From Fangoria.com...

Over at the Mobius Home Video Forums, it was reported that character actor George “Buck” Flower died in his sleep the night of June 18 at age 66. Flower was a familiar face in the films of John Carpenter, appearing in THE FOG, ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK, STARMAN, THEY LIVE, VILLAGE OF THE DAMNED and the Showtime anthology movie BODY BAGS (pictured); he also acted in Stan Winston’s PUMPKINHEAD, William Lustig’s MANIAC COP, Robert Kurtzman’s WISHMASTER, Tobe Hooper’s SPONTANEOUS COMBUSTION, Anthony Hickox’s SUNDOWN and WAXWORK II, CHEERLEADER CAMP (out August 3 on DVD from Anchor Bay), Bill Rebane’s THE ALPHA INCIDENT and THE CAPTURE OF BIGFOOT, the first two ILSA movies, SKEETER, 976-EVIL 2 and many others. His last appearance was in Jay Andrews/Jim Wynorski’s CURSE OF THE KOMODO. Flower also wrote or co-wrote numerous B-features, including 1976’s DRIVE-IN MASSACRE, worked as a producer on 1987’s THE NIGHT STALKER (in which he also acted) and several more and served in various other creative/production capacities on a number of films.

Flower played the best bum/redneck that anyone could ever play. My favorite role of his would probably be the grizzled Mr. Wallace in Pumpkinhead. An underrated scream king if there ever was one.

Let's not forget he was also the parkbench bum in Back to the Future ("crazy drunk driver"). That sucks.

I been depressed enough as it is these days and now this!
Say it isnt so!!! I loved this guy...a major fixture in this genre if there ever was one, I am very sadden to hear this. I can remember seeing him in numerous films and T.V. appearences!

But lets try to show a little more respect, lets stop making reference to him as the "Guy who played a bum"...granted type casting is a bitch. He was a wonderful character actor and from what I have heard a sweet man. If you have "Wishmaster" check out the directors commentary track, he says that when Buck treid out for his part as the BUM (Ouch!) He took out his teeth and had the entire crew in stitches, goofing around and was hired on the spot!

I took the liberty of checking out a couple of DVD's here and want to reflect on some funny and memorable moments from George Buck flowers career.

In Escape From New York, he's the guy getting beat up in the corner.
Then snake spins him around and BUCK says: I'm the president alright..I knew when I found this I was president...

One of the funniest scenes that good ole' Buck had was in Wishmaster. He confronts Reggie Bannister (Who is playing a pharmacist) the scene plays outside the drug store as follows....

Bannister: Look how many times I gotta tell ya?

Buck: Ya left customers in there, thats not a good way to run a business!

Bannister: Dont tell me how to run my business...You're a FUCKING BUM!!!

Buck: Well you dont tell me how to run my life, you're a FUCKING PRICK!!! I'll talk to anyone I want to...you dont own this sidewalk!

Bannister:You wanna know something? I do own this FUCKING SIDE WALK...ya wanna know why? Because I pay FUCKING TAXES!!!

Buck: FUCK YOU!!

Banister: NO! FUCK YOU!!!

Buck: I hope you DIE you SACK OF SHIT! I hope you DIE and I hope you float down the gutter SO I CAN FUCKIN PISS ON YA! BALD HEADED BABOON! YA after birth from a CHINESE GANGBANGER!

That scene never failed to get a big laugh...Buck was funny as hell along side Reggie,It always cracked me up!

A sad loss to be certain, that and the fact that he was only 66...too soon to go!
Rest in peace Buck hopefully you are in a better place...My condolences to his family.

Here is to an unsung hero of cinema,
the Character Actor Mr. George "Buck" Flower, you will be missed!

I remember Flowers best in THE FOG...his great one-liner: "Hey, there's a fog bank out there!"
