ok am i the only person who am sick of tired of being in movie related or oriented conversations and you know sooo much more than everyone else, and all you do is correct their stupid mistakes, i work at a theatre and people always are stupid come try to talk to me about movies and they're opinions are gay, telling me why this movie is so great and its one of the best, when the movies like a 5/10
blow it out your ass i am better than you accept it and i know more than you stupid movie goers that love crap like summer blockbusters and other stupid popular stuff

whos with me on this one!

I kinda know what you mean. I'm like that with most of my friends. Every time we get into a conversation they always look at me, waiting for some kind of reply to their dumbass conclusions (which really are dumbass conclusions). One time they all ended a conversation about movies with "So that's the problem with movies these days - none of them are realistic anymore." That made me sooooooo mad. I didn't retort because the only way I could've been able to express myself was to knock the guy on his ass. And I couldn't do that 'cause he's my friend. :)
However he has no problem with punching me rather hard for changing a radio station from some 60's bullshit to Nirvana...but that's a whole different rant all together.

On the other hand...eh. Let the babies have their bottles. Let them wallow in their movie-ignorant puddles. You're most likely not gonna be able to convert any of these people unless they're really interested in doing so, so just nod, smile, play along. If they ask you a question, answer it like you normally would. If they don't like your opinion, tell 'em to piss off and that they probably weren't interested in your opinion anyway. I stopped giving my opinion to my friends, mainly because their minds are too small to comprehend the way I look at movies, and it scares them so they laugh, corner me, etc.

You're being an elitist. It doesn't make someone gay because they like a certain film.

I can see your point on correcting people's mistakes when talking about film though. I do it a lot with my mom.

I don't agree with this rant. At all.

Why? Saruman basically nailed it on the head. You're being an elitist. What you have to remember is that not everyone is a Schmoe who's primary interests are cinema.

However, it's a different story if a person lambasted you for YOUR opinion when you've done nothing like that to them. Now THAT pisses me off.

Wow...okay, here's the problem with a thread like this: you aren't smarter than everyone. No, I do not agree with you. If someone likes a movie that is "mainstream garbage" that's fine. I went through your posts and you don't have the most sophisticated list of favorite movies, either. I highly doubt you've viewed the complete works of such directors as Kurosawa, Leone, Bergman, Fellini, etc. judging by the threads you post in and the movies lists you've assembled. However, I'm not opening a thread talking about how I'm better than you because I have seen 8 1/2 and Wild Strawberries and thus, am better and more intelligent than you. Most of the movies you've selected as favorites are either classics most everyone has seen from the 70's and 80's (Raging Bull, The Godfather) or 90's flicks that, again, most everyone likes (Reservoir Dogs, True Romance). So no, it's threads like this that make me hate movie boards. You're not smarter than everyone, just the same as you're not dumber. You just have different tastes.

WHAT THE HELL?

Someone making an OPINION that YOU don't like is GAAAY?!?!?!

To top that I HATE the word GAY being used as a BLING BLING I am sooooo cool SLANG Expression.

But then again that just MY OPINION.

If the word MUST be used pack it with something that makes 200% sense I would definately agree with.

Instead of isuing a long-winded reply about just how wrong this rant is, I'll just say I agree with everyone else. You are no better than anyone else just because you like certain movies and they like other movies. That's it. get over it and move on.

If you have an interest in cinema, you come here and talk to people with the same common bond in order to have conversations with them. You can expect most to have a general knowledge of film.

The same can't be said for the rest of the world, as they may be more or less interested and formulate opinions based on what they know about movies.

Sorry, DareDevil, not with you on this one.

Can't agree with that rant at all for the reasons stated above. We all have different tastes, we're all of different opinions. If you really feel your taste makes your smarter than everyone else, well, thats your problem and your mistake.

Looks like you're on your own bucko.

Amen, Syxxpac. And the GAY reference is the icing. I don't want to discourage other's opinions, but come on, be respectful.

Honestly, I think making threads like this merits a banning. This is EXACTLY the type of attitude that is discouraged on the JoBlo forums, just look at the rules.

Trust me, you get lots of money. Why do you think I've been on DVD spending sprees over the past few months?

Uh... shit, did I really just say that? Where's that damn MiB Neuralyser when you need it? ;)

It's especially annoying if someone talks to you like your an idiot, and you were being sarcastic, or just goofing off - then they were the ones who missed it, and they act superior.

OK ha-ha I don’t think most people picked up on the purpose of my post, I didn’t say I was smarter than you schmoes, cause to be honest I am not better than all the schmoes, a lot of them, but not all, I think there’s around 4 or 5 that might be close to me, ok see that’s sarcasm.

My point of my thread I started when I was drunk haha was that the average movie goer, someone who is not a movie buff at all and doesn’t know much about films, though still acts like they know so much when it’s clear they don’t, it annoys me and I see a lot of people like this at work.

beastieben21 your post hurt my feelings the most, I’ve know gone through 6 boxes of Kleenex’s since I 1st read it.

nope I've never seen any Akira Kurosawa films, if when you say Leone you mean Sergio Leone the writer then I've seen Ben Hur, Once Upon a Time in America. Don't know what you mean by Bergman I had to look that one up and the 2 directors/writers I found were TV directors, so I quit looking. And I have seen a big chunk of Federico Fellini's movies when I was traveling through Europe. But I don’t know what those people have to do with my personal opinion.

But I got to give you credit for caring so much you looked up previous posts of mine, well I don’t really post on those lists I guess you found that out, I posted on what like 2 or 3?? And yes I love Raging Bull and True Romance, and those are popular movies with schmoes but not with your average person on the street, god your average person has never even heard of True Romance. And man i'm sure I can post movies and directors I’ve seen and you haven't, does that make me more right than you, according to you it does.

I'm not here to argue, the only point I was trying to make, and unsuccessfully did was I am annoyed by people who think they know a lot about movies but don't, I never at one point meant schmoes, that’s why I am on these boards other people who know movies and can have good conversations.

That opinion goes two ways, DD. There is no place for elitism here. Respect the boards and the people who use them.

I wasn't trying to hurt your feelings and if I did I sincerely apologize. It's just an attitude that I hate to see run rampant on the boards. Most people aren't movie buffs, and because of this, are prone to mistakes. It doesn't mean you're smarter OR stupider than them, just have different interests. I apologize for criticizing your tastes in film, but it was mainly to make a point about how someone could do the exact same to you, despite the fact that you both can equally love the medium of film.

Well one of the things worng withthe world today is that many poeple judge movies by their appearcne eg hwo many times fuck is said or their voilence.

I know many parents that are like this and tell them "but didnt you teach us not to dudge books by their covers". People have complained to me about the swearing and violence in sopranos, i explain to them why its there and they shuttup. Very similar with Battle Royale, few horror flicks and many other movies.

They always end up liking whatever it was after i expalined the whole reason etc to them aswell. haha.

I cant remember if thats on topic, but it seems close enough so i thought id share it.

Ah, so just because it wasn't aimed at the schmoes makes it ok to be arrogant and feel smugly superior?

I totally see where you are coming from there

Yeah, I'm feeling less sarcastic right now, and am wondering if I can offer some words for you DareDevil.

Whenever you elevate yourself onto a pedastal, you're always going to become a target for stone throwing. I think none of us schmoes want to be elevated onto the pedistal either.

There is no need to feel embarrassed, or try and tell us all that we misunderstood you, or what not. That is the glory in being among like-minded individuals: You won't be judged. What I, and others, feel you are ultimately doing is passing judgement onto others.

That's all fine and well - lord knows many of us do it. It's just when you assert your judgements that it turns evil.

Like Quoth said, there isn't much room to misunderstand that you are demeaning others. In your first post you managed to say something that could be taken as insult to anyone who likes movies such as Pirates of the Carrabean (summer blockbuster).

Instead of making things so "us and them" maybe you should focus more on what exactly these stupid things are instead of resorting to "dumbed down" words like "stupid" and "gay".

I, for one, am interested in hearing what happens at Blockbuster, and what movie you think is a 5/10 is liked by others.

Just some notes.....

Make the topic less about you and more about what exactly is happening to make you get this way. If you're lucky, you'll probably look around and see how many people you would normally think are stupid really aren't.

Seeing as I like Summer Blockbusters, I'd love to have an opportunity to discuss our different tastes in movies.
