View Full Version : Would YOU Fight?

Let's just say we're low on men, and they're taking 17 and 18 year olds (17 year olds are close to being legal anyway)...
If you were asked today if you would serve your country to fight in the war in Iraq, since we are low on men, would you? Would you risk it all to serve the United States? Or would you stay home and continue your 9-5 work and stay with your family and friends?

I love this country, but would I take a bullet in the back of the head for it? No. Sorry, can't do it, especially with something as unjust as this war we're currently involved in.
For the people that can, good for you, I'm happy we have citizens willing to do that, but I just really can't.
Literally. I'd end up going nuts and dropping bombs all over the place.

Never. I guess I'm too much of a coward when it comes to war, plus I couldn't stand getting off my ass 5:30 every morning to do 60 push-ups.

Depends on the war. With some, maybe, but I'd really have to think about it. With the current war, no, because I disagree with it. If possible, I'd register as a concientious objector. Although, I'm an only child, and the only one in my generation in my family with my last name, so if what I've heard is true, I can't be put on the front lines.

If I remember on Snopes correctly, an only child can be put on the front line.
In the case of a just war against a big threat (like WWII): you bet your ass I'd fight.
In the case of something like Vietnam or this war: Mexico, here I come! (Appearantly Canada doesn't accept fleers anymore)

I don't plan on entering the military voluntarily, but if there ever was a draft, I surely would NOT dodge it.

From a 35 yr. old lady... if I were a boy of 18 and I was asked to fight in the war in Iraq... no, I would not fight. I don't ever, and have never, fought for something I didn't believe in. It goes against all my grain.

I'm finally too old to be drafted. I also wouldn't have passed any kind of physical that would require to do anything beyond walking from the couch to the refriderator and back with a cool beverage and a bag of chips.
That being said if I was of age and in shape I probably would go if drafted. It'd be a tough decision, but in the end it is the right thing to do.

Nope. Call me spineless or apathetic, but I most certainly would not go to war. Fortunately, I'm disabled (I never thought it would work in my favor), but even if I weren't, I would do everything in my power to dodge the draft. I just don't want to. It's as simple as that, and I wouldn't allow anyone to force me to go.

No fucking way. I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I had to kill someone.

If I was drafted, I don't know what I'd do. On one hand, I could go to Mexico to dodge it. But since I'm graduating next year from high school and I have plans and everything. I don't wanna jeopardize them by leaving. On the other hand, they'd be jeopardized anyways since I'd be in Iraq or somewhere else. I don't agree with this war, and to be forced to fight for something like this isn't something I wanna do. I may be a pussy, but I'd be an alive pussy rather than a dead pussy. If I could register as a conscenious (sp?) objector, and not have to go, I'd do that, but in all, if I couldn't do that, I'd dodge.

I would fight, given the right situation.
But for the war in Iraq. Fuck no, not in a million years. This entire war was brought on by a giant lie. There is NO reason for us to be there, and there is NO reason why I would fight in that situation.

Question: how bad do your eyes need to be before you are too blind to be out there?
Nope. I don't care what the war is, I'm your basic coward. What's more, I don't think I'd be much good at it. There are plenty of strong willed men in America who want the opportunity to fight, I'll let them have the "glory".

If I was a guy and I was drafted, I would not be able to do it. Especially if it was for the war in Iraq. As someone said above, I just wouldn't be able to live with myself if I had murdered someone....
I've got a question though, what health conditions can make one unable to be drafted?

I would, if forced to. Many of my family members didn't agree with certain wars they were fighting, but they answered their draft anyway. They felt they had to serve their country, when called on, and if I was drafted I would too, to the best of my ability.
I don't agree with the war America is fighting, but I'll do what my country asks of me. Period.

If my country needed me, I'd absolutely do it. I love my country and would be proud to defend it. Plus considering I'm sort of in the Army right now, it's a very good chance I'll be participating in a war sooner or later.

Personally, I don't understand why patriotism is such a commendable quality or why people who have fought in wars are held in such high regard. But that's just me.

I've never been put in the position, but I've always believed that if someone is shooting at me, I wouldn't find it that hard to raise my gun and start returning fire.

Exactly...don't you think a large number of people drafted and hell even a lot of volunteers felt they couldn't kill someone until they faced with someone shooting at them first?
I was able to get my grandfather who served in WWII and a friend of his who fought in the Korean war come in to talk to my class when I was student teaching. A student asked them the same question and they both said you don't even think about it. You have bullets coming at you you are going to shoot back. And these two old guys are the most laid back mellow people you ever want to meet.
If I were drafted and young enough, I'd go and do the job they asked of me. I wouldn't be very supportive of a draft, though.

I would if my family was being threatened. I don't think I'd have a problem kiling anyone. My psychological profile suggests it. Anyways, I sure as hell wouldn't fight, let alone die, for a blind cause.

I'm a pretty laid back person. I avoid confrontation, and have never been in a fistfight, at least not since 6th grade. I'm basically a chickenshit.
But if somebody's shooting at me, they'll get it back, and I'll hope I'm at least a slightly better aim.

I would never fight. I am completely against war, period. I understand a military is necessary and I respect the people who serve for the country, but I just couldn't personally do it. I can't even kill a bug in my house, let alone blow off another person's head. I would never enlist in the army and if I were ever drafted, I would flee.
I'm sorry if this pisses some people off but it's my honest response.

Even though I have Tourettes Syndrome and I can't run because of a knee injury I'd still fight in the war (for the Canadian military). I probably wouldn't be sent to war because of my two afflictions so I would work at a base making weapons.
