I'm not exactly sure what the 'Mondo Cane' series is either. I THINK its bizaar footage from foreign countries involving rituals and stuff. I'm not sure though....Some people classify stuff like Traces of Death, Faces of Death, Death Scenes, Faces of Gore and etc in the 'Mondo' catorgory as well. And those are real life (well on most of them its fake) gore. I saw a couple of those when I was younger just for the "shock" value. Now I want nothing to do with them. Ah well.

These were the first "real" exploitation flicks, but they were also legitimate documentaries. I recall R&J showing interest in the Mondo Cane collection. Perhaps he can shed some more light on it.

Apparently it's focused on the cultural differences between two different (or more) societies. The director's idea, I think, was to show what some countries think is normal and put it where people would find this to be taboo.

There is also some stuff about frogs that dwell in trees. It was part of what influenced the Toxic Avenger for Lloyd Kaufman (read "All I Need To Know About Filmmaking I learned From the Toxic Avenger").

I agree with everything said. iId just like to add that shocking content-wise they resemble episodes of Ripley's Believe it or Not!

hey i heard that the film makers got put on trial for the first one but got off......is this true or was i mis-informed?.......but after reading that (i read that on a reveiw for Cannibal Holocaust) i searched these movies up on IMDb and i beleive that they are classified as Documentaries...and i think they are on strange rituals and stuff like MrGreen17 said....
