Thanks for the heads up, SkyNet

This film really shows that Stephen King has more depth as a writer than the general public really want to give him credit for.

I'm glad I waited on this one, but I'll be picking the 10th anniversary edition for sure.

I guess I'll need to see the movie, but I dont think that Art is all that great. I like the original cover better. It might change when I see it.

The Shawshank Redemption? Hmm...never heard of it.

;)

I have mixed feelings about the artwork, but of course, nothing will stop me from buying that one the second it hits stores.

actually, to respond to my own post sorta too, i don't like teh artwork as much by itself (still like it though), but with the limited edition version with the border and everything, i love it! i dunno, the artwork with that cool metallic looking siding just looks amazing for me heh...

Yeah, I can see what you mean, but I'm not sure I'll be buying that one. I already have the soundtrack, and although the book looks cool and I do want the definitive edition, for $18 more it hardly seems like a bargain.

I'm not sure I like this new trend of the soundtrack coming with the disc (like in Mystic River). I love movie scores, but I'm worried if they consider Shawshank a 2-disc SE because the soundtrack is the second disc, that will reduce the amount of extras in 2-Disc SEs in the future. Hope not...

yeah sometimes i'm not too sure i like it either, especially when they won't come out with just a 2 disc edition minus the soundtrack sometimes. this would annoy me for certain movies (ex: Mystic River) because I don't even like particularly like the score there anyway and i don't like the snapper case crappy version i'd otherwise have to get. (luckily, i'm not a huge fan of the movie)

I think this trend started with Almost Famous's brilliant idea to have the Stillwater bootleg cd included heh. (The Pianist also did it but again, you could get the 2 disc version by itself as well)

The thing to keep in mind for this release is though that they are releasing the 2 disc set by itself without the soundtrack and book for anyone who wants it so basically you get the same features if you want.

The other thing is that I absolutely LOVE Thomas Newman and his scores and what's more, I don't have the soundtrack for Shawshank yet so this is a perfect buy for me. The amazing looking case just tops it all off.

Oh, and the impression i got from your post was that you thought the soundtrack was the second disc? Just to clarify in case, the dvd release is going to have two discs of features + the movie, and an extra cd in the limited edition which is the soundtrack. So they aren't taking away any features from it, they're just adding an extra disc, just like Almost Famous, The Pianist, and Mystic River.

Ok, I misunderstood. Well, that's very good news. I've only been waiting for this DVD set for about five years, so I guess I can wait a few more months...
