the auteur types: Kubrick, Tarkovsky, Bergman, Kurosawa, etc.
