many seem to want/think akkad can re-cast hartnett out of the character of John Tate since Hartnett doesn't want in the series anymore...so simple question...pick whom you would pick, to be the new John Tate, plain and simple.

i think anybody could play him, Josh Hartnett is nothing special and easily replacable.

Is Hartnett out for sure? If he is, it's not a big loss. He can be easily replaced.

No one. Hartnett or nobody. It's his role. The last time a major character was re-cast we got the Jamie Lloyd fiasco.

you just may have a point, I am like you with alot of times ANT, I don't dig recasts myself, it just is the fact that alot of people on here seem to be keen on replacing him just to have a steady character return or such, or whatever reason it may be, so I was wondering whom they would pick to replace him.

I don't know what actor I'd have replace John Tate. It's a shame too, because Josh Hartnett was pretty good in the role. My suggestion: For recasting the role, why don't the filmmakers just set up a actor shoot in LA or somewhere and give several young men the chance to read the lines and see who stacks up best and looks best for character. You know, casting the old-fashioned way. Not just picking the teener bopper guy of the month. I think Jamie Lee Curtis was chosen for the part of Laurie this way. She wasn't famous or well known by Hollywood until "Halloween" hit in 1978.

yeah, the easiest way would be him in his older days, in the 30s-50s, its much easier to replace tommy doyle of 6 years old to tommy doyle of his late twenties in part 6, then this scenario, it truly is a hard thing...

You could replace him...but it would suck. I can never get used to different actors playing the same character. Look at NICK STAHL playing John Connor in TERMINATOR 3 - without LINDA HAMILTON as well, it just didn't feel like a Terminator movie to me as much as the previous installments. They would be better off with a new story line.

yeah indeed they can do so many intelligent things that they never likely will...

like i said, the only time I could picture it going through smooth is if hartnett played the role 10-15 years ago, and they could replace him with a later actor, ala the tommy doyle transistions.

Im with ANTBond. It's Hartnett's role. Even though I would much rather see a re-cast than more pointless victims (ala Resurrection). However, everyone is saying that Hartnett will never come back. I know it's doubtful, but I don't think he's ever actually stated that he will never come back.

i don't remember him exactly saying he wouldn't come back, but I do remember reading somewhere that he said something along the lines of "My agent picked H20 out for me, I don't even like horror movies and didn't want to do it, but my agent said it would help me out, so I did it"

something along them lines, don't remember where...

Money Talks! I'd get him back then kill his ass off quick so they don't have to pay him too much...

OR -- they could get Ashton Kutcher -- LMAO!!!

I don't thing anyone knows what new actor should portray John Tate. Neither do I. A lot of us just want Josh Hartnett to reprise the role, but it is a high probability that he won't come back. I don't know who should portray John Tate in the next "Halloween" - given that Moustapha Akkad is still keeping up with the storyline and knows he has to follow up with Michael Myers going after his nephew. Of all things, the next H-film will be at least 5 or so after years after H20, so it is safe to say that Johnny would have aged a bit. And if Josh Hartnett doesn't come back, then I think filmmakers should NOT pick the star of the month and go out doing casting sessions around the country and pick out a nobody off the streets - you know, what filmmakers used to do. That was how Jamie Lee got her chance at film.

Ok, If I had to choose somebody right now, I'd choose JAMES MARSDEN. I thought he was good in DISTURBING BEHAVIOUR.

I say they gank Hartnett and throw a pillowcase over his head and toss him into a van, drive him to the set, throw his ass out and say "Run motherfucker."

If they ever decided to bring back the John Tate character, which I doubt they would now, I wouldn't care much who they would recast him with. Hartnett was a nothing character in a nothing movie as far as I'm concerned. I suppose if they did recast him as an older character in his 40's I would probably recommend... Andras Jones? Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

I've recently began thinking Jensen Ackles from Supernatural could portray a John Tate these days...and for them "cool teeny boppers" they'd likely drool since hes a rather big name among teens and such...but it wouldn't bother me because hes not too bad of an actor.
